March 03, 2004

Happy nice middle of the week for you.

Mrs TAP has got me helping her clean everything in preparation for our company coming so that keeps me quite occupied. However, I took some time off to review the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack for The Passion of the Christ. And folks, this music is pretty captivating. George Bennett and Lindsey Planer will be here very soon with reviews of Los Lonely Boys [Bennett] and The Mavericks DVD-Audio of their last album [Planer].

For now, enjoy what we have that's coming to you in the way of CDs. Which brings me to a question. Would you folks like to have me put all these releases that I acknowledge everyday in an easy to read, downloadable Excel sheet? It would take me a bit of time but it could be done without too much trouble. Interested?

See you when I can get back in here. But don't worry, I'll be back.

Jimi Hendrix fans will get two CDs from the master. BBC Sessions, Volume 1 and BBC Sessions, Volume 2 will street on the same day which is April 27. These two releases will hail from Experience Hendrix Recordings.

Hip-O Records (another favourite of mine) will re-issue Rickie Lee Jones' Ghostyhead on August 10. and I like RLJ.

Hip-O will also release a 20th Century Masters album for Rita Marley on May 18. They'll do the same for Bob Marley and The Wailers on April 20.

I've heard tell as a whisper that Can't Buy a Thrill might end up in the SACD format after all. Keep your fingers crossed.

Motown has a Stevie Wonder album in the works for May 11. The album will be named A Time 2 Love.

And Hip-O doesn't quit on us... They have a Willie Nelson album called Songs coming to us on August 10.

Ahhh, we're all nice and better. It's always a matter of days anyway. Nice to be back in the land of the feelgoods.

The news is rather slow today so we'll let you in on what we know.

There's some calendared SACD releases coming from Universal with Steely Dan and Godsmack. Check those out if you don't already know about them.

We'll see you tomorrow with stuff before we slip to slow. We have a lotta good CD stuff for you like Jimi Hendrix, Lucinda Williams, Rickie Lee Jones, Stevie Wonder, and more.

Windham Hill has informed us of a 'best of' for Jim Brickman. This album is expected on May 4.

RCA Records has scheduled Charlotte Martin's On Your Shore for June 22.

J Records' previously scheduled Silvertide album, Show & Tell, will be moved to June 8.

Gene Simmon's upcoming Asshole, in both PA and Edited forms will also be rescheduled until May 18. There are some interesting facts on this issue. The first is, of course, the fact that this is the KISS bassman first solo album in 20 some years after his 1978 release of the Casablanca classic, Gene Simmons. This Sanctuary release will feature a co-written song, "Waiting For The Morning Light", assisted by Bob Dylan. Surprising. Another song, "Black Tongue", contains music by Simmons assisted by Frank Zappa. So Zappa completists, take note!

J Records will issue Angie Stone and her Stone Love album on June 8. It will also be released in LP format as well.

Legacy and Columbia will release a 'best of' for Dave Edmunds on April 20. That's a cool one.

Legacy and Columbia will join together to release an Essential title for Gary Puckett and The Union Gap on April 27.

Shout! Factory (I love these guys) will issue a 'best of' for Lee Michaels. Now this may require a stretch of time for some of you. His "Do You Know What I Mean" is still a favourite tune of mine from the yesteryears of rock. Hello: The Very Best of Lee Michaels will land in stores on April 27.

Epic will release Los Lonely Boys' self-titled album on March 30. Our George Bennett is in the middle of reviewing this album for readers sometime this week. Watch for it.

Our favourite rock artist, Patti Smith is back on the schedules with her upcoming Columbia release, Trampin'. It will street on April 27 and will also be made available as an LP. Mark it on your calendars.

Columbia Records will issue Start Trouble's Every Solution Has Its Problem on March 23.

Godsmack and their The Other Side will be issued on SACD come May 4.

