Watch this and then I'll dive into my little say about this band. I'm betting that you've already seen this. But maybe you've been asking yourself, "Who is that?" Check it out:

The band is Band of Skulls and they originate from the UK ('natch). The song in the commercial is "Light Of The Morning." It has a healthy dose of Beatles familiarity encased within a rockin' track. But this song should not be used as a barometer on what the band is likely to sound like. That would be a mistake.

They are a quite a diverse band that has a lot going for them. Yes, I'm a tad late to the party...but that's often how it happens. You have your early adopters, those folks that are ears to the ground and know every emerging band and talent to put out a song. Then you have those that "discover" the band after hearing about them from others. Then a commercial comes around that features "the" song, or "the song" is in the opening or closing credits of a TV show or perhaps a theatrical film. And finally, usually a year later, there are those of us who hear the song from the commercial or film and we're instant fans. (Band of Skulls have nailed the trifecta with commercial (Mustang), TV series (Friday Night Lights), and film (Twilight: New Moon.) I happen to fall into that latter category for Band of Skulls. But it's better than catching on three albums from now.

Let me tell you what Band of Skulls bring to the gate: they can rock your socks from here to there. They have the Rock chops of a late '70s band, a bit Pop-Rock in some songs but that's Ok cuz they certainly have the talent for it. But then you get a bit deeper into the album (Baby Darling Doll Face Honey, released on March 20, 2009) and you quickly discover that the band can do more. This is evident on their "Honest" track, where the vocals are supplied by the female bassist, Emma Richardson. The song takes on a decidedly late '60s audio flavour not only in sound but in vibes. It's followed by the fun "Patterns," same voice.

The band's album has released five singles, all serious stuff. Frankly, if you asked me, "Honest" is screaming "single" and was never released as such. But I guess something has to be a B-side, right? The album is screaming for your attention and it would certainly be a silly shame if you ignored it. You can be 60, 50, or 20, and every age in between but I'd be surprised if you DIDN'T like anything off this album. One thing is for sure, you'll love "Impossible." Check it out. Check them all out!

I really like Band of Skulls. I really like Baby Darling Doll Face Honey. I really like their skillsets and ability to move around in sound.

I hope that you find them to your liking.
