Duane's Pit Stop

Write at dkleyva@musictap.net

Hey Welcome back to another Duane's Pit Stop. This week has been somewhat of a dry week in Punk but we still have some good news about bands touring around your neck of the woods. Also, as mentioned on last week's Duane's Pit Stop, you're viewing pictures of a piece of crap vehicle that I had purchased from Jessie, the lead singer of The Devil Dogs. Aww man, I must have been hammered. ahhh! I have work cut out for me. Damn, that ugly piece of crap is all mine.

I also wanted to take the time to answer some of reader questions. Jeff from Oregon asks why I never mention Social Distortion on Duane's Pit Stop. Well Jeff from Oregon, Social is really more of an Alternative Band and I just don't feel they would be proper for this site. Same thing goes for Nirvana and Greeeeen day! Another question asked by Donna from Pico Rivera, CA is what City is the best Punk coming from these days? Well Donna, you really don't have to look to far. Los Angeles, Ca has tons of Punk bands playing all over the City. Check out the Silver Lake area as well the West Side and OC. Look at the LA Weekly and the OC Weekly for further details, and with that in tow let's get to the news.

SONIC YOUTH IN TEXAS - Sonic Youth will spend Spring Break in Texas this year, visiting Austin, Houston, and Dallas on March 16,17, and 18. More dates are coming for this summer. We'll let you know.

The Shrooms NEWS - This weeks Hardrock Cafe show has been postponed and will be re-directed to the Hardrock in Universal City probably in late March early April. Hardrock Newport Beach is a go for Friday the 13th. Newsflash...................................Gary smells. Also, we'll be playing another show with D.I. in a couple of months so keep an eye out for that date.

Spitalfield, Hey Mercedes, TEN and Limbeck Hit the Road - In what sounds like it very well may be one of the year's most promising tours, Hey Mercedes, Spitalfield, The Early November and Limbeck will be doing a tour together. For tour dates head over to Spitalfield's website, right here.

Chasing Underoath Through The Studio - Solid State heavyweights Underoath are back in the studio to record their follow up to The Changing of Times. The new record is being recorded with producer James Paul Wisner, who has worked with the likes of Further Seems Forever, 238, and Dashboard Confessional, and is slated for a June 15th release. The release will be titled, They'™re Only Chasing Safety, and it'll be the first effort with the band's new vocalist, so we're all highly anticipating its release.

All Hail Walls of Jericho - After what seems like forever, the wait is over for the new Walls of Jericho record. The band's released an E-Card for the release entitled, All Hail The Dead. Head over here to preview two songs from the disc; "There's No I In F@@k You" and "A Little Piece Of Me" are both available. The new stuff sounds incredible, so hit it up.

Dark Days For Thin Dark Line - Thin Dark Line has announced that the rest of their tour dates with friends Rookie Of The Year and The Spill Canvas have been cancelled. The van that kept all of the TSP and ROTY stuff was stolen in Columbus, OH, making it impossible for them to continue the tour. The bands have yet to recover the van though they are searching high and low; if you've any information at all, contact the bands through either of their websites.

Of course, that's not it on the bad news. Though TDL would like to continue the rest of the tour on their own, they can't either as their van has decided to call it quits on them. The combination of a lack of mobility and touring partners have left the guys with no other choice. Sincerest apologies come from the bands to the kids who were planning to head out to their shows. Thin Dark Line will soon be announcing an April tour with Ever Since Radio, so keep a look out for that, especially if you missed the guys this time around.

Pick up their EP next week, then go on a hunger strike 'til the release of the full length Cool To Be You out March 23rd. See their e-card: http://www.fatwreck.com/junk/descendents_merican.html

A Rare Militia Group E-Card - The Militia Group has a new e-card for their compilation with rare and unreleased songs from Rufio, The Beautiful Mistake, Copeland, Brandston, Lyndsay Diaries, and Blueprint Car Crash. You can listen to songs from The Beautiful Mistake, Brandtson and Blueprint Car Crash. Check it out here.

