I said God Damn! That was one Hell of a New Years Eve Party and it took me this long to recover, so sorry for the delay, but I’m back with a even more cheesier Duane’s Pit Stop. I do hope every one had a pleasant Holidays. We're almost into February 2004, I said God Damn! For this week's posting, we have tons of info on the indie labels and tours coming through your neck of the woods also I wanted to take this time to thank you, the readers, for the great pictures and music you have been sending me at dkleyva@musictap.net. Also, a lot the readers have been questioning -- what’s with the albums and comments above this page? Well these are just albums that I have been listening to this week as well with my comments, I do hope you enjoy that. And it looks like you're getting two for the price of one today, mainly due to that Bastard Editor Matt Rowe neglecting to put last week's posting of the Pit Stop up. But it’s all good. I hope you all enjoy this extended edition of Duane’s Pit Stop and just to answer Reader Bob Levin's question about who I really think is the hottest Punk Band out there right now. Hummmm ...good question Bob. The Dropkick Murphys are really kicking some serious butt right. I may lean towards them or any of the local Los Angeles Punk bands that are out there right now. But then again, that’s me. Keep them questions coming. I will answer them as fast as I can. Now let's get busy with the news…and with that in tow, let’s get to the news.

Pixies Reunited At Coachella - After even more waiting on news for the reunitng of the legendary band, Pixies, finally news has been broken that the band will headline the first night of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on May 1st in Indio, California. More tour and album news will be posted as it is known.
Paint It Black working on new full length - Paint It Black have added a second guitar player to the mix, and they also plan to start working on their next full length very soon. It will be recorded with J-Robbins. We all know exactly what to expect from this, more well structured 19 second songs of mayhem.
DEFTONES News - frontman Chino Moreno announced during a co-hosting appearance on the radio show "Sounds of Sac" on KWOD this past Sunday (Jan. 11) that the band are going back into the studio this week to record their fifth album. Moreno and drummer Abe Cunningham, who co-hosted the program with Chino, also confirmed that the group's record label, Maverick Records, has opted not to release a third single from their last album, "Deftones". In addition to playing several DEFTONES cuts during their co-hosting appearance, the duo premiered a track (tentatively titled "Foreign Flag") from Chino's side-project TEAM SLEEP, to be included on TEAM SLEEP's long-delayed debut album, tentatively due later in the year.
New Descendents and Subhumans mp3s - Fat has added new mp3s from The Descendents and Subhumans. Check them out!
The Descendents - "Cooler Than You"
Subhumans - "Religious Wars"
Slick Shoes' new rhythm section - Curiously enough, Slick Shoes has replaced their bassist Kevin and drummer Joe with two new guys Bill Lanz on drums and Josh Kleven on bass. The band's statement on the whole switcheroo deal doesn't exactly cite "creative differences" because "it's just an excuse", but from what they went on to say, that's pretty much what it seems to come down to. Whatever the reason is, the new lineup will be debuting at the Staring Back show at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood.
New Head Automatica Track -Head Automatica is a new project featuring Darryl Palumbo from Glassjaw on vocals with backbeats from a legion of people including the heralded producer Dan the Automator. They just posted a new track on their site for streaming that is actually really good. Now sit back and watch a bunch of Long Island kids simultaneously "discover" this style of music...
New Staring Back site - Staring Back just unveiled a sleek new website. The band also has a few shows towards the end of January also, so make sure to check those out as well.
1/23/04 Solvang, CA Solvang Veterans Hall Epileptic Hero, Awkward Silence, Chapter Four
1/30/04 Hollywood, CA The Knitting Factory Slick Shoes, Anthym, Eleventeen
Satanic Surfers line up changes - Geir from Adhesive was to be the band's new vocalist, however will not be fulling that role due to complications that arose from distance and a full time job. Mathias is no longer playing bass for the band and has moved to Berlin. Rodrigo is back playing drums and vocals, however the band is looking for a new drummer. The group was without a bass player but now band friend Andy is filling that position.
The band has nonetheless been working on new songs. They have the a new record about halfway written and expect to have it released in the fall.
The Schematics calling it quits - Poughkeepsie NY's The Schematics are calling it quits. In a statement, trumpet player Chris Lafave stated "This is something that has meant more to all of us than you could ever imagine, but when it came down to it, we all decided that we weren't able to give this band what we thought it deserved or needed to survive any longer, and rather than hang on painfully too long just going through the motions, we recognized where it was going and wanted to end things on good terms." The band has three final shows in February and March playing with bands like The Toasters, The Pietasters, The Planet Smashers and others.

The band wanted to clarify that there is no love lost between the departed singer and the rest of the band, they just believe it is in the best interest of all parties involved.
Your Day Strong - are currently putting the finishing touches on recording their deubt full-length, A Phantom To Fathom. Recorded in March of 2003 by Bill Stevenson and Jason Livermore at The Blasting Room in Ft. Collins, Colorado, "Mute Print" features eleven of the most blazing and progressive hardcore punk rock songs that have yet to be heard. Drawing influences ranging from Iron Maiden to Bad Religion and punk visionaries Propaghandi and Hot Water Music, A Wilhelm Scream's latest effort is sure to be one of 2004's most celebrated releases.
A Wilhelm Scream has been one of the most loyal and hardworking bands (and people) we at Jump Start have ever had the pleasure of working with, and we wish them nothing but the best in the future. Be sure to check them out on tour with Much the Same (A-F Records), Break the Silence (Hopeless Records), and Near Miss (Fearless Records) throughout February and March. Tiger Army - The release of the brand-new album from Tiger Army, III: Ghost Tigers Rise is now set for Tuesday, May 25, 2004. The date had initially been set for late April, but the unfortunately the deadline just couldn't be met. Nick 13 is currently in the studio slaving away on the tracks, probably as you read this! From what we've heard so far, this record will definitely be worth the wait!
There's a small feature on the upcoming album in this month's issue of Alternative Press, check it out and if you feel like it write to them and let them know you'd like to see more of Tiger Army in their pages! That's all for now, hope you're all having a good new year so far and the band is really looking forward to seeing all of you on the road 2004.

