Lara St. John
re: Bach

Odyssey Records is the coolest of contemporary labels where classical performers are concerned.  Their catalog represents up-to-date talents that are outside the box of traditional classical yet stylish enough to appeal to crossover audiences.

Lara St John is a violinist who uses her instrument to play Bach in a style that incorporates re-interpretations using various influences.  Influences such as jazz and world music as heard on the first tune found on St. John’s album, “Goldberg2”, an exotic tune that merges in St. John's oozingly sexy and tempestuous violin with rhythms.  You’ll hear jazzy flutes, African vocals, lots of percussion, flirtatious country, and, of course, always Lara St. John’s evocative and emotion-grabbing violin within the core of every tune.

The beauty of this album is found within the 15 tunes contained on it, everyone as different a presentation as the one before it.  Her reflection of Bach and his music is aptly distributed and in high praise of Bach’s rapturous pieces. Re-creation is the key to St. John's re: Bach. On "Largo", the song starts with aching violin while dance rhythms soon work their way in. On every tune, Lara St. John's unique touch spreads a cloud of appreciation as you immerse within the oceans of the sphere of music she has enhanced.

To hear re: Bach is to hear an engaging update on Bach's timeless work. St. John has folded Bach's essence into each tune effectively. You'll be entranced.

Let’s all face the music; God created the violin immediately after his famed 6 days of creation.  There may not be an instrument that can truly capture human emotion and convey it as successfully and as emotionally satisfying as the violin.  As long as we have violinists the quality of Lara St. John, we’ll always be in the presence of
God.
