Rolling Stone Magazine - “Do you have a picture of “when I’m 64?”
Lennon - “No, no. I hope we’re a nice old couple living off the coast of Ireland or something like that, looking at our scrapbook of madness.”
I have been meaning to bring this incredible set your attention, especially to those who may have hesitated in purchasing it or have – gasp- ignored it for whatever reason, or even to those of you who did not know that it existed. This collection of songs found on the CD release of Lennon Legend, a ‘best of’ that saw release some years back have been provided video accompaniment. Some of these have been seen before like “Imagine” while others are new like the completed “(Just Like) Starting Over,” a hauntingly extraordinary and imaginative video that will be repeated over and over on your telly.
There are 20 songs serviced here, making this DVD the perfect companion to the CD, but even more so, it is a memorable experience that will grace your shelf. To add to the set are a collection of extras that include the Anthology Version of “Working Class Hero” and acts as a short documentary of Lennon’s life; an Old Grey Whistle Test performance of “Slippin’ & Slidin’”, the last live performance of “Imagine”; a never before released excerpt from Film #6, a John & Yoko film feature; and an audio instrumental version of “Imagine” with picture gallery. As an easter egg, if you stay on the main menu, you see animated line drawings of John Lennon after about 30 seconds.
The audio choices are DTS 5.1, Dolby 5.1, and Dolby Stereo with the video being full screen. Many of the audio portions of new stereo remixes with a few being remastered stereo. The entire DVD flows smoothly from beginning to end and is a choice pickup.
