The Reunion Show - Kill Your Television Reviewed by Matt Rowe on October 25, 2002 There’s a New Rock Revolution and its being delivered by The Reunion Show with their “Kill Your Television” release on Victory Records. And I’m gonna tell ya, Reunion Show is the punk band of the year. But punk isn’t a fair assessment for these guys. They have reached into every bag and put styles together, shaken and stirred, to create what is, quite frankly, a hot mix of some of the coolest rock that you’ll hear this year. They bring a blend of smart lyrics, ear catching musicality, and a nerd like coolness not felt since the Feelies came into our stereos back in 1980 with "Crazy Rhythms". Reunion Show is a hopped up Cheap Trick; cooler than Weezer, and smokier than early E Costello. With eleven pop-punk tunes, TRS splashes the proverbial musical waters with a very big rock. With their brand of humour, this is a band that understands the fun of making good music without taking themselves too seriously. Content to create track after track of solid tunes that are at once danceable and leaving lingering sounds wafting in an out of your memory, "Kill Your Television" succeeds where so many work so hard to achieve and never acquire. Excellent vocals, hot rhythm section, workingman's guitars make up the band that formed in 2000 and whose chemistry allowed them to create a fresh and enduring album. Produced by star producer, Nick Raskulinecz who has worked with the likes of Foo Fighters and Jimmy Eat World, "Kill Your Television" is, on a scale from one to awesome, pretty great. DISC The production values on this disc are top notch. Great attention is paid to the mix of instruments and the vocals to provide a clean recording. The two channel mix show a care for presentation of the material providing exciting music without a wall of sound so common with punk. PACKAGING Well done insert that offers full lyrics and extensive liner notes interestingly framing a set of photos that show the instruments of the band. The booklet itself is 10 pages that is a single sheet folded 4 times. This set works. THE FINAL SAY This is a fresh recording from an exciting band that is going places. Make no mistake about that. Strong melodic pop with definite punk undertones, interesting lyrics, and great musicianship is a good formula for must buy music. Victory Records hits the bell yet again.