The Empire Strikes First - The new Bad Religion album will be titled "The Empire Strikes First" and it is tentatively scheduled to be out on June 8th! The album will be released more than a month after the European tour begins.

White Stripes Plan New Album - Jack White has said he'll spend the time between now and the Reading And Leeds Festivals working on the follow-up to "Elephant". The duo, whose UK tour ended last week (January 30) with an NME Awards Show at the London Brixton Academy, will not play over here again until the summer if Jack gets his way.

He told John Peel: "We're done with "Elephant", and we're not touring any more on that album so, I just need a break. We've toured the world on it, so I guess I got to get inspired again¦ When you keep playing every night, every night, and we put so much energy every night into it...I don't like to write songs on the road, so I need to just go home and rest."

White Stripes release a new single "There's No Home for You Here" on vinyl on March 15. There are also plans for a DVD, recorded on their recent UK shows.

The Ducky Boys Looking For Bass Player - The Ducky Boys are currently looking for a bass player who can sing harmony vocals. You should be from the Boston area if you want to do it, have some band experience and be willing to join us for lots of weekend shows, a tour in March that will bring you to California with Dropkick Murphys and Blood for Blood, the recording of a new CD by the end of the summer and a fall tour. If you're interested then email Mark at DeadSoSoon@hotmail.com.

G.G. Allin Beyond The Grave - Late shock rocker to be captured in new documentary. While he was alive, G.G. Allin was best known for his blood-and-guts live show, which included such crowd pleasers as defecating on stage and brawling with the audience. In other words, everything but his music.

But since his heroin-related death in 1993, Allin's legend has spread, thanks in part to the Todd Phillips-directed documentary Hated and artists like Mike Patton, CKY and Hank Williams III covering his songs.

According to Allin's brother (and bassist for his last-ever backing band, the Murder Junkies) Merle, demand for new G.G. product is at an all-time high. And by offering CDs, videos and merchandise on ggallin.com, Merle plans to keep feeding the growing market. Tops on the list is an in-the-works documentary by filmmaker Mark Hejnar, which threatens to dig even deeper than Hated. "He traveled with us back in the early Nineties," explains Merle. "He's got tons of interviews with G.G. and footage that I've never seen."

Also upcoming is a DVD of 2003's "10 Year Anniversary Show," which was held this past summer in Littleton, New Hampshire, where G.G. is buried. The event featured reunion sets by G.G.'s original band, the Jabbers, as well as the Murder Junkies, with Antiseen frontman Jeff Clayton assuming G.G.'s spot behind the mike.

And Merle has more tributary plans: "I'm going to start working on a scrapbook/photo album, and then eventually a real book. Other then that, we're trying to put out some singles collection compilations."

With so many holes in G.G.'s discography, a career-spanning box set might seem a natural next step, but don't hold your breath. "I don't think there will ever be a G.G. box set," Allin says. "There's just too many f***ing labels involved." (RollingStone.com)

The Bronx Strait from their site. Canadian company fuse TV has decided to start playing our video for false alarm...but there is a catch. Seems that a socialist country where voting doesn't matter, is encouraging internet dorks to vote for videos that they want to see. So - in lieu of this new voting parameter, underage children can "vote" for what "the kids" think is "hot". Love me some barbeque! Also - American company MTV has also decided to start playing our video, and here is the catch. There is no catch. in a nation that votes, we don't have to vote for what the "kids" think is "hot shit". Damn I love me some kids. so - it's gonna be on head banger's ball on the 9th of this month. There is a link somewhere in here to Canadia, I can't figure out how to get it to work, nor do I have the patience. Voting starts on Monday. ok, click here to vote. Oven fresh just like mom used to make.

Well that's going to do it for another week in the Duane's Pit Stop. Punk out and we'll talk to you again.

Peace.

And yeah that's my sweet ass 95 Strat! In my 64 Merc.

Love you Roxy... be good!