The band is expected to be in pre-production on a new batch of songs through the end of the month, after which time it will return to the studio to record the material. "Happily, between Rick Rubin and Weezer, quality control standards are at an all time high," according to the band's official Web site.

Further Seems Forever - Jason Gleason Leaves -
lot of rumours have been posted on the net regarding Further Seems Forever future. Here is the official statement from the band: The statements already made by Jason Gleason regarding his departure from Further Seems Forever are not official announcements from the band and were disseminated by him alone.
In the following statement, the band hopes to bring the objective truth to light without the taint of personal feelings. We refuse to sully our music with any "sordid" details of Jason's departure, yet we feel that our fans deserve to know the course of events that have lead to the demise of FSF. Hopefully, the following will accomplish just that.
In the tail end of the recording process for our upcoming album, after the music lay complete and awaiting vocals, Jason e-mailed us to announce that he was leaving Further Seems Forever without explanation. While we were aware that he was not fully satisfied with membership in the band, through the course of many encouraging discussions Jason assured us that we had worked out our problems and he remained committed to us. His decision left our music as a proverbial hostage as we now had no way to finish the album.
This left the remaining members of the band in an artistically and legally precarious situation. It also left the band as a whole and its remaining members in financial ruin. Tooth and Nail was also left in a bind. As our label they had already spent money and time to complete the project. Jason's decision to leave at this time had negative effects that stretched far beyond the band.
After much discussion between the parties involved and our label, the situation has now become cordial. Jason has verbally agreed to complete the album with us, bringing our last project as FSF to fruition. We believe in the music enough to share it with others despite the now certain disbanding of FSF.
We are also 100% committed to bringing you our music personally on the up coming Tooth and Nail Tour. However, Jason has not yet informed us as to whether he will do the tour with us. We wish him the best in future endeavors regardless of his decision.
As a band, FSF in all forms, has experienced together the full range of human emotions, from sorrow to elation. We have all been emotionally bruised by the course of events. Finally, we want all the fans to know what they have meant to us. In times of stress and disunity, the faith and love of "our people" has been a consolation; much more than that it has been a confirmation that all we have done is not in vain.
Our music mattered to you and, therefore, achieved its most hoped for effect. The remaining members of the band will continue to create music together in the near future, as we have done for the past 10 years.
Thank you and God Bless,
Chad, Joshua, Steve, Derick

Johnny Rotten To Appear In Reality TV Show - To the dismay of aging punk fans, a British television company announced Monday that the former Sex Pistols singer and angry punk icon - now known by his real name, John Lydon - has agreed to appear in the reality show I'm a Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here!
"I'm gobsmacked," said Tony Wilson, a British journalist and music entrepreneur who knows Lydon. "I'm shocked, but I have faith ... I'm sure he's doing it for the right reasons."
Other punk fans were appalled.
"The announcement made me feel instantly old. ... If it has come to this for the prince of punk, then mediocrity really does get us all in the end," wrote Lee Randall in The Scotsman newspaper.
In The Guardian, rock critic Charles Shaar Murray said "minds boggled" when rumours of Lydon's participation surfaced. "Whatever happened to punk rock, maaaaan?"
Britain's near-insatiable appetite for celebrity gossip - no matter how minuscule the celebrity - and love of reality TV has spawned a clutch of celeb-reality hybrids, including Celebrity Big Brother and Drop the Celebrity, in which the moderately famous face ejection (with parachute) from a plane.
I'm a Celebrity, which begins its third latest run Jan. 26 on the commercial ITV network, strands C-list celebs in the Australian jungle, subjects them to a series of icky trials involving spiders and snakes and allows the public to vote them off the show one by one.
The show has proved a hit in Britain, drawing up to 14 million viewers - nearly a quarter of the population. A U.S. version on ABC last year fared less well.
There's no prize money for the winner, but previous British victors - a DJ and a cricketer - experienced big boosts to flagging careers.
Alongside Lydon, the lineup includes a topless model named Jordan, former Olympic 400-metre runner Diane Modahl, '80s pop pinup Peter Andre, and Lord Brocket, an aristocrat jailed in 1996 for insurance fraud.
They're joined by a member of a girl group, a former soccer player, a former soccer player's wife, a former BBC royal correspondent and a former radio DJ.
The show's executive producer, Natalka Znak, said the lineup was "the most unpredictable cast yet."
"Unpredictable" certainly sums up Lydon. As lead singer of The Sex Pistols, Lydon, now 47, helped revolutionize music with raucous anti-establishment tracks such as Anarchy in the U.K. and the bitterly sarcastic God Save the Queen.
The group's outlandish dress sense and incendiary lyrics - "God save the queen, the fascist regime" - shook up British society, but the Pistols' career was short-lived. The band broke up during a tour of the United States in 1978. At their final show, Lydon goaded the audience with the words, "Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?"
Lydon went on to form the '80s band Public Image Limited and now lives in Los Angeles. The Sex Pistols reunited in 1996 - with original bassist Glen Matlock replacing the late Sid Vicious - for the Filthy Lucre Tour: "We have found a common cause, and it's your money," remarked Lydon. They reformed again in 2002 to coincide with the Queen's golden jubilee.
