We've had quite a response for the Sirius article. But we also received a few emails feeling as if we've gotten some monetary help in endorsing Sirius only. The reality of it is this - Bill and I had talked at length about satellite radio in general years back. I had expressed reservations when, in fact, Bill was quite interested. The discussion began back in the early days of it when XM had commercials on the movie screens. Eventually, we picked up a few units while Bill went a step further and purchased an in-dash CD/Radio Sirius- ready unit. We simply became hooked and wanted to relay that excitement to you. If we could afford an XM sub, we'd write about it. It isn't a matter of preference. It isn't about Sirius. It's about satellite radio and what it is becoming. Whether you would choose Sirius or XM matters not, just that you become aware of the service. As entertainment sites, we felt that we should share our experiences with you.
We have a few items for you today including the introduction of a new staff member. George Bennett comes well versed in music. He has a background steeped in music and wants to let some of that rub off. He begins his tenure here with a review of T. Rex's Electric Warrior on DVD-Audio. Stop in and check out what he has to say about it. And while you're at it, drop a line and say hello.
There is also Duane's latest Pit Stop. And what?! No Pictures? Well, actually there was. But the bastard sent them to me in WORD!! So, consider this issue of Duane's Pit Stop a work in progress. We'll work on them as soon as I get the individual pics as they are meant to be seen. Something to look forward to. Regardless, the news is there now. Come back for the pics...he really wanted you to see these.
We have a lot of new stuff on the calendars that you're going to want to know about so we'll dive right into it.
We also have our first reader review entry which will post on Monday.
Weekend? Have a great one!
Don't forget the reader reviews. If you have a single paragraph about a favourite current album that you have, share it with the world. Write me here and use READER REVIEW in the subject line.

Nana Mouskouri will have two releases both on May 11 from Philips Records. The new Nana Mouskouri in New York and her Nana Swings on CD adds to her already extensive catalogue of music created since the 60s.
On March 23, Hip-O Records (that institution of coolness) will issue a 2CD Deluxe Edition of Easy Rider. So...Get yer motor runnin'. This will be cool. I'll let you in on the details when I get them.
Well, since it's readily apparent that Chinese Democracy will never see the light of day, it only makes sense to get some return on that fronted money. So, Geffen Records will issue Guns n Roses Greatest Hits on March 23. If you're a fan, mark it on your calendar.
Hip-O Records will release Volume 2 of the Millennium Collection issue for Barry White. This issue will come out on May 18.
Now here's a title I want to get my hands on. Varese Sarabande will release The Complete UKĀ Recordings (1972 - 1974) for 10cc on March 16. This will be spread out over 2 CDs. Calendar marked!!
Polydor will issue an ABBA 'best of' called ABBAAGold - Greatest Hits and will be a CD/DVD combo on May 4.
A&M Records will release another Carpenters album, As Time Goes By. This album is a collection of rarities, all that have never been on album. Originally released in 2001 outside of the US, it now becomes readily available for US fans outside the import market. Comments concerning this album have all been positive especially getting to hear 'new' Carpenters music. This one is expected on April 13.

We have a little addition to DVD-Audio but you'd be better off to be a Disney fan to enjoy it. Walt Disney Records will release Radio Disney Ultimate Jams in DVD-Audio as well as a simultaneous release on CD. This is on the schedule for April 6.

Legacy plans a release for Junior Wells called Don't Start Me Talkin': The Junior Wells Story. This DVD is expected to street on March 16.
During our fair, Mrs TAP, Jr TAP, and myself attended a Doobie Brothers concert. And let me tell you folks, I've never seen a better retro concert. So, a Doobie Brothers concert is one to see. For those of you who were unable to catch a Doobie Brothers show , well, the next best thing is coming. Legacy and Epic Records team up to release Rockin' Down the Highway - The Wildlife Concert on March 30. I don't think many of you will be disappointed with this release.
Shout Factory! will release a DVD of Slade's only film called Slade in Flame. This film was produced at the height of Slade's fame, the like of which produced more than 16 Top10 England hits and two Top40 US hits. The film reveals the pressures of fame in a fictional but realistic setting. It will also offer an interview with Noddy Holder. Slade in Flame arrives March 16. The DVD will be Stereo only.

Welcome back. We've got a whopper of a post for you today. With some cool immediate announcements on the lists today, well...it just goes to say, cool news.
We're very pleased to present to you this review of Sirius' satellite radio. Bill Hunt and I worked for over 6 months evaluating what we feel to be an emerging new way to listen to radio. And besides, it's just plain cool. We hope that you'll enjoy this feature.
We do have a review by Dw Dunphy today of Television's Live at the Old Waldorf that was produced by Rhino's Handmade imprint. Dw is nothing less than enamored of the release so make sure that you stop in and see what the CD is about.
With this batch of news, we'll just jump right into it.
Don't forget the reader reviews. If you have a single paragraph about a favourite current album that you have, share it with the world. Write me here and use READER REVIEW in the subject line.
We'll see you tomorrow.

