This is the Life, the debut work from Scottish 20 year-old Amy Macdonald, is an excellent album that deserves all the attention it has already received in the Euro markets.  Released in 2007, the album has already charted at #1 in the UK, Denmark, the Netherlands, her native Scotland, and has done respectfully well in other markets. Although Amy Macdonald is enjoying an ascending success, as someone of her caliber will, it is her dynamic single, “Mr Rock and Roll” that is bringing mass attention to her.  “Mr Rock and Roll” is a superb single, a home-run in the TOP40 tradition.

But she doesn’t end there.  This is the Life is filled to the brim with incredibly deep album tracks that make the album more than a carrier of singles.  It makes it a time-honoured classic, sure to be remembered fondly 20 or 30 years from now.  Her craft produces songs that make her like Al Stewart (“This is the Life,” “Let’s Start a Band”), and U2 (“Run”).  There is also a picture-perfect, ‘60s-like folk tune in “The Road to Home” and a whole lot of Amy Macdonald, a name we’ll not soon forget.

This is the Life is a complete album for all music lovers.  When charts burn up for Mariah Carey, and pop-for-the-moment insta-stars (you all know who they are), Amy Macdonald is an adrenaline shot with an almost perfect album that lets us know that the music we listen to is a vastly potent force.  In all directions! This girl has star written in every fibre of her.

Throw your caution to the wind.  You won’t be disappointed.
