If you treat the internet as a musical source much like you used to read your favourite rock magazines, then you get introduced on a regular basis to new and interesting bands and solo artists. If you dig a bit deeper into the smaller but highly influential music sites and blogs, much like you used to collect independently produced 8-page regional rock papers, then it is no doubt that you’ve heard of Danielson. Danielson is an art-rock band that consists of one Daniel Smith, whose unique tunes pleases and entertains.
Sujjan Stevens has called himself a huge fan of the band and has even recorded with them. Built on the framework of religion but beyond the usual kinds of songs that one would find for that genre, this collected set of Danielson tunes from the band’s first ten years – and six albums – is a unique set of the familiar peppered with some rare and previously unreleased music.
Trying Hartz ranges with material from 1994 through 2004. On their albums, they incorporate inventive folk and playful falsettos to create unusual but fascinating music that you’ve likely not heard before. If this type of musical adventurousness triggers your indie ears and restless Rock ‘n’ Roll heart, then this 2CD collection is a treat that you can throw on from time to time to remind why Rock music is the lively organism it is today.
Danielson is a highly recommended for the music fans that like something off from the ordinary pathways, something that you might not expect.