Aerosmith is set to release their 14th studio effort. The album is called Honkin' on Bobo (?) and will come from Aerosmith original label, Columbia. The album is calendared for March 30. More details on this album to follow as I'm sure Aerosmith fans are chompin' at the bit to get a hold of this one. Honkin' on Bobo is expected to be a jump back to the bluesrock that Aerosmith can do well (remember Get Your Wings?). Columbia is also preparing a Limited Edition package for the same day.
Columbia Records is also preparing an Essential title for Alice in Chains. The Essential Alice in Chains will be unleashed March 23.
Epic/Legacy have an Essential title also on the way. This one, The Essential Donovan, will be issued on March 30. But Essential titles are galore. Last week we mentioned a Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes issue planned by Epic/Legacy, their debut expected on February 24. Now, Epic is producing an Essential Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes collection that sounds great. Epic/Legacy will release this title on March 30.
Epic & Legacy will also issue an Essential title for Tammy Wynette which will make Wynette fans very pleased. This release will come out on March 30, seemingly a banner day for Essential titles.
IMusic's upcoming scheduled Sugarcult issue of Palm Trees and Power Lines is cancelled. If you were anticipating this release, scratch it off...for now.
RCA has a new Ben Kweller issue (see Dw, Santa does exist...he's just a few months late) coming on April 6. The album is called On My Way and is an anticipated title for fans of Kweller.
By the way, Shout Factory! has provided us with the scoop on the upcoming Slade issues and I have to say that when I read the tracking, I almost passed out. And I'll recreate it here for your anticipation. But be warned, it only makes for hell waiting the date. Here are the particulars:
- Get Down and Get With It

- Look Wot You Dun
- Take Me Bak 'ome
- Mama Weer All Crazee Now
- Gudbuy T' Jane

This album is named Get Yer Boots On: The Very Best of Slade and will be available on March 16. And no, Jr...some of these songs were not written by Quiet Riot or Oasis. Quiet Riot owes their popularity to the existence of these songs. Check out the DVD release of Slade in Flame below. The CD will retail at $13.98 and will likely be available for some nice prices here and there. The CD will also contain an 8-page booklet that will have a new interview with Noddy Holder, the band's front man. Rockin'!!
Zappa in classical mode? Of course, we all know that it was a passion of his. Now, you'll get to hear Ensemble Modern do Greggery Peccary and Other Persuasions. This BMG Classic/Red Seal release comes out on March 23. You'll remember that Ensemble Modern was the band that played with Zappa on his Yellow Shark project. This album was blessed by Gail Zappa and is going to be a staple in the catalogue of Frank Zappa. Another incredible title.

C'mon...we want some new titles.
The good news and certainly something to get excited about is news from reader Paul Soper of England who tells me that there is intent to re-release David Bowie's David Live and Stages on DVD-Audio sometime in July. Also noted was the possible release of Let's Dance on DVD-Audio. But this is all rumour at the moment.
We've reported a few days back on the DVD-Audio re-issue of Jackson Browne's Running on Empty. Well, let's get the bad news out of the way. The title has been placed on the TBS (to be scheduled) list. We'll watch for it for you, however.
Deep Purple fans will be excited about another of their albums being converted to DVD-Audio. Burn is expected to get the treatment and delivered by April of this year although delays may be inevitable. We'll watch this for you.
I've got exciting news for Tomita fans. TAP reader, Marc Comfort, all the way from Japan, alerts us to the impending release of Tomita -The Planets on DVD-Audio. Being released by Denon Japan, the disc will offer a mix of 96kHz/24-bit and in Multi-Channel 5.1. This disc is expected on March 29 and is supposedly containing some "killer content". I'm excited about this one.
A date has been set for the Who DVD-Audio of Tommy. The date for those who don't already know is March 23. Now for Quadrophenia...

Legacy plans a release for Junior Wells called Don't Start Me Talkin': The Junior Wells Story. This DVD is expected to street on March 16.