Here's an exciting piece of catalog news. How about some Steely Dan SACD issues? Yeah? How about a whole bunch of 'em? On June 22, MCA will unleash the following Steely Dan titles for SACD:

  • Aja
  • Countdown to Ecstasy
  • Katy Lied
  • Pretzel Logic
  • The Royal Scam

Where the deuce is Can't Buy a Thrill? That's the one I want. [03/02]

The Wallflowers' Red Letter Days, as a Hybrid SACD makes it back onto the calendar for an April 27 street date. [02/25]

Hey...we got us a new SACD to announce. On April 6, you'll be able to purchase Dangerously in Love, the 2003 release from Beyonce. This will issue as a Hybrid MultiChannel. A release like this is juts what is necessary to help push the format, no doubt. Good call, Columbia, good call.

Jive Records will release R.Kelly's Chocolate Factory as a DVD-Audio on April 20 as well as Britney Spear's In the Zone on April 20. [02/24]

Jackson Browne's delayed DVD-Audio of Running on Empty gets what is seemingly the final date for it's release. The new date is April 20. The 5.1 Surround mix will be available in 96kHz/24bit while the Stereo mix will be available in a spacious 192kHz/24bit. Also on the set will be over 300 photos and a 10-minute instrumental medley as bonuses. Browne's The Naked Ride Home is still expected to become available as a DVD-Audio as well, perhaps on the same day since it is not long after Jackson Browne's induction into the Hall of Fame. [02/23]

Queensryche's upcoming, The Art of Live will be changed to April 20. Sanctuary had this scheduled for April 6 so change your calendars. This DVD will be made available in both amaray and jewel casings.

REM's upcoming DVD concert film, Perfect Square, expected on March 16 is done in PCM Stereo and Dolby Digital 5.1. The film features 23 songs including 2 brand new songs, "Bad Day" and "Animal." The concert was filmed in 2003 at Bowling Green in Germany and is approximately 105 minutes in length. There is a bonus documentary, "A Stirling Performance" that details the band's Scotland appearance in 2000 during the UP tours.

It's been a while since we've made a post here but we're told that Maroon 5's Songs About Jane will be released in LP form on April 20. This will come from J Records' Octone. [03/02]

March 01, 2004

And wouldn't you know it...the cold is STILL here. And it's been giving me 'off again..on again' fits. Again, health is in two blue coloured tabs that are good for about 6 hours.

We have a review today from George Bennett. He's listened to (finally someone reviews this one) Damien Rice's excellent O. Watch for our Capsule Reviews to start up very very soon. We're going to start using it frequently here to help alleviate the flow of music and to insure that we can get the word out on the music we get.

Welcome to March. We're nearing the end of the first quarter and preparing for the reporting of 2nd quarter releases. Let's hope that we get lots more hi-rez releases coming our way.

We'll be back tomorrow. As a notice, we have folks coming from out of town and so will be slow on data releases over the next week beginning on March 3 and going through March 10. We will have stuff for you on many of those days, however. But if we miss a day or two, you'll know why.

Capitol Records moves the upcoming Pink Floyd reissue of The Final Cut, their last with conceptual cornerstone, Roger Waters, to the new date of May 4.

Also on May 4, Liberty Records releases a title that we touched on a few months back. I bring it up as a reminder for fans of Kenny Rogers. Kenny Rogers: 40 Ultimate Hits should be on your calendar if this is what you have been waiting for.

Blue Note Records will issue 3 Various Artists collections on May 4. The collections will be Blue Note Plays Bacharach; Blue Note Plays Stevie Wonder; and Blue Note Plays The Beatles.

Capitol will be doing a huge run of a 'best of' for George Thorogood called Greatest Hits: 30 Years of Rock. This one comes out on May 18.

The title for our anticipated Johnny Winter album coming from Virgin Records is I'm a Bluesman and will street on June 15.

Here's a bit of news that we'll touch on later as the date gets closer. There is a new Fischerspooner, as yet untitled, coming to stores in July, tentatively on the 13th from Capitol Records. Additionally, Capitol will also release a new Otep in July.

The Maverick release of the soundtrack for Volume 2 of Kill Bill will be released on April 13.

For those fans anxiously awaiting the release of the long overdue Black Box from Black Sabbath, I believe that your wait is near an end. Sources tell me that we can expect this one on April 24. This is an 8CD / 1DVD issue that we have already detailed quite extensively some time back. I believe that this is the final date so pencil in with confidence.
