Weekends...love 'em! Who's going to catch Shreck 2? Mrs TAP and I are going to try and hit the Arclight in LA with Bill Hunt and Mrs Bits for the movie. Wish us luck.

We promised you the lastest Marco Passarelli's 15 Minutes With... and we didn't disappoint. With this issue, Marco has interviewed Joe Satriani. As usual, Marco's time is well spent and is a great 15 minutes to share.

We'll have a review of Porcupine Tree's in absentia for DVD-Audio on Monday. The review is done by George Bennett and is commented by Dw and John Dunphy for extra padding. The album is great; the DVD-Audio by DTS even better. Come back and check it out.

I've had a few things to do today so I'm delaying the post for Pit Stop. Duane would have called me an inbred bastard anyway so guess I'm providing him reason. You'll want to see Pit Stop on Monday because I'm sure he'll rant me through Thursday!

And because I'm anxious to get out there (weekend, that is) we'll get right to the news.

A side note (again) to RonToon: I've lost everything dude...email me back with phone number and I'll call.

Til Monday...

Cheap Trick fans should be happy for the news that Big 3 Entertainment will release Silver, Cheap Trick's latest. This album will roll in on June 29. In addition, the Tricksters will have a DVD issued called From Tokyo to You on June 15.

Aezra Records will release the newest Robin Trower issue, Go My Way, on June 29.

Southern Signal Records will release Skye Moore's I'm Flyin', on June 29.

Don't forget that David Bowie's Diamond Dogs will get the 30th Anniversary workover that has previously been bestowed upon earlier titles of his. You can expect Diamond Dogs on June 15 from Virgin Records. Also on June 15 is a Beach Boys title from Capitol Records called Sights and Sounds of Summer. I've mentioned both of these titles several months earlier but mention them again for a reminder. Oh, and some art work for you to gander at.

That Johnny Winter title in the end of the row of pictures is due on June 15. This album is from Virgin Records. I'm now ultra depressed because I just missed his show which was a few scant miles from my house. But luckily, I've seen him a few times before back in good ole 'sweet home' Chicago.

Virgin Records will release Back to Basics by Beenie Man in both edited and non-edited formats on July 13. This title has just been added to the schedule.

Those Megadeth reissues are rapidly approaching their July 27 shelf date. The titles are Countdown to Extinction; Cryptic Writings; Peace Sells ..But Who's Buying?; Risk; Rust in Peace; So Far, So Good..So What?!; and Youthanasia. A friendly reminder from Capitol.

September 21 is the scheduled date for new releases by Snoop Dogg (title unknown); Paula Adbul (title unknown); and Billy Squire (title unknown). There are also releases scheduled (same date) for The Music; Ice Cube; Pat Benatar; and Fischerspooner. There are more issues for Craig Chaquico (ex-Starship); Neville Brothers; Joss Stone; Federation (Federation); Fivespeed; and Ben Harper and The Blind Boys of Alabama. In addition, The Blind Boys of Alabama will have their Go Tell it On The Mountain album re-issued.

The 28th of Spetember will find titles from Sarah Brightman (Live); Everclear; Cherrelle (Best of Cherrelle); Bobby Darin (The Legendary Bobby Darin); Limit-21; and The Thrills.

There is a bummer date change for The anticipated The Band Box set that was expected on September 28. The new date is now extended to January 11 of bloody 2005.

Come back Monday for a whole lot more calendaring.

As we move along in the week we're moving closer to my comfort zone. I've reordered the first disc of MSOffice '03 and will have it pretty soon. Fortunately, I've had some stuff pre-done for the day and that makes it a whole lot easier.

In the WHOOPS department: I now have to make an apology. I have several email addresses that I have literally forgotten about largely due to being inundated with spam from them. Now, I've received emails that say some of the addresses are bouncing back. Sooo, I've checked and they're full to the gills...with spam and all your emails tucked in there underneath all that spam. I've deleted all the emails thus putting the addresses back into play. I promise to be more alert to the newsflash and talk addresses. I realize that many of you talked to MusicTAP in that way and it feels as if I've ignored you. We're all fixed so talk again.

We have the promised Colin Cigarran interview. Colin fills a big role at Sony in the SA-CD department. His answers are fascinating and a great read. So hop right in.

