Hey, welcome back to another Pit Stop. Damn, we're already into October. We only have three months left in the year. Damn, that means their is plenty of Beer and Gigs to see by year's end. So what are you waiting for? Go get you a cold one and come back here to read the rest of this column………………Okay, you're back already. Sweet. This week we have tons of info on various bands as well new tour dates for your local bands. (BEER-BREAK Slurp--ahhhh).
I also wanted to take the time to respond to one of the readers, Katie from Omaha, Nebraska who is a concerned parent and who is claiming that her two young teenagers have become a menace since listening to Punk Rock music. She also adds that I shouldn’t promote Punk Music in general. Well Katie from Nebraska, I don’t claim to have the answers but I can add that for me back in the 80s, the concern amongst parents, including mine, was Heavy Metal Music for what the lyrics had depicted with its Satanic overtones. On the same token, I was able to differ what was reality and what wasn't. In the end, this old boy and my generation did well. Unfortunately, every ten years a new generation emerges with even more shocking values. But do remember this Katie, that the poster children of the music industry of the 80s that were supposed to be straight arrow clean, people like Michael Jackson, Boy George, Madonna and George Michael..well, look at the obscurity and what has become of those individuals since. I just hope history doesn’t repeat itself again with this new breed of entertainers. Take care Katie and good luck. Now off to the news.
Joe Strummer & the Mescaleros - Joe Strummer's final artistic work, "Streetcore" will be out on October 21st, and we are streaming two full songs on the website. Hit the link below to check out streams for "Coma Girl" and "Get Down Moses."

Take A Listen To The Ghost - New Jersey emocore boys Ghost of a Tragedy have announced that new mp3's have been posted at their mp3.com page, found here. The band will be hitting the studio in the next few months to record their upcoming EP that is still yet to be named. Details are in the works. In the meantime, the band will be playing shows throughout Jersey, so check the Ghost of a Tragedy site for dates and details.
The Plan For 504plan - Chicago rockers 504plan have all sorts of things going on. First, the band has a new EP coming out. The disc can be preordered online at their site, 504plan.net. The EP, entitled Minutia will be a six-song disc, and can be previewed at their mp3.com site. Additionally, a new store has been set up, so head over and take a look at all of the things the band is brewing.
What'll Throwdown Throw At You? - Throwdown is getting ready to shoot the new video for their next single, but with one major problem. They don't have a song to shoot for. Seeing as the track is a vital part in the video making process (duh, asshole), this is where you come in. If you head over to the band's site, you can choose your favourite song from their new album, Haymaker, to be the next single. If you're slow and haven't yet heard anything off of the album, check out "You Can't Kill Integrity from the disc at that link, or "Hopeless" at that one. Get involved and pick what you want to see from the band.
Everything Under Sunday's Sun - Though Taking Back Sunday, new lineup and all, are out in full gear on tour with Moneen and headliners Saves The Day, they've still got time to sit down and answer a few obscure questions with Jane of EmotionalPunk.com. If you're curious about the future of TBS, what they think of major labels, Queer Eye For The Straight Guy, and everything else under the sun or if you are just a big fan of "knock-knock" jokes, you should take a look at the feature. Hit this link to read up.
Is Green Day Networking? - Have Green Day recorded a new album under a pseudonym? There's a new band on Billie Joe Armstrong's Adeline label called The Network and they sound remarkably like … um, you can listen for yourself at label website www.adelinerecords.net. According to the label, The Network "are extremely mysterious and never show their faces to humans or cameras. The members hail from all corners of the world and were brought together by an ancient prophecy, which predicted their rise to world power and eventually their demise".
The Network just released their debut album Money Money 2020 through Adeline this week but you have to head to the Adeline website to get it.
The blurb at the site says "Astonishingly amazing debut full-length from this exceedingly mysterious new group. THE NETWORK presents an electronic, post-punk experience in sound and fury, with strong robotic and mechanical overtones. Their new-wave futuristic chaos gives nods to the likes of ADAM & THE ANTS, DEVO, PUBLIC IMAGE LTD., and PETER MURPHY. With monikers like The Snoo, Fink, and Van Gogh, THE NETWORK has formed an anomalous synthesis of pop and sarcastic social commentary. This is a record you cannot afford to miss. Also includes a DVD with 6 full-length music videos".
That's not a band first effort for an unsigned band on an indie label now is it? Or is it? (undercovermedia.com.au)
It seems Hopesfall just can't get a break - Only weeks after their practice space was broken into, the bands new equipment, van, trailer, and merch were all stolen while on a stop in Dallas. The Trustkill site had this to say, "Anyone who has any information leading to the people who would do such a thing are urged to notify them, and information relating to the North Carolina case [where their practice space is located] should call the Pineville Police at 704-889-2231, ask for Sgt. Owens.
If you see or hear of anyone selling/pawning/trading a baby blue "Orange County" drumkit, let us know, it is a special made kit and is one of a kind. They also are missing their Marshall Cabs, Mesa Triple Rectifiers, Laney Cabs, and tons of other stuff. Those of you in North Carolina and Texas, especially be on the look out for this stuff." Hopesfall will continue their tour with The Juliana Theory playing on TJT's equipment and borrowing a van. A PayPal fund has been set up for those who would like to donate. You can donate to the fund at the Trustkill site http://www.trustkill.com/.

Descendents Album Update - The Descendents will return in March with a new album, their seventh and first since 1996. After seven years off, the band was finally able to lure vocalist Milo Aukerman away from his science job. "He works on trying to make corn grow more efficient says drummer Bill Stevenson. "And we write a lot of songs about food, so that just fits in with us perfectly."
Food songs on the upcoming record include "Blast Off" -- "about having a bad chili-related incident in the bathroom," Stevenson says -- and "Anchor Grill," about "responsibilities taking the fun out of life."
There are also some new facets to the material, recorded live at the band's Blasting Room studio in Colorado: "Maddie" is an adventurous bit of surf rock with multiple harmonies. "It operates in I don't even know how many keys," Stevenson says. "It almost sounds Schoenbergish or Bartokish in that your can never predict where the tonic sensor will fall next."
And according to Stevenson, another new track called "Alive" sounds like "the Screaming Trees playing a Doors song."
Stevenson and his high school buddy Aukerman made their debut as the Descendents with a send-off, 1981's Milo Goes to College, and their recording schedule has been sporadic ever since then. "I've adopted a 'I really don't care what everyone thinks' kind of attitude," Stevenson says. "I don't know if it's just because I had my fortieth birthday or what" (source: Rollingstone.com / Punknews.org).

The Offspring Drummer Update - The Offspring have announced that drummer Atom Willard will be touring with the band starting this fall as they head out in support of their new album 'Splinter'. Atom was in Rocket From The Crypt for 10 years and more recently played with Moth, the the Alkaline Trio and Melissa Auf Der Maur.
Less Than Jake Tour Dates + Recording Of X-mas Compilation – From the Less Than Jake newsletter: So in true Less Than Jake fashion it's a few days until we leave for two months of touring and we're in Rogers house recording an x-mas song for a compilation when we should be enjoying our beds and pets and local burrito place. Roger gets the MVP for putting in overtime to get it done on time. We're heading off to Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. Then we head home for a United States tour with Yellowcard, Rufio, and Fallout Boy. I'm Vinnie and this is Less Than Jake packing the same clothes we unpacked two weeks ago.
Here's the tour. Man it looks like we'll be missing all of fall and going right into winter. Hell at least we'll be home for Halloween and that's a huge plus in my book. I'll be buying toys in Japan like a madman that's a plus too.Check out the tour dates blow and have sympathy on our jetlagged asses.
