Hey everybody! We getting ready to pop into the weekend...again. But I love them. And I sure do need one this week. It's been quite a stressful week so I'm just going to unwind in this one. But, you don't wanna hear about that. You came for the news. And we have a little to carry you into the weekend especially a very exciting Talking Heads announcement.
We have our annual county fair beginning this week here in Orange County, CA. It's an event not gone unnoticed by some members of this household. Mrs TAP saves all her pennies the entire year just so that she can virtually live within the confines of the fairgrounds. I'm not kidding. She does a month long disappearing act with only brief forays home just to sleep and check in. But she's all excited. It's part of what summer is all about.
We have an interview with Erick Sanko of Skeleton Key that was conducted by Dw Dunphy. It's a splendid read for fans. We also have a few reviews for you with more coming on Monday including an interview with Pecattum provided by John Dunphy. Also on Monday, we have reviews for the upcoming July 27 releases of Herman's Hermits and their upcoming SA-CD issue of Retrospective by Abkco Records. Also, a review of The Animals SA-CD Retrospective by Abkco Records is also on the slate for Monday. Abkco is agressively revamping their catalog into the DSD realm allowing for spectacular sounding updates. I'm anxious for the SA-CD rework of Marianne Faithful's Greatest Hits that is in Abkco's vaults. So hit me with it. On Tuesday, we have a review of Brave's Passages EP. And there's more.
The review is by Lindsay Planer and is Laura Nyro's Spread Your Wings and Fly: Live at the Fillmore East, May 30, 1971.
There is no Duane's Pit Stop this week.
That's it...have a great weekend and we'll see you back here on Monday.

Last year, we heard that Rhino was finally..FINALLY..preparing an unreleased Talking Heads classic. Raise your hands if any of you remember the ultra cool The Name of This Band is The Talking Heads, a 2LP release (at least that what I think I remember it being) that spent a lot of time on my turntable and yours, I'm sure. Well, Rhino, in all their glorious splendour will issue this album on CD in time for August 17 to show up. But they will also issue The Best of The Talking Heads, which may be a pared down collection from the Once in a Lifetime Box (don't quote me on that). Regardless, it comes out on August 17.
Maverick has The Tracks of Tyler Hilton prepping for an August 17. Atlantic Records will release Moonlight Survived by Moments in Grace also on August 17.
Sire Records (where have you guys been?) will issue Soviet Kitsch by Regina Spektor on August 17.
In addition to the DVD that The Network has coming (see below), they also have a CD issue called Money Money 2020. Yep..August 17.
Atlantic has announced a release for Ryan Cabrera called Take it All Away on August 17.
Tearing off 7 calendar pages (August 24), we have releases from Bill Frisell (Unspeakable) from Nonesuch; The John Butler Trio with an EP (What You Want) coming from Lava Records; a live Jason Mraz issue (Tonight, Not Again: Jason Mraz Live at the Eagles Ballroom); a Dawn Upshaw release (Voices of Light), also from Nonesuch; and Laura Veirs (Carbon Glacier).
On August 31, Nonesuch will inch towards the Fall season with a John Adams release called On the Transmigration of Souls, and Bowmboi by Rokia Traore.
Rhino Home Video will release a DVD for Travis called Travis at the Palace which will be available on August 17. And from Reprise Video, The Network will release their Disease is Punishment, also on August 17.

We're looking at a few notes with one of the release pieces the upcoming live album from The White Stripes. Popping right in, we still have a batch of reviews by Dw Dunphy who covers all the bases with 8 reviews. He reviews Ray Wilson's The Next Best Thing; The New Year's The End is Near; Frameshift and their Unweaving the Rainbow; View by Bryan Beller; What More Else... by Vast Capital; Going Deaf for a Living by Razor Wire Shrine; The Cooper Temple Clause and their Kick Up the Fire and let the Flames Break Loose; and Avril Lavigne's Under the Skin.
Congratulations to Ben Nyman who has won our latest contest for the IQ - Dark Matter CD.
And so we hope that our next post will be quite fruitful. We'll see you on Friday with some reviews, an interview with Skeleton Key's Erik Sanko and more news. See you then.

V2 Records announced the addition to their schedules of The White Stripes 2CD Live album (as yet untitled) that will include a DVD. This White Stripes release will be issued on October 26. Mark your calendars. I'm willing to bet this comes out on LP as well.
If you were planning to pick up the Jennifer Warnes Platinum & Gold issue by Arista today, let me tell you where it isn't. This title has been recalled and therefore will not grace your store shelves. We'll let you know when it returns to the schedule lineup.
RMG / Ato Records announces the next Gov't Mule album to be released on September 14. The new album will be called Deja Voodoo. We'll keep you posted.
Dreamworks is cooking up an untitled album for John Fogerty which is expected to street on September 28.
Oh, I couldn't resist this one. Universal South is releasing an album by Cherry Bombs with the unlikely title of It's Hard to Kiss the Lips Each Night That Chew Your Ass Out All Day. This one comes out on July 27. I love it.
Epic Records will release Lamb of God's Ashes of the Wake in both LP and CD formats on August 31.
Legacy Records will issue The Music by Michael Jackson on September 7. We'll keep an eye out for that one for fans of MJ.

Legacy and Columbia have a live album for Toad the Wet Sprocket coming on August 31. The live album will be called Welcome Home: Live at the Arlington Theatre, Santa Barbara 1992.
The Wishbone Ash Orchestral project has been cancelled. What this means is that the band and Classic Rock Productions will not proceed with the scheduled attempt to turn Wishbone Ash songs into their orchestral counterpart. We'll miss the project and hope that it eventually comes to fruition. We have heard that there are some folks that are being nasty on the Wishbone Ash websites. C'mon folks!

