Dead To Fall - Everything I Touch Falls To Pieces Reviewed by Matt Rowe on September 3, 2002 Dead To Fall, a Chicago hardcore metal band, have produced a thunderous, yet melodic set of songs. Surprisingly, the songs show a strong musical effort with damn good talent behind the instruments. The band's new effort is an exercise in the pain of fallible life and the disgust of misplaced affections. The growling vocals of Jonathan Hunt magnifies and intensifies the brutality of the band's ever present hatred of trampled expectations. With pounding, artery popping guitars and bass and all the arrhythmia of Seth Nichols' drumming, the songs come together to form a soul cleansing medicine pack. Soul cleansing, in that the songs expel anger in verse and chorus. However, the musicians are musically gifted. The talent is above average. Their talent is heard in their ability to showcase rifts of high calibre. I would stake my reputation that these guys could play other genres as easily as hardcore despite the fact that it is their chosen style. The songs were recorded in a tornado like 2 week period yet show all the care and production value of having been carefully laid out. The surprising beauty of "Doraematu", an instumental piece shows that the band is capable of gentle rain through all the thunder and lightning that makes up this set. It also shows the sensitivity and understanding that is buried in the deep rocky veneer of this band's facade. While the underlying basis for much of their material is known only to Dead To Fall, their presentation of it is satisfying and well structured. This disc will fit well in many a hardcore, mosh dwelling fan's library DISC The production is spectacular. The quality of the sound is top notch as is usual by Victory standards despite having been crunched out in a two week period. You won't be disappointed in this disc. Tracks are clear and thunderous, vocals easily understood. PACKAGING Lyrics are provided in an eight page stapled booklet with graphics to be expected for a hardcore release like this one. Overall, a reasonable affair with most of the basic elements for a perfect core package. Photos would have been cool. THE FINAL SAY Dead To Fall is a good band that will please hardcore fans. The lyrics have something to say and the music is well played and presented.
