04/29/2003 8:00p PT Duane Leyva - Reviewer Metal legend Michael Kiske, formally of Helloween debuts with this fine assembly of musicians named Supared, an epiphany of pure talent both vocally and musically. If you’re a old Helloween fan this album just might not fit your expectation level but if you’re a Michael Kiske fan this is a must have album. Earlier in Michael Kiske career with Helloween, you could hear his vocal endowment placing him the league of a Bruce Dickerson (Iron Maiden) or a Geoff Tate (Queensrÿche). But now with his latest venture, Supared, he just may have found himself a new home, separating himself from his previous associations with various projects that he has been involved with. On all of the tracks on this album, Michael Kiske's vocal range exceeds more that I ever could have imagined. His voice is haunting as well as tantalizing with a widely harmonizing range. From the first track to the last, Kliske is on his game. The first track, "Reconsider" just may be their most promising song that can be played on most popular Rock and Alternative radio stations. On this great album, Sandro Giamietro, who plays lead guitars along with Aldo Harms on bass guitar, play well mannered and tight licks on their axes. So if you're looking for these German gents to shred on guitars you have come to the wrong place. These guys are highly established musicians who play right according to their pocket. The track, "Can I Know Now" clearly illustrates that with Aldo Harms' double bass and heart dumping drum set, this is a killer song. The fifth track, "Freak Away", Michael Kiske once again mesmorizes me with his vocal range. Along with the well controlled temple manner that the rest of the band maintain, almost holding back but as the song progresses, just rip in to it. The sixth cut, "Ride On", Micheal Kiske is clearly at his best both vocally and lyrically. This is one sweet song. The whole band in general must be applauded for this song.. a very masterful piece of work. All in all, I felt the album by Supared is a album that can grow on you mainly due to the talent factor assembled and the expert collaboration. Some may say that Supared is a genre of music already touched upon by various Rock bands. I strongly disagree with those critics due to the fact that those bands don’t exist any more and they clearly don’t have the talent that Supared has. Hats off to Sanctuary Records and Supared on their fine debut album release. Copyright © 2002-2003 Matthew Rowe. All rights reserved. |
