While this might seem an old subject by now, it is, in fact, a growing one. LPs. It seems that every time we post, there is guaranteed to be vinyl in there somewhere. That wasn't the case even in January of this year. But now, labels are looking into the vaults for albums to reissue as LPs, and new bands are issuing in LP more often than not. Vinyl is lovable right now.

The labels, all of them that issue older materials on new vinyl, have to gimmick it up a bit by insuring that most releases are at the heavy-grade 180g weight, or even 200g. That's a heavy record. But the fun thing is that vinyl is cool once again.

For years, vinyl was the way that many of us have listened to our music. We slotted them on shelves in numbers, we ogled the artwork, handled the jackets, put the needle to the groove. Many of us have fixated on the audio capablity of vinyl. But, no matter how your thinking is concerning vinyl, it is a rising star.

Of course, many of us really don't need to pay the exhorbitant prices that accompany new reissues of 180g vinyl. And pricey it is. Many titles have climbed upto the $30 mark, a bit high ( a lot) if you ask me. But much of the new releases are rather accessible with a decent price point. My newest acquisition was vinyl only (Band of Skulls). If it could be had in vinyl, I go that route exclusively. With the resurgence of record stores, there are plenty of used vinyl to go around. Since I started recollecting vinyl in an effort to regain what I gave up in the past, I have largely found much of what I had feared I wouldn't, even the rare stuff. Example: I located Mondo Deco by The Quick (a Fowley-produced all-boy band to match the successful all-girl band, the Runaways). There is plenty of vinyl out there.

Here's to the resurgence of vinyl. I love it! If you haven't come back to vinyl or if you haven't enjoyed it yet, then you should get onto the wagon. Turntables are climbing in value, there are LP shows everywhere with more vinyl then you can shake a stick at. And cheap, too! Don't dawdle.

I want to alert TAP readers to the fact that I have finally put together a FaceBook fan page that you can access and join by clicking on the badge below.  What this offers is the exact same thing as my Twitter feeds provide and that is first buzz on upcoming releases and free offered downloads, many announcements  that beat our main post, sometimes by days.  We also provide a Google BUZZ page that expands on most of the Twitter/FB feeds. On Buzz, you can even hear the music stream if a stream is offered.  There are still things that I'm working on in the FB page, like calender notes as well as links to great sites like The Second Disc.  I invite you to join us at our FB page and bookmark it.  Visit it daily and you'll be rewarded with much news and info.  Of course, you'll still want to come to the main MusicTAP page for our noisy commentaries.  Remember, with our Twitter feeds, you can elect to receive the news bursts as text on your mobile phone keeping you effortlessly up to date with stuff.  Lots of choices.  Find one, or two, that fits.