Shout! Factory will issue a Joni Mitchell DVD title on August 24. The video will be Refuge of the Roads, her second video release. More to follow.

It's back to the grindstone, as they say. Our return is short today because there is little to report. There are a set of capsules to post but after that it's quiet. It may get better as the week progresses and the labels gear up to the 3rd and 4th quarter release schedules, but for now, we're just going to give what we have.
We have a winner for the IQ - Dark Matter CD contest. First and correctly answered questions came from reader Ben Nyman. Congratulations Ben.
We have received a lot of mail concerning the iPod after we posted info on a trade-in and of the upcoming Sony issue. The mail varied quite a bit but the most useful one that we received came from reader Blaine Gillander. He pointed to the website www.ipodbattery.com which takes you to a 'laptops for less' site. From there, you can order an appropriate battery for your model. The site also provides instructions on replacing the battery yourself. If anyone has done this, please get back with us and let us know how it fared. Thanks Blaine.
We have a batch of reviews by Dw Dunphy who covers all the bases with 8 reviews.
We have some big changes coming in the not too distant future. Now is a great chance for you to help shape our direction. Tell us what you want us to keep, what we can dispense with, and what we can add. We'll take all things into consideration as we move forward with a new look (It ain't me this time...we went pro for a change) and an evolved direction.

Shout! Factory will release a V/A album with the title Magic Moments: The Best of 50s Pop on August 10. Here's a look at the art:

Big 3 Entertainment has alerted us to the following adds and changes to their schedule. They are a TBD titled work for 6Twenty as well as a TBD title work for Juliette. Babyface Ed will release their Straight Lace No Chase as well. All of these releases are scheduled for September 7.
Angel Records is preparing a big run of the upcoming Anita Baker album, My Everything, scheduling its distribution for September 7.
September 21 will bring an Limited Edition of Norah Jones' Feels Like Home. We don't have the scoop yet but when we acquire it, we'll let you know. Just added is a combo package, Feels Like Home, with CD, DVD, and Limited Edtion bonuses will be released on October 19.
There's a new Keith Urban title, undetermined at this point, coming on September 21.
The upcoming Jin release, The Rest is History will be pushed back a week from September 21 to September 28.
Virgin Records adds the new upcoming A Perfect Circle album to the already burgeoning schedule for their DVD and Remix CD. The run numbers for these releases are huge which means great expectation and anticipation for these titles. To reiterate, a TBD (title) for A Perfect Circle's DVD, which will be issued in Amaray and Jewel casings, a remix CD from A Perfect Circle and finally, the official release of their next. We'll keep an eye out for any changes to this schedule. But for now, you can mark November 2 as the release date.
Here's an advance notice of Fountains of Wayne's intention to release their next album. We've been told a 'get on the board' release date for the next is (tentative) April 5, 2005.
Here's a correction for the upcoming re-issue of Alice Cooper's A Fistful of Alice. The album is not a 'best of' in the original recording sense but rather a reissue of a 1997 live release. Again, the release date is August 10. Sorry for the confusion. Thanks to Stephen Greenaway for his observation.
For Roxy fans, Phil Manzanera is releasing his next album, 6am on July 19 in Europe and a later date in the US. The especially interesting thing concerning 6AM is it brings back a great collection of the original lineup (sans Bryan Ferry) including Brian Eno. This album will also feature Chrissie Hynde and David Gilmour.

Hey...we're going into the 3rd quarter of 2004 with a bang of a beginning. Not only are we anticipating lots of cool upcoming releases including a U2 album but we're excited for the middle of summer as well.
We trust that you have your hot dogs and burgers, your beer and your fireworks (what a combo, eh?), and your extra day off well in hand. So, make sure that you have some fun.
We have a story here from Yahoo concerning a new credit card sized MP3 player from Sony designed to bust up the iPod ring. There's 20GB onboard, and is expected to price competitively with the iPod. Here's the link for you. I have the iPod and really dig it. This Sony release will be called a Walkman.
Also on the iPod front is the story that Dell wants your old, worn out iPods and they're willing to shell out 100 bones for them. The fact is that they will sell you a 15GB model Dell Digital Jukebox for $199 and give you a rebate for your iPod worth $100 thereby resulting in a nice player for only $99. Not bad! This deal really works for people facing having to shell out 100 bux to replace a dying battery. While I dig my iPod, it is a couple years old...hmmmm!
Don't forget the auction going on at max's kansas city online. There is a cool Velvet Underground poster signed by Lou Reed. It's pricey at $1000 minimum but it's history. Visit and check out the auction.
We have a new contest today along with a review of the same album. The review is of IQ's latest, Dark Matter and is reviewed by Dw Dunphy. We also have a dual review of Jesse Malin's The Heat and Patti Scialfa's 23rd Street Lullaby. Those are provided by the sharp and insightful pen of George Bennett. And for good measure, we have a report of a Rush concert. The Rush show took place at the Tweeter Center in Chicago, IL. Check this one out.
We certainly have lots and lots of reviews today for 4th of July padding. The guys who write them are incredible music lovers. And it shows in their writing.
We have the new issue of Duane's Pit Stop for you. Pop in and see what goofy pics he's getting a laugh out of this week.
Have a fantastic 4th for all of those readers in the US. For the rest of the world, have a fantastic weekend.
Don't forget the reader reviews. If you have a single paragraph about a favourite current album that you have, share it with the world. Write me here and use READER REVIEW in the subject line.
