Duane's Pit Stop

Hello and welcome back to another Duane’s Pit Stop. As for this week's news in regards to Punk we have more rather sad news on bands that are breaking up. But we have new bands being signed by some major labels. We also have some tour dates. I want to add that if you look above this actual web page, you will see some album covers of music that I’m currently listening to this week. At times, htey will be new stuff and some times old but it’s all good. If you would like for me to check out your band or music in general, send me an e-mail at dkeyva@musictap.net and I will make it a point to check it out. With that being said, lets do what we do best and get to the news.

Thursday, Thrice and Coheed Show To Benefit San Diego - A portion of the proceeds of the Thrice/Thursday show in San Diego will benefit the San Diego Fire Relief Fund. Island Records will match the donation made by Thrice and Thursday as well. To find out how you can help read the official stuff.

It's Not All Goodbye - On a less despondent note, with the end of some other bands' lives come the start of another. Giving NYHC a new (kick in the) face, Rag Men will have an album out on Eulogy Recordings early in 2004. Check out the band's site to download a track and take a look at the members; you'll recognize names from Madball, Skarhead, Merauder, Earth Crisis, Freya, and Hatebreed. Heads up for their new stuff coming soon.

It's been fun, boys.

Forstella Ford Call It Quits - Wisconsin's underground hardcore extraoirdinaires Forstella Ford have announced that they have decided to call it quits as a band. The band had previously been on a "hiatus" until early October when they announced they had (seemingly) worked out their problems. The band formed in Milwaukee around 1997 and had released 4 full lengths, the most recent being Well Versed In Deception, out on Onedaysavior Records.

Karl Alvarez Joins All Systems Go! - It's now official that Karl Alvarez (of All/Descendents fame) has joined forces with All Systems Go! The band will get together in LA later this month to start playing some new material as well as rehearsing for a full U.S. tour early next year! Karl, who's replacing Thom D'Arcy, is an awesome bass player and has also written a lot of incredible songs for All & Descendents over the years.

Fat Mike's Punkvoter.com Gets Coverage From CNN.com - Would a plea from the lead singer of "Anti-Flag," "Bouncing Souls," "Frenzal Rhomb" or "Sick Of It All" get you to turn out and vote in the 2004 presidential election? Probably not if you're a mainstream music fan downloading the latest tune from Britney Spears. But, if you're an avid young punk music lover, it just might do the trick...

Love Me Destroyer: Black Heart Affair - Love Me Destroyer’s debut album Black Heart Affair will be in stores today Tuesday November 4th. I urge everyone to either pick up a copy at their favorite indie shop or order it directly from the fine folks at www.suburbanhomerecords.com.

“Black Heart Affair” features 13 powerful songs from ex members of Pinhead Circus and Jedi 5. Here is an excerpt from a recent review

“Love Me Destroyer is the new incarnation of Pinhead Circus the much-loved outfit that spent ten years belting out its brand of catchy heartfelt punk rock. But where Pinhead Circus once cast a youthful almost happy-go-lucky glow on its anguish and anger Love Me Destroyer has completely given in to the Dark Side.” – Westord.

If you are a fan of Thrice Hot Water Music Rise Against Lifetime and/or Andrew WK you should give this album a listen. You will be glad you did. Stop by www.suburbanhomerecords.com to read a few reviews and to check out some mp3s.

Under the Influence Release Series - Suburban Home is very excited to share with you a new release series entitled “Under the Influence”. The idea behind “Under the Influence” is that we will get some of our favorite bands and ask them to record covers of the songs that have most influenced their songwriting. And then we will ask them to write about why these songs mean so much to them in the liner notes. First on the list is Stereotyperider who have put together an incredible list of songs. We asked them to do 7 songs 6 of which they picked themselves:

1. Pixies – “Where is my mind?”
2. Fugazi – “Styrofoam”
3. Archers of Loaf – “The lowest part is free”
4. Seaweed - “Crush us all”
5. The Cure – “Jumpin' someone else's train”
6. Descendents – “Coolidge”

For the seventh song we asked Stereotyperider to pick 5 songs that they would be willing to do and we are asking all of you to vote on which song you would most like to see Stereotyperider record. Here are the list of songs to choose from:

1. Quicksand – “Lie and wait”
2. Agent Orange – “Everything turns gray”
3. Weezer – “Suzanne”
4. Ned's Atomic Dustbin – “Grey cell green”
5. Helmet – “Give it”

They are asking for everyone to stop by their messageboards at ht www.suburbanhomerecords.com and vote on the song that you would most like to see Stereotyperider do. They will tabulate the votes during the next two weeks and will announce which song was voted on the most. After the song has been selected Stereotyperider will go into the studio to record what will be an incredible ep. The ep will be in stores in early March. Don’t forget to check out Stereotyperider’s debut album “Same Chords Same Songs Same Six Strings.” Future “Under the Influence” CD eps will be recorded by such great acts as Planes Mistaken for Stars Mike Park and the Gamits.. www.suburbanhomerecords.com.
