Early California “surf” music from The Ventures lit up the airwaves in the ‘60s.  From their charting “Walk-Don’t Run” to their show themes, “Hawaii Five-O,” and “Secret Agent Man,”  The Ventures did pretty good business for themselves as a recording band.  Recently inducted into the Hall of Fame (2008), they seek to refresh our memories of their music with this re-recorded set of hits.

Normally, I’m not one for a re-recorded set of songs; in fact I shun much of it.  But the Ventures have done it before with success (“Walk-Don’t Run ‘64”) and so why not.  I’m adventurous.  The Ventures Play their Greatest Hits is a fine replay jaunt through history with 16 songs that even include both versions of “Walk-Don’t Run.”  The replays of “Secret Agent Man” and “Hawaii Five-O” work extremely well.

This album was recorded during 1999 and 2000 but is a good release showing that this band still has the ability to play as they did when they were first recording these classic tunes.