I've loaded you up with CD issue news. The obvious flood gates for releases excepting hi-res is definitely opened. I can barely keep up. And I got more...lots.
It appears that I've locked the readers out of Duane's last Pit Stop. I apologize for that. It's all fixed now. Now if I can get that bastard to leave me alone...nag, nag, nag!
We're putting the finishing touches on the Sirius article. It will post this week.
We're signing out now with the promise of a review of Television's Live at the Old Waldorf from Rhino/Handmade. He sure 'nuff liked this one. That will post tomorrow.
Here's a link to read about Guitar Magazine's Top Guitarist List.
SO, with that, we say see you tomorrow. Enjoy the news. Don't forget the reader reviews. If you have a single paragraph about a favourite current album that you have, share it with the world. Write me here and use READER REVIEW in the subject line.
OK, it ain't the Super Bowl special but since Janet is skin-tastic, I'd thought a little more wouldn't hurt.

Here's that picture of the upcoming George Harrison complete Box package that I referred to...and promised yesterday. This package contains all the re-issues that will also be sold separately. This set comes out on February 24.

I also mentioned something about The Band and a Box set. Well, I'll low-key the the actual date for reasons that it's placed out there BUT...Capitol has this collection on the slate for a fall release. As we get closer, you can bet we'll be revisiting this desireable selection.
Sanctuary will issue an Anthrax title, Music of Mass Destruction: Live in Chicago, will be issued as both a DVD with a bonus CD AND CD with a bonus DVD. This title just got put on the slate so no details exists other than the DVD is packaged as amaray. Also that this title goes into stores on April 6.
The Right Stuff (TRS Records) has an Al Green Box in prep mode and is on the calendar. But like the Band issue, it's out there and kissing Christmas. It too has a fall release.
Also on the waaaayyy out there list are titles by Be Good Tanyas; Richard Marx; Thalia; Selena; and a Greatest Hits for Delerium.
The Doves' untitled album and Iggy Pop's Best of Iggy Pop have been placed on hold.
The anticipated Paul McCartney's Love Songs (and I should have let you know this long before this cuz I knew it but am now just realizing my error) is also on indefinite hold.
Sanctuary also has a title coming from Brides of Destruction entitled Here Come The Brides, this time with an edited version as well as the PA title. This enhanced CD will be released on March 9.
Razor & Tie / Triple Crown will issue the enhanced CD of Folly's Insanity Later on April 6.
March 23 will be the issue date for another Sanctuary title, Panic Movement. This album is by The Hiss and will be an enhanced CD. The Hiss releases this debut that sounds like cross sections of Kings of Leon, Oasis, and an aggressive Datsuns. The enhanced portions will include videos "Clever Kicks" and "Back on the Radio". They have garnered a lot of praise so I'm wanting to watch this band. There is just something about those Brits.

Barry Manilow has a 2CD live album arriving on April 6. The album is 2Nights Live! and features over two hours of Manilow music including 6 previously unrecorded tunes sung by Manilow. That's 41 tracks in all with each disc representing a night of the show. But that ain't all. BMG Heritage also has a DVD from Barry Manilow coming as well (same date). See below!
Want some Todd Rundgren? Sanctuary Records has Liars coming on April 6. No info yet.
Fear Factory's 5th album, Archetype, will be released on April 20 by Liquid 8 Records.

C'mon...we want some new titles.
The good news and certainly something to get excited about is news from reader Paul Soper of England who tells me that there is intent to re-release David Bowie's David Live and Stages on DVD-Audio sometime in July. A date has been set for the Who DVD-Audio of Tommy. The date for those who don't already know is March 23. Now for Quadrophenia...

