Duane's Pit Stop

Write at dkleyva@musictap.net

Hey.. welcome back to another Duane’s Pit Stop. This week marks a three day weekend and that means a lot of gigs and good food to be BBQ'd. Hopefully your favorite band will be in your neck of the woods.

I also want to thank Jupiter and Mark for the funny pictures that they emailed to me. I should have those pics up in the upcoming weeks but for now it’s all about exposing Matt Rowe for what he really is. (Uhh, would that be carnie, Duane? - Ed) And with that final note let’s get to the news.

SONIC YOUTH - SONIC NURSE - Sonic Youth's nineteenth long player will be released in North America on June 8 2004 and is entitled "Sonic Nurse". Describing the record, the band has asked listeners to imagine "Bare Trees" era Fleetwood Mac jamming with "Jealous Again" era Black Flag.

Geffen Records will release this album on the CD format, and Goofin' Records will release the double LP in an attractive gatefold cover.

The tracklisting for the album is as follows:

Pattern Recognition
Unmade Bed
Dripping Dream
Kim Gordon and the Arthur Doyle Hand Cream
Stones
Dude Ranch Nurse
New Hampshire
Paper Cup Exit
I Love You Golden Blue
Peace Attack

Samples of every song on the album can be heard here.

The CD can be pre-ordered through amazon.com now. The 2 x LP will be available through Revolver.

Both will soon be available on the new sonicyouth.com store.

Bandits, Fish, Kids, Catches, Boys and More - Want to hit up what's sure to be one of the hottest tours of the summer? Head over here to see tour dates for Reel Big Fish's summer tour featuring Rx Bandits, Catch-22, Big D and the Kids Table, Lucky Boys Confusion and more.

Until The Next Record - Until The End is back into the studio. Studio 13 is where it's at; the band will be working with producer Jeremy Staska and aiming for a completion by July so the record can be available through the web and at shows. They're looking to have the record hit stores late summer or early fall. The band also welcomes their new vocalist, Jame McHugh. The release will be McHugh's debut, but if you can't wait until the record, you can hear him play with the band at MAGICFEST 2K4 (if you live in Southern FL and don't know what that is, you should be ashamed of yourself). UTE also notes that Mean Pete is out of the picture, but on good terms, as he could not commit to both UTE and Remembering Never. There's a lot in the works for Until The End, so keep an eye out; you won't be sorry.

All Else Failed Back To Shoot Down Rumors  - We've got some news about the murky information regarding what All Else Failed has been doing lately straight from Abacus Records:

"Although plagued by a mysterious past of near break ups, different projects, or the favorite word: "hiatus," the Philly-based All Else Failed are back to dispel all the rumors. More primed and ready than ever, they are back with a solid line-up in tact and an all-new full length, to boot. Composed of 14 tracks, the effort, entitled This Never Happened, features the band firing on all cylinders (and even some cylinders you didn't even know they had). The new album will be released August 10th on Abacus Recordings with touring plans to be announced shortly."

The band will also be playing at Hellfest this year with Misfits, Love is Red and Folly among others.

Greetings, Malady  - Anyone who knows anything about hardcore knows that pg.99 and City of Caterpillar were two of the most crucial bands to ever hit the scene, and while both have sadly met their demise you can hear music made by former members of both bands here. The band in question is of course Malady who were signed to Level-Plane seemingly virtually the instant they were formed. But enough hype, just give this song a listen and you'll see why Malady rock.

Life After Bobby  - Life Before This has some not-so-uplifiting news to share. Long time guitarist Bobby Montemurro has decided to discontinue playing with LBT. The Goshen , NY band has issued this statement about Montemurro's departure:

"This is not the type of announcement any band enjoys making. Bobby has left Life Before This to pursue other interests. We always had a blast playing with Bobby and wouldn't trade the time he spent in this band for anything, but sometimes the decision had to be made to put friendship before our ambitions, and sadly in this case that meant parting ways. We wish him the best in all future endeavors, musically and personally. We will continue making music as a four piece. However, we are always open to trying out other guitarists. If you're interested or know anybody that would be, e-mail us at info@lifebeforethis.com."

If you're interested in filling Bobby's spot, drummer Mike Kalajian urges you to please contact the band with your inquiry.

Obsessed with Eighteen Visions - Eighteen Visions's long awaited new record is finally on the cusp of being released. Though you can't get it in stores until June 15th, an 18V e-card has been set-up, packed with two new tracks from the release, Obsession. Both the songs "Waiting For The Heavens" and " Tower Of Snakes " are up to stream; click here for the goods. The band is on tour with From Autumn To Ashes and Atreyu (whose new stuff, personally from me, is incredible), and will be on the Warped Tour this summer, too. If that isn't enough, the band is part of that incredible straight-edge comp the lovely Lance reported under me. New stuff is brewing all over, so you better get on it.

Authority Zero With Castro, Hitler And Einstein Cameos - The new Authority Zero album, entitled "Andiamo", hits stores on June 29th and they just released a new video for the track "Revolution". This video is pretty funny - controversial lyrics, but a fun atmosphere featuring cameos from some of the world's top revolutionary figures. Definitely check this out:
