Happy Holiday From Duane’s Pit Stop

We here at MusicTAP just want to take this time to wish everyone a pleasant and safe Holidays. I also want to thank all of the readers of Duane’s Pit Stop for making this column as big as our starting page of MusicTAP. When I had first started putting together weekly postings of world wide punk news, I had never envisioned that this site would take off like it has. Of all things, I had only anticipated doing this for about four months. But you, the readers, have made the success of Duane’s Pit Stop what it is. From only 20 clicks a week to thousands in a day...wow! Thank you!! I'd like to give special thanks to the following readers and friends, that Bastard Julio and Big Rob for your thoughts on the cheesy pictures that I post every week, Art from the Shrooms, Face to Face, Betty from D-Records, SG Charlie, Debbie from Sony, Johnny “Boots” Rodriguez, Josie B from the County, The Lil P’s drunks, and that medieval B##ch who dumped me earlier this week, Ann. And a real special thanks to my Bud, Matt Rowe, the Editor and Web Master of MusicTAP. You, of all people, have made this year in MusicTAP really happen, Sir. So take your bow now, you little inbred Bastard!

With all of that being said this week’s posting will be the last posting for the year so I intend to make this posting special, thanks again from the bottom of my heart and I do intend to make next years Duane’s Pit Stop even better…

Thrusters News from Art of the Shrooms - Some news for ya. According from George from the Thrusters, they are regrouping and going to be re-recording all their music in the next coming month. If they need a new guitarist I'm there. This all stemmed from the gig a couple of weeks ago in which Mark and George were ecstatic that people want to see em back. I guess having Mark sing while we did backup paid off. Talk to you later. Remember we play with D.I. on Saturday at the Stardust. Mark and George will be there.

CN:R Won't See the New Year - Codename:Rocky a longtime face of the Orange County ska scene have announced they will be calling it quits as of January 1st and will be dropping off the Ska Brawl tour scheduled with The Toasters and more. There was no specific reason cited for the break up.

Winter Weather Brings Bad Luck For Bleeding Through - Trustkill's Bleeding Through were involved in a four car pile-up on Utah's I-80 yesterday when they hit black ice. Luckilly, no members were badly hurt in the bad crash, and they all came out with minor bumps and bruises. The same can't be said for their equipment; the band's van and trailer have been destroyed, but that's all secondary.

Unfortunately, the band can't finish the remainder of their tour, and they apologize to the fans that were going to come out to see them. They've promised they'll be back in the new year.

PunkHardcore wishes the band the best of recoveries of the BT crew, and hopes that they'll be able to get going again soon. If you want to send your wishes to Bleeding Through, do it at bleedingthrough@trustkill.com.

The Agony Scene In Agony? - Add another one to the list of band change-ups. The Agony Scene have announced that guitarist Chris Emmons wil be parting ways with the band. That means that the rest of 2003 is defunct for the band, and they're going to have to cancel a few of their tour spots for the remainder of the year. The guitarist left on good terms, and the band wishes him the best of luck. TAS hopes to be back on the road in early 2004 with a bunch of new material and a replacement announced very soon, also.

Desaparecidos Off Plea For Peace & Recording - Unfortunate news from the Saddle Creek camp, Connor Oberst's Desaparecidos have dropped from the Plea For Peace tour slated for April through June 2004 due to conflicting schedules of the other band members. This also means that they won't be able to sit in a studio to record their next album. Who will replace them on the Plea For Peace Tour with Cursive and Mike Park has not been revealed yet.

A Plethora Of Band Change-Ups - Kevin, bassist of Slick Shoes has left the band due to creative differences. But, he's not quite out of the game yet, he's looking for another band to play in and tour with. If your band needs a bassist, drop him a line. In related news, Give Up the Ghost bassist Josh has also left the band. The band's European tour will go on with Brian playing bass for the remainder of the tour. No explanation was given for the split other than that he has a new band.

And finally, Aaron Feibus of The Æffect will leave the band as of after this Saturday's show in Gainesville, citing "personal reasons." Steve and Brad will continue the band without Aaron. How this will affect their upcoming album on Suburban Home is unknown.

A Slew of News From Sonic Youth - Everybody's favorite experimental punk rockers Sonic Youth have made some big announcements pertaining to news involving themselves and even some other bands.

First of all the band will be following up its 2 disc re-release of its album Dirty with a similar re-release of GOO. In other re-release news 1991: The Year Punk Broke which featured SY, Nirvana and more is being planned for a 2 disc DVD re-release some time in the near future depending upon legal complications.

In the department of future news SY will be playing at the All Tomorrows Parties festival in the UK one day or night and also plan to record a new album for Spring/Early summer of 2004 and kick off a summer tour and are working out the details for that as well.

Fall Out Boy Tour Update - Fall Out Boy has a few days off from their almost-never-ending tour and they are kicking back in Chicago. Joe and Pete had a shopping spree at the Paul Frank store in Chicago the other day so expect to see A LOT more of Julius on their upcoming tour FOB is heading out on the road to meet up with Punchline Catch 22 and Bigwig at the end of the month. The dates are at www.falloutboyrock.com and www.fueledbyramen.com.