Barry Manilow will have a 2DVD set from BMG/Heritage arriving on April 6 called Ultimate Manilow! Live from the Kodak Theatre. This set will have 2 discs with the first being the CBS broadcast version while disc 2 offers the extended cut for a total of 127 minutes combined. It will mastered in Stereo and 5.1. Features include audio commentary on the extended cut by Barry Manilow; song lyrics, concert rundowns, biography, discography, and the obligatory photo gallery. Here's the cover scan:
Britney Spears upcoming In the Zone DVD that is expected on March 23 will contain a bonus CD with 4 tracks, 2 of them unreleased and the other two are remixes. The DVD is mixed in 5.1 Surround as well as Dolby Digital Stereo. The contents are the ABC In The Zone special; live performances from MTV's Spankin' New Music Week; excerpts from MTV's Makin' the Video with Britney's "Me Against the Music"; the video of "Me Against the Music"; and a Las Vegas performance clip. This release from Jive Records will run 80 minutes.
Radiohead and Capitol will issue a DVD of Radiohead TV. Watch for Radiohead TV on April 20.
February 02, 2004
Hope you all had a great weekend. They just kind of float right by me. As I'm sure they do you as well...so I should quit whinin', eh?
Alright. We have the promised reviews today but the article on Sirius Satellite Radio should post tomorrow..last minute fixes. Bill Hunt and I got us some units for our homes and cars. Bill actually went a step further and picked up a combo CD/Radio indash that is Sirius ready. And we liked them...lots. To be fair, I was skeptical at the beginning but I was interested. After 6 months of listening, pretty regular I might add, we wrote up this article. Bottom line, it's pretty exciting. I'm finding it hard to not listen for at least an hour a day. I've discovered a few bands and I also enjoy listening to retro radio. The old style jingles are there. It's pretty immersive. In any case, check it out when it posts over the next few days and let us know of your own experiences with satellite radio. Hell, let me know if you're interested in satellite radio service. I'll answer all questions from my own experience. And here's a great bit of news. Sirius will broadcast play by plays for the entire NFL season beginning this year. This is also true for the entire NBA and NHL seasons.
More stuff for you. We now have the gears working for reader submitted reviews. And here's the 'how-to'. If you have a current CD that you would like to review for other readers, simply write up a paragraph and send a 100x100 pixel scan of the album cover. We'll give you full credit. If you cannot do the scan, we can usually get it so it's not a must. Submit away...and have fun.
Additionally, we're doing capsule review now. We have a ton of albums that time doesn't allow for 7 or 8 paragraphs but we do want to say something. So..capsule reviews. Watch for 'em. But that ain't all. There is a wealth of great albums years old. Retro! We love a lot of them. So why not write about 'em. And that's what we're going to do. Watch for our writers to do some older stuff.
And now for the reviews. Dw Dunphy has come in with a 'three-fer' on the recently released trilogy of Ben Folds EPs. There's Speed Graphic, Sunny 16, and The Bens all in one monster review. Additionally, Marco Passarelli lent an ear (or two) to Earl Slick's latest, Zig Zag. Finally, I've listened to a great new blues sampler from Telarc Blues called, Bar Room Blues - A 12-Track Program. Read and see what I thought about it.
A big day for Monday. Remember, got a paragraph about a favourite album? Write it up and send it in to me right here. Use READER REVIEW in the subject. That will help me identify the good stuff from this deluge of wormy viruses.
OK..Duane hit the weekend and spent some time with Simon Phillips. Now a lot of you know Simon Phillips from his session work and his time with Toto. We're hoping for an interview. And speaking of interviews, Marco Passarelli is putting the questions to Earl Slick. You'll be able to read his responses soon right here.
We have some winners for our contests. Here's the names and what they got. Congrats folks.

Ready for some news? Here we go...

We left Friday with the promise of some info. Now we're going to satisfy that itch.
IRS Records is releasing a DualDisc set for REM's Document on February 10. I don't have the scoop yet on what the 'dual disc' entails but I'll let you know when I do. The same is true of a similar treatment for Crowded House's self-titled debut from Capitol Records also on February 10.
On February 24, Capitol will continue the DualDisc for The Beach Boys' Pet Sounds.
Janet Jackson's next will be titled Damita Jo and will be available from Virgin Records on March 30.
The Right Stuff (TRS Records) will issue O'Jays' Together We Are One on April 6.
Charlie Musselwhite's Sanctuary comes out on April 6 along with Ron Sexsmith's Retriever and Cannonball Adderley's Cannonball Plays Zawinul.
Frank Sinatra's His Greatest Performances comes from Capitol Records on May 4.
As reported, Queensryche's upcoming Unreleased Rarities slips to May 18.
Capitol Records has a few titles coming on June 1. Two new titles from bands, The Chelsea Smile and Hou'ston with titles yet to be named. Capitol also has a few knowns on the calendar as well. June 1 will deliver Dean Martin's Dino: The Essential Dean as well as The Beach Boys' The Ultimate Christmas. You'll also find Mazzy Star's Anthology on the shelves (June 1) in two styles, the standard CD issue and a Limited Edition CD/DVD package.
Here come those Pat Benatar re-issues. On June 15, Capitol will put out a short run of the following titles:
And since Capitol is really kicking them out, why not Poison? They have Swallow This Live: Limited Edition coming on June 15.
July will see a slated set coming for The Smithereens. The Smithereens Anthology is on the schedule for July 27.
This one slipped under the radar but I'm on to it now. From 4AD is the newest Lisa Gerrard, ex of Dead Can Dance. The new album is called Immortal Memory and is a collaboration with Patrick Cassidy. Available now!!
Well. We've overloaded the system with this gigantic Monday. But...I'll leave you with this teaser. I'm hearing something in the works for the Fall for The Band. Check back tomorrow for the particular on this. I'll also have a photo shot of the box set for George Harrison's upcoming re-issues. The all-in-one package.

C'mon...we want some new titles.
