The Cars rose to prominence at the forefront of the New Wave rush to become one of the world's great , fondly remembered Rock bands.  Producing such classic hits like “My Best Friend's Girl,” “Just What I Needed,” “Good Times Roll,” “Let's Go,” along with a few other songs, some of them deep album cuts that were as popular as the singles released, Ocasek and his bandmates captured our musical attentions.  But after a brief hiatus from their 1981 album, Shake It Up, they released a solid album of tunes that included the highly successful “Drive” single, sung by Benjamin Orr.  That album is Heartbeat City.  Heartbeat City did some excellent business, selling more than 4 million units, and releasing five Top40 songs.  Clearly, The Cars were at the top of their game in 1983/1984, smack dab at the height of the MTV video years.

Songs from the album included not only the previously mentioned “Drive” but also “Hello Again,” “Magic,” the second Top10 hit in “You Might Think,” and “Why Can't I Have You.”  No one needs to have this reaffirmed; Heartbeat City is an enduring classic in the catalogue of The Cars.

What makes this edition so enticing is that it was re-mastered by “gloves-off” genius, Steve Hoffman, who employs a personal touch of respect that brings out the audio glory of the music, finding those sonic moments that make the song live.  Listening to "You Might Think" is wonderfully revelatory. Re-released by Audio Fidelity, who reissues re-mastered classics in their 24k+Gold CD series, undergoing a technical conversion process that is said to bring out the best qualities as originally enjoyed by the analog versions, this reissue of Heartbeat City is as clear and sweet sounding as you've heard it. Taking advantage of technological advances and Hoffman's expert mastering processes, this 24k+ Gold reissue is quality listening at the high level. It is well worth the cost of the CD.

Audio Fidelity reissues are numbered Limited Edition releases that increase their collectible value.
