Recently signed to Steve Vai’s Favored Nations label, Andy Timmons, with his latest effort, Resolution, continues to smoke our sense of hearing with guitar that has the right stuff to be legendary. Fans of guitar rock, especially the styles used in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s will find a lot to enjoy on Resolution, the new album from the Andy Timmons Band. Comprised of a power trio, the 3 make music like you remember from the likes of Robin Trower, Rick Derringer, and other guitar-dominated bands from the era named.
Andy Timmons got his start with Danger Danger and ran with that band for several years before doing solo work and session bits with artists too numerous to mention. But with a guitar like that which Andy Timmons plays, it is a wonder that he isn’t more highly sought after. The Andy Timmons Band has released a small batch of albums and is no stranger to producing great albums (he certainly knows how). On Resolution, there is not only the stunningly fine guitar playing, but also flavours of many of the guitar greats running through the instrumental music. At times, there’s a hint of Eddie Van Halen along with other detections of great legends. Regardless of how many connections you make, you’ll end up with one fact; Andy Timmons is his own man.
Resolution offers as many winds and curves that Timmons’ guitar playing will yield up and that’s a lot of music, my friends. I’ve a feeling that you’re going to like Andy Timmons unless you’re asking me where I’ve been.