We'll have a new 15 Minutes With...by Marco Passarelli that features some quality time spent with Joe Satriani on Friday so make sure you come back for that. We'll also have a few new reviews including a DVD-Audio review of Porcupine Tree's in absentia. This review is written by George Bennett and features extra commentary by Dw and John Dunphy. The overall effect is quite enlightening and provides you with a completely rounded evaluation of the title.

We have a lot of news so we'll dive right in.

A side note (again) to RonToon: I've lost everything dude...email me back with phone number and I'll call.

We'll be back on Friday with more.

We have word of a few country titles scheduled for November 9. Mercury Nashville has an untitled Terri Clark album in the pipeline while Dreamworks Nashville will issue an untitled (for now) release for Toby Keith.

Gabrielle Drake, sister to the wonder British songster, Nick Drake, has contributed a recorded song thought to be Drake's last. The song, "Tow the Line", is being included in an album of 13 rarities and remixes called Made to Love Magic. "Tow the Line" was found after a streaming take of "Hanging on a Star." This album will feature songs from multi-tracks that were originally released in mono and included on a bonus rarities disc, Time of No Reply, found in the Fruit Tree Box Set in 1986. Those songs were remixed into true stereo for the first time. Two additional tracks are from personal recordings of known songs, "River Man" and "Mayfair." Made to Love Magic will be available on July 22 from Island Records.

A couple of planned 20th Century Masters: Millennium Collection releases are on the schedules for Pointer Sisters (Hip-O Records - July 20) and Spanky and Our Gang (Mercury Records - October 12.)

Varese Sarabande has two Zombies titles on the slate for July 22 (I Love You - new '04) and July 29 (Odessey & Oracle - 1968).

Sanctuary has scheduled a DVD for Utopia on July 27. The DVD will be called Live in Boston:1982. Details as soon as they become available.

I thought that I would start the day out with a bit of social commentary but decided to keep it under my hat. It has to do with the Michael Moore film that is..uh, under wraps, so to speak. The material in it is supposed to be incredibly rich with lapses and inproprieties and well, it's still looking for a distributor. with an upcoming election, it could prove to be tide-changing, or so I'm led to believe. Now, I don't doubt the content is damning and I'm sure the film is quite enlightening but I'm getting the feeling that profiteering is the name of the game here. Out.

I got to sit in a limited production of Pontiac's newest re-issue, the GTO. This car is stickered at $33,000 and is sold above sticker at around $7,000. If anyone wants to help ME get one of these babies ( I admittedly have a GTO fixation / obsession), I'll set up a PayPal account. Of course, I jest. But not about the car. It's really nice.

We got a slate here for you and so we'll just jump right in. The PC work is moving along nicely and would be further along if I could only locate a first disc of the lates MS Office. So I get to revert back to the earlier version which doesn't do a trick that I've grown fond of. But what do we have?

Well, two reviews to start out with. We start with John Dunphy's listen of In Flames' Soundtrack To Your Escape. Check out his thoughts on the album. I've also paid rapt attention to Patti Smith's latest, trampin'. What did I think of it? I've also included in this column some notes from Dw Dunphy that I believe that you'll enjoy. Tomorrow, we have an interview that we enjoyed with Colin Cigarran of Sony Music - SA-CD Division. It makes for a great read and will be here tomorrow. We have our usual batch of new release info as well. We also have a new 15 Minutes With... from Marco Passarelli that features an interview with Joe Satriani.

Other news and side notes: (Dw Dunphy)

As announced on the site www.GBV.com , Guided By Voices’ last album entitled “Half-Smiles Of The Decomposed” will be issued in August, ending what was one of the most prolific and consistently entertaining indie bands of all time. With a bizarre sense of wordplay and an uncanny sense of melody and rock-smarts, Robert Pollard and various crew turned do-it-yourself into a near-legendary discography. I’m going to miss my yearly dose of GBV.

Special guests appearing on Porcupine Tree’s forthcoming release, still in recording stages, will be Opeth’s Mikael Akerfeldt and King Crimson’s guitar rhino Adrian Belew.

Speaking of the Crims, they’re back in studio, prepping for a new round of recording. The lineup will once again be Robert Fripp, Belew, Pat Mastelotto and Trey Gunn.

Those psychotic Swirling Eddies are offering a pre-order for their forthcoming return to the spotlight. Lead swirler Camarillo Eddy is in the writing stages and the line-up for recording will depend on availability, as the band has scattered to the four corners of the country. However, it is likely that Arthur Fhardy and Gene Pool will be back and will loom large over the preceedings. For more info and a shot at your pre-order, visit www.danielamos.com, wherein you’ll catch all the vitals.

