Hello and welcome back to another Duane’s Pit Stop. I have been on somewhat of a hiatus during the past month and now need to catch up with some Punk News as well as some major announcements. First off and on a very good note, we here at MusicTAP are very glad to announce, in conjunction with bluebongocafe.com, that there is a fabulous venue location in the Artist district of the Downtown Los Angeles, CA. If you’re a up and coming Punk Band or a recording band and would like to entertain or even practice your new material give Chris or
Mark
a call for a booking at 213.687.3766. Tell them the Bastard Duane sent ya! (Hey I have to pay my bar tab some way). I’m quite pleased to see that LA is getting back in the Punk scene.
I also wanted to answer Jim McNaughton's email about my thoughts concerning the latest Punk scene? Well, Jim, as always in the Music Industry, it always appears that history just seems to repeat itself. Back in the day, bands like Minor Threat, Husker Du, and The Clash, for their time, was considered by other genres of music as just loud-ass noise with no musical skills. But for the young music fan who was just tired of the then current music scene with all its inherent commercialism and just god-awful music were looking for something different, something that the individual just could relate to. And badda-bing badda-boom! Punk was our holy answer. As the years progressed so did those bands. Some remained Punk while others matured into well-establish Musicians and ventured off to other styles of Music. Now Jim, if you look at some of the current Punk Bands that are currently big in the Punk scene, a majority of my age group will say what was being said years back about the early Punk bands. I personally give them all a chance and look for originality in their lyrics and music but, as of late, the corporate big wigs in the Music industry have been trying to push on alot of poser Punk Bands. airing them on a lot major Radio Stations through out the U.S. If you really want to hear good Punk Jim, give the Indie music labels a chance as well as listen to some College radio through the Internet for damn good quality Punk. Be real and don’t follow!
With that final note let’s get to the NEWS.

Green Day Considering American Idiot: The Movie - Remember when The Who released Tommy, it became a Broadway play, a best selling album and a movie that was crammed with cameos and lackluster performances? Green Day are considering the movie angle for their recent resurrection of the lost art form of the rock opera, American Idiot. The idea is purely speculation now, but the band it considering having someone write a screenplay based on the album and have tossed around a few ideas for cameos and characters, including the Good Charlotte brothers as " I don't know, [as] some kind of schizophrenic character or something like that." The band is also entertaining the idea of releasing a documentary on the recording of the album.

Vaux Gets Hot - If sex were a record, chances are it would be Vaux's newest release, Plague Music. Though the record doesn't drop on Equal Vision Records until September 21, PunkHardcore's already got the review. Head to our reviews page to check it out. The band is currently headlining the EVR tour, set to kick off tomorrow, September 18, in
Kansas City
,
MO
with labelmates Endicott, Codeseven, Bars, Before Today and Fear Before The March Of Flames. EVR has the dates. Hey, You!: Mer doesn't do everything around here, you know. Yet another review was posted, this time of Tsunami Bomb's impending release, The Definitive Act, in stores this Tuesday. Not only that, but a review of Villainy And Virtue by Dead to Fall is up as well.
Weezer To Finish Album After Holidays - Weezer is nearly finished recording its long-gestating fifth Geffen studio album, according to posts on the band's official Web site. Group members have been working on songs for the past several days without frontman Rivers Cuomo, who will spend the next few months attending
Harvard
University
.
"While the main 12 songs are very close to completion (and may be in some cases truly completed) there is no way of knowing this for sure until everyone has had the chance to try everything they think may elevate the tracks," the site says. "Of course that includes Rivers, who is now away at school for the semester. While everyone agrees that most of the tracks are very close, it may turn out that additional work will be needed."
"The upshot of all this is that the album probably won’t be truly finished until after the holidays, which means it likely won't see release until spring '05, given the several months the record label requires to prepare for an album's release," the site continues. "The cool part is that everything on the album has had (and will have had) ample time to be the best it can be -- no rushing or cutting corners."
New Big D Videos Online - Big D And The Kids Table has added a trio of new videos on their site. You can watch "You Lost You're Crazy" live in Florida, "Girls Against Drunk Bitches" live in Florida, and Sean P. Rogan's short indie film "Lightning Strikes" here - www.bigdandthekidstable.com/movies

Snapcase side project seeking vocalist and guitarist According to a posting on Snapcase's official website, the side project featuring Ben, Dustin and Frank is currently searching for a vocalist and a guitarist to round out their line up. The band has already begun working on a track for the upcoming Jawbox tribute album being released by Two Sheds Music. It is not clear if this is the same side project we mentioned back in April since the posting refers only to the band as "the project."
On a related note, our compadres at Punkrocks have been looking into the status of Snapcase, and have concluded that the band is in "stasis" and while they are currently working on projects including a DVD and an EP of new material, the band is not planning any touring for the forseeable future due to "personal and family schedules" on the part of Daryl and Jon.

This is Tommy Ramone with an update on The Ramones Musical ‘Gabba Gabba Hey!’ We just finished a successful showcase run in
Perth
Australia
. It was well received by both the Audience and the critics. With a book by novelist Michael Herrmann, the show was directed by New York-based Andy Goldberg with choreography by Strictly Ballroom star Paul Mercurio. I was very happy to be involved as the musical director. With a cast of seven and a band of three (lead by former Clash guitarist Nick Sheppard) the production is both faithful to the spirit of the Ramones as well as a groundbreaking rock-theater hybrid. We are hoping to bring the show to the
US
sometime next year. Additional information on ‘Gabba Gabba Hey!’ can be found at www.ramonesmusical.com
