11/25/2002 7:30p PT Duane Leyva - Reviewer London, Ontario's very own Kittie, turns it up another notch with Safe EP. In the wake of their previous album, "Oracle", Kittie returns with five songs that were recorded live at The House of Blues in Anaheim, CA as well as two different versions of the song called Safe. This all woman trio clearly illustrate their fine musical attributes both musically and lyrically with a strong push toward audience enjoyment. And it’s no wonder many big label bands have asked Kittie to join with them on a tour. Their obvious live skills rocks the house. While listening to this particular album from Kittie, I was clearly mesmerized by the vocals of Morgan Lander and the range she was able to peak at. Hearing songs like "In Winter" live only signifies the clear talent that this band has. Other songs such as "No Name" and "What I Always Wanted" showcase what this band is capable of in a live environment when the audience is fevered and ready for serious rock n roll. Usually, when bands record live material, you don’t always get what you expect. Sometime the notes get hit, sometimes they don’t. Not so with Kittie. With "Safe", you're given more than what you expected. It leaves you pleading for more, almost like a encore. Also available on this album is a remixed cut of the title track ,"Safe" done by Sascha of KMFDM, previously from "Oracle". This makes this disc a must for Kittie fans. You also get the original radio version of "Safe". I personally enjoyed both cuts but lean toward the EP version due to their fiery originality. I was generally very pleased with this album by Kittie, which also features live footage from their shows in LA at the Whisky A Go Go. Kittie, as a band, is resetting the standards for all women's bands. No more are we just viewing the Bad Girls of Rock and Roll but are witnessing well established musicians who can make timeless music. Great job, Ladies. Copyright © 2002 Matthew Rowe.
