The ‘60s-like accent of Ode to Sunshine pays debts to early Beatles, and other bands of the same period including Bob Dylan (“People Turn Around”). But there is one thing that Delta Spirit will do completely and that is to grab your attention with their brand of music. Music that talks about possibilities.
Delta Spirit arrives from San Diego, CA. Already, they have caused people to take notice of their authentic sets of time-honored Rock. With the Lennon-esque, Beatles-like pop of “Tomorrow Goes Away,” the jollity of the piano-led “Trashcan,” with its later edition Beatles sound, the Billy Joel sound of “People C’mon,” and if you want ballads, they deliver those too (“House Built For Two”), the first half of Ode to Sunshine is already a winning combination of real Rock. It is followed by the second half with a song that could be any Pop tune from the ‘60s (“Streetwalker”). The rest is equally astonishing. And it was all recorded live in a cabin – lots of confidence.
Delta Spirit has drunk deeply from the Rock ‘n’ Roll well. Their flawless applications of everyman’s early Rock bathe Ode to Sunshine in plenty of grand old magic. For sure, you’ll hear something from everyone you’ve enjoyed in the past. But who else do you know that has released an album as spiritually electric as this one is.
That’s right. Check this one out. |
