Salem Hill
Be

Even when the wordplay gets a little thick and heavy, one thing remains true about Salem Hill and their latest release “Be”. They know their rock. They shift from disturbing calliope balladry to full-on power chords to stacked harmonies with a confident ease I haven’t heard since Jellyfish.

Big highlights of the disc include the hard rock “The Great Stereopticon” with a chorus asking, “The spark He gave you, never a fire... The years of becoming, when will you be?” or, in essence, “when will you finally grow up?”, “Nowhere Is Home” with its loping singalong rhythm and the thoughtfully arch “Love Won’t Save The World”. Salem Hill deserves to graduate to a larger audience for just one all-important reason – once the disc starts, you may not want to stop it, and that’s a rare quality to be found in modern music.
