Keaton Simons is an LA singer-songwriter that performs within the framework of Blues/Rock.  Previously signed to Maverick Records with a released EP (Currently) under the belt (the EP is, as Simons might put it, was an unfortunate affair – good music, bad label experience), Simons renews his push with Can You Hear Me.

Can You Hear Me is a new album by Simons, released on the resurrected CBS Records.  He has already had some songs on TV shows (Numb3rs, NCIS) with more slated for the upcoming Fall ’08 season.  The album contains 11 tracks that mix a soulful voice with bluesy guitar.  Some songs really amp the guitar, showing off powerful bursts of blues licks (“Nobody Knows,” “Mama Song,” which is quite a gritty piece of work). His lyrics are of the observatory kind with an overall sound not unlike John Hiatt.  I am finding it a little hard to shake the comparative feel of “Unstoppable” to Christina Aquilera’s “Beautiful.”

While Keaton Simons’ story of finding himself is a typical hard-luck story in the big city, especially with multi-tiered connected family (parents and stepfather are notable names and faces with accomplishments), he has the talent needed to work his Pop charm on a receptive audience.

And I LOVE the Springsteen-like cover of the album.