My brother-in-law Rob, kindred spirit and all-around good guy, lent me his DVD set of the “Best Of Music from Saturday Night Live” and, let me tell you all, this is digital sweetness in plastic form. You get all the important stuff here: Elvis Costello’s impromptu switch into “Radio Radio”, Paul Simon attempting to sing “Still Crazy After All These Years” in a turkey suit, Sinead O’Connor’s infamous tearin’ o’ the Pope, Eddie Murphy in James Brown’s Celebrity Hot Tub Party, Steve Martin doing “King Tut”, the Blues Brothers…! About all that’s missing is Nirvana’s shocking meltdown after “Territorial Pissings”, and I probably could have done without Duran Duran doing “Hungry Like The Wolf”, but as the kids are wont to say – it’s all good. If you have plunkable cash, this could make for you a nice, nostalgic evening.

A side note (again) to RonToon: I've lost everything dude...email me back with phone number and I'll call.

Come back tomorrow for a sizeable update including some Cure news.

Sanctuary Records with their Rough Trade imprint will issue Blueberry Boat, a new CD from The Fiery Furnaces on July 13. Sanctuary also has an EP on the schedule for Hurricane Party's Get This, which is now expected on August 10. Get This was earlier scheduled for June 22. I'm a little anxious to hear this British export myself.

Imusic Records will release Lemona by Giant Drag as an enhanced CD and is expected on August 10. This label also has an enhanced CD from Layton called Grand Design which is on the calendar for July 27. Imusic will release a Richard Swift title, The Novelist, on July 27.

Robbins will issue Trance Party (Volume 4) from The Happy Boys on July 13.

J Records has a 'best of' on the list for Annie Lennox which should be pretty good. The album, Greatest Hits, does not have a release date attached but at least you know it's in production. We'll keep you informed on this title.

J Records with Octone Records will issue an acoustic EP for Maroon 5 with the title to be determined before the release date of June 29.

Ahhhh, here we go again. J Records announced Volume 3 of Rod Stewart's Great American Songbook for October 19. Volume Four, Five, and Six should be following at yearly intervals. Of course, I'm just kidding but it's getting a little bit old at this point. Whatever 'appened to early post-Faces Rod? I want some more of those. All apologies to those who are excited by this bit of news. It's just me.

Zomba Records and Jive Records have a 'best of' on the list for Billy Ocean called The Ultimate Collection. This is expected on July 13. Zomba will team with Volcano amd BMG Heritage for a Survivor compilation called Ultimate Survivor. This Survivor issue will contain 18 tracks including their "Eye of the Tiger" as well as a few bonus tracks like a previously unreleased original version of "Rockin' Into the Night" made popular by .38 Special but first recorded by Survivor, and a rare cut of "Rebel Girl." This Survivor issue will street on July 13.

RCA will issue Sahara Hot Nights' issue, Kiss and Tell, on July 27.

Windup Records will issue a debut for Strata, a self-titled release, on July 27.

J Records will release a new Ruben Studdard gospel album on October 12 with the title yet to be determined.

I promised some update on some cool DVD Collection titles but now I can't find them. But they are coming. When I relocate the DVD info that I jabbered about yesterday, I'll let you know. Sorry 'bout that.

May 17, 2004

Nothing like rebuilding a computer and re-populating it with all the tools necessary to put out a website. The bummer is that I've misplaced some of my discs and therefore don't have the complete tools to do all the stuff. I do expect to be back to full regalia tomorrow. We're so backlogged that it will take me forever to bring it all back under control. But, here we go anyway.

Strangely enough, the new releases info has been rather silent...as if they knew I was out of commission, hmmm. Of course, we're kidding; I asked them to hold until I got back up. Just kidding again, but it sure is sloooowww. But hey, the PC is back to being snappy, the software is being put back in slowly but surely, and the guys of TAP have a whole batch of reviews and stuff just waiting for it all to come together.

We're experiencing some curious subtle changes in some of the software that makes it more difficult to accomplish some things that we did everyday such as anchoring older posts. We can still apply anchor tags but we can't automatically resize the window to link 'em. But it's coming.

As an aside and on a personal note, I've been thinking a lot about Leonard Cohen lately and I find myself hoping for some new material from him. His last, Ten New Songs, was a 5-star affair and will last forever. Just a note.

A side note (again) to RonToon: I've lost everything dude...email me back with phone number and I'll call.

Let's see what we got...