International Noise Conspiracy Supporting AFI - The International Noise Conspiracy will be supporting AFI from March 25 to April 22. This AFI tour is shaping up to be another one of those "SUPER" tours with Thursday already getting added to the bill a week or so ago.

Moments in Grace (ex As Friends Rust) With New Album - Moments in Grace is a Florida four-piece comprised of ex-members of As Friends Rust and Two-Thirty Eight. Moments in Grace's are currently working on their forthcoming full-length CD (due out Spring/Summer 2004). Produced by heavyweight indie rock producer, Brian Mcternan (Thrice, Hot Water Music, Cave In) the These Days Will Fade EP also serves as an introduction to McTernan's new label, Salad Days Records, named after his celebrated east coast recording studio.

Moments in Grace will be playing a special sold-out benefit show with Thrice at the House of Blues in West Hollywood, CA on December 17th. Proceeds from the show will go to the Syrentha J. Savio Endowment, (SSE) which provides chemotherapy and other medication for individuals who cannot afford the expense. Since its formation by well-known DC hardcore photographer Mark Beemer in February of 2002 (after losing his wife Syrentha to breast cancer), the endowment has raised over $72,000 through National Races for the Cure, charity concerts, auctions, and dinners. The members of Moments in Grace formed a close personal bond with Beemer while recording their album.

Look for the band to play select dates throughout the rest of the year. In early 2004, Moments in Grace will open for Avenged Sevenfold on a string of west coast dates (see below). This will be followed by a stint as an opener on Thrice's upcoming headlining U.S. tour (dates to be announced shortly.)

Guttermouth Finishing New Album + To Join Warped Tour - From Guttermouth: Just so you know we are about ¾ of the way done with our next CD. Just so you know, it is punk. Not punk by MTV2 terms, but punk like Musical Monkey style. I have been on a roll with my sarcasm as of late and can't wait for the free MP3's on this site. We will play 2 of these songs I am referring to on the 28th. Dec. 28th will be loud, obnoxious, and back to the roots of where this band started. So I hope to see you all there. Well, I will see you because I will be passing out tickets at the door and then passing out backstage after the show. So, if you win some of these items and get backstage one of you might have to drive me home cuz I plan of having a few pre New Years Eve drinks. And I hope you do as well. Oh yea, I will burn a few rough tracks of the new stuff and give em' out to some of you. Maybe like 6 or 5 copies or something. Hey we go on tour in CO, WY, and UT in Jan. Then we hit the road with Pennywise for a bunch of east coast and mid west dates. Then we are going on this years WARP Tour Yep...full article here.

White Stripes And Von Bondies In Punch-up - White Stripes frontman Jack White has brutally beaten-up Von Bondies singer Jason Stollsteimer at a gig in Detroit on the weekend. According to a statement from Von Bondies management this is what happened. "While attending a show at the Magic Stick nightclub in Detroit with his wife and two female members of his band The Von Bondies on Saturday December 13, 2003 Jason Stollsteimer was violently attacked by Jack White of the White Stripes without warning or provocation" they say.

Von Bondies claim White started the fracas. "White approached Stollsteimer during the concert, physically forcing him against the speakers and began shouting. Stollsteimer attempted to turn his head and face White, but refused to engage in conversation. Visibly angered by Stollsteimer's unwillingness to argue or fight, White spat into Stollsteimer's face and punched him in the head and face repeatedly. White then forced Stollsteimer to the ground and continued to attack until White was restrained by several crowd members".

The Von Bondies singer needed medical attention. "Stollsteimer was rushed by ambulance to Detroit Emergency Receiving Center for treatment. Stollsteimer has been released and is recovering from the attack at his home".

White Stripes record label V2 have confirmed a punch-up. Their statement reads "Jack White was involved in a barroom altercation over the weekend in Detroit. Jack White defended himself as any normal person would have under the circumstances".

Charges against White are being considered by Stollsteimer.

UPDATE: These are photos of Von Bondies lead singer Jason Stollsteimer after the alleged brawl between him and White Stripes lead singer Jack White. Stollsteimer's manager, Rick Canny, supplied the photos in an effort to support his claim that White attacked him Saturday night at the Magic Stick club on Woodward.

It’s knot true about Turbonegro - Rumors have been going on for a couple of days that Norwegian Death-Punks Turbonegro have split up. This is NOT true. Apparently, a lot of people somehow believe that the article in Norwegian Newspaper VG published 1998 is a new article, which it’s not. This article informed about their previous split-up back in 1998 but the band re-formed in 2002 and has been going strong ever since with no plans of splitting up again.

Turbonegro's Happy Tom would like to state that "We did not know that the band had dissolved. That the members of the band are personally dissolving is on the other hand no secret to anyone".

Happy Tom advises everyone to check their sources a little bit better next time, before publishing their obituary (burningheart.com).
