Duane's Pit Stop

Write at dkleyva@musictap.net

Hey! Welcome back to another week in Duane’s Pit Stop. This week, as promised, we are displaying some picture’s from The Shrooms and The Thrusters along with The La Bestia pictures taken just a couple of weeks ago in the Boyle Heights area of Los Angeles, CA. All of these bands are rad so check them out if you're in LA. I also wanted to respond to Mark Dang from San Francisco, CA. on his question of "Have you heard the latest Pixies live material?" Well Mark, I actually downloaded the bootleg version on-line and the selection of songs of that live performance were incredible. And the band has never sounded better; a must if you’re a Pixies fan. Hell, I may just break down and actually buy the CD when it comes out. And with that final note, let’s get to the news.

Mick Jones / Tony James project on the road in the UK - NME is reporting that Clash guitarist Mick Jones and Generation X bassist Tony James will be touring in the UK this May. The duo will perform under the name Carbon/Silicon, a group they formed in 2002 that's been behind a number of of electronic mixes built on classic rock samples, including riffs from the Who and the Rolling Stones. Some demo material is online at Planet BAD. 0 comments

The new album from Florida 's Underoath, "They're Only Chasing Safety," hits stores everywhere on June 15th on Tooth & Nail/Solid State Records.

Fugazi bass player - Joe Lally, has announced the launch of a new website to sell CDs of the first of the many live recordings Fugazi has collected over the band's 15+ year career. The website can be found by going to:

http://www.fugaziliveseries.com

Now, here is a description of the Fugazi "Live" site from the band:

"For many years, Fugazi has made a point of taping our live shows. We started out using a simple cassette recorder, moved on to a digital audio tape recorder (DAT) and finally just burned straight on to CDs. Our past attempts at releasing a definitive live show proved fruitless as we could never settle on performances we all felt represented the band at it's best. Instead it was decided that some day we would try to find an easy way to make as many of the tapes available to people as we could.

This site marks the beginning of that concept - a basic testing of the waters to see what, if any, interest there is. We have digitally transferred an initial sampling of tapes from our archives and for every order we receive, we will burn a CD copy of the show requested using a generic cover with concert information and a track listing.

These are very much the original recordings without any attempt to correct for things like volume changes, strange mixing effects, or the occasionally out-of-tune guitar. Though the sound quality on these tapes does vary, if a show was too poorly recorded it didn't make the cut. There will be more shows added as interest indicates and time permits but for now here's twenty."

MTX's Doctor Frank On Tour In The Northeast - You know Dr. Frank's from MTX, a.k.a. The Mr. T Experience, from their 15+ year history as art punks, pop punks, post punkers, and most recently, blogging punks.

MTX has a new record, their best ever, and just finished a great tour of the U.S. Now Dr. Frank is hitting the road again... just a man and a guitar, which is a fresh way to hear his songs

The new MTX record is called "Yesterday Rules" and was released Jan. 13, 2004. Dr. Frank's solo album, "Show Business Is My Life" from 1999 is also available.

The upcoming NE tour is:

Guided By Voices Goes The Way Of The Dinosaur - Matador's hardest working band, Guided By Voices, is calling it quits after nearly twenty years of playing together. Singer Robert Pollard wants the band to go out with a bang, ending on New Years Eve in New York this year. The reason for the split up is, explained by Pollard that he's "getting too old to be a gang leader." Pollard intends on writing and recording as solo act after the split. Until then, GBV will be touring one final time and will be releasing their last album on Matador, entitled Half Smiles Of The Decomposed, on August 24th.

Dashboard Confessional Rerelease - Did you already buy the most recent Dashboard Confessional album, A Mark , A Mission , A Brand, A Scar? Then prepare to feel like a sucker. A Mark , A Mission, A Brand, A Scar, A Billion Crying Emo Kids (I might be making that last part up) will be rereleased on May 18th.

Brilliant Brazil - Always turning out new stuff, we're like the site that never sleeps...or something. Maybe that's just becuase all of our reporters are insomniacs, but that's beyond the point. Anyway, in the spirt of all things new, we've got a new interview posted conducted by our own DJ Bernat with the boys of Brazil . If you've ever wondered what makes these Fearless Records hotshots tick (or how they like their orange juice), now's your chance. Hot off the press, here's your Brazil interview.

Thrice And The Ambulance Video - Have you ever wanted to influence a music video? Well, now you can. Thrice's third video, for The Artist and the Ambulance, will feature a lyrical photograph collage and the band needs your help to fill it out. Send thrice@refused.tv a picture with your name, address, phone number, email and what word your photograph describes. The file must be less than 1MB and should be in JPG format. For any other questions and stipulations, visit Thrice's Website.

Underoath Revamped - The first Underoath record with the band's new vocalist is on the cusp of release; the album will drop June 15th. In support of They're Only Chasing Safety, the band has revamped their website to give you a taste of the punch they're packing. And, if your ears just can't hold out, the band has come to the rescue. Pick up the mp3 for "Reinventing Your Exit" at their PureVolume page.

SONIC YOUTH - SONIC NURSE - Sonic Youth's nineteenth long player will be released in North America on June 8 2004 and is entitled "Sonic Nurse". Describing the record, the band has asked listeners to imagine "Bare Trees" era Fleetwood Mac jamming with "Jealous Again" era Black Flag.

Geffen Records will release this album on the CD format, and Goofin' Records will release the double LP in an attractive gatefold cover.

The tracklisting for the album is as follows:

Pattern Recognition
Unmade Bed
Dripping Dream
Kim Gordon and the Arthur Doyle Hand Cream
Stones
Dude Ranch Nurse

Paper Cup Exit
I Love You Golden Blue
