Saturday Night Live has poked fun at the many US Presidents over the years since its inception back in 1975. Our present President is not excepted. So what drives the comedy of George W? Quite simply, he just isn't comfortable without a pre-designed set of cards that provide him with a speaking path causing him to stumble over words when the discussion is "off the cuff." Hell, to be fair, I'd be just as nervous when the world is privy to every word that emanates from my mouth. Eloquence of speech has never been my strong side. Neither can we say the same about George W Bush.
Jon Stewart of the Daily Show acquires incredibly funny footage of Bush at a clear loss for words. Where does he get this stuff? Who knows. But when much of what George Bush speaks of has strange concepts contained within his statements, it's not difficult to come up with a wealth of "foot in the mouth" sayings. Shout! Factory has accumulated some of these and released a hilarious collection of embarrassingly funny "Bushisms."
This disc is divided into 5 chapters that take advantage of several arenas in which Bush will often find himself involved in discussions about. There is terrorism ("..bring the level of terror down to an acceptable level..."; education ("...phoneenic awareness..."); environment ("I know that human being and fish can co-exist co-exist peacefully." Huh?); economy ("You're working hard to put food on your family..."); and governance ("If this were a dictatorship, it'd be a heck of a lot easier...) These are samples but the disc is full of more hilarious misstatements.
George W is not the first President to fall under the public sense of humour nor will he be the last. This album is short with the five chapters providing a fair share of misquotes. The five chapters are completed and then reprised as an Afterword. Pricing is quite easy as well. This is comedy at its purest form especially when it's spontaneous and unintended. But believe me folks, we poke fun at world leaders and across party lines all the time so this is not intended to be injurious. In this time, we need comic relief and George W Bush provides his fair share.
