March 7, 2003

-Release Flash-

The new Bruce Cockburn disc with 12 new songs is scheduled to be released on June 3. The disc is entitled "You've Never Seen Everything". Do we sound excited?

The reports coming from EMI concerning the the Pink Floyd SACD of Dark Side of the Moon is conflicted. We have official sheets stating it as April 8, however certain places are still saying March 25 with the remainder stating April 1. Confused? What's a buyer to do? I'm researching. Continuing...

Another set of titles that are delayed are the upcoming Warren Zevon discs from Universal. The titles, "Sentimental Hygiene", "Transverse City", and "Wanted Dead or Alive" are rescheduled for April 8.

There's no real news on the upcoming Deluxe Edition workout for Lionel Ritchie from Motown which is due out on May 6. But it's a title that I'm paying close attention to. As soon as the sheets on this disc come out, I'll give the info on the inclusions. The set is a 2 CD package.

Dreamworks' The Eels have an album arriving on June 3 titled "Shootenanny!". From Geffen, for Primus fans, a 'Greatest Hits' disc streeting on June 3.

I've mentioned these before but it bears mentioning again: Nick Drake titles re-released are, "Bryter Layter", "Five Leaves Left", and "Pink Moon". Nick Drake left a collection of extraordinary songs from an all too brief life but the legacy still rings loudly. These discs are anticipated titles. We're hoping that Island does these discs up right. The discs are scheduled for April 29.

A cover shot? How about the upcoming "Fugee's Greatest Hits"? This disc streets on April 1.

We're closing with Duane's newest edition of Punk Pit...ignore the bastard's swipe at WBA and The Mac. He knows not what he does.---

That’s it for now folks. Gotta work on a old Strat. Remember.. more Punk Less Junk. Late.

Well, that's it for the week from us here at MusicTAP. Now here's an order...Enjoy this weekend.

March 6, 2003

We're going to take a day, maybe two, off with very minimal posting. If we find something of importance than we'll put it up. We are working with BMG to finalize an information conduit so we can expand just that much more. It's very exciting for us. We apologize for the no-show but there are some things that we need to attend to so please bear with us. I will leave yesterday's post up on the front page. Additionally, the promised Zombies review is now posted.

March 5, 2003

Short post today folks, very short. Release news is a virtual standstill. This is something we knew could happen when we seen the calendars at the first of the year but didn't think it would be THIS bad.

The good news for Fleetwood Mac fans (Buckingham period, that is) is the April 15 release of their newest studio disc, "Say You Will". There is also a Limited Edition being planned as well as ...ta da...a DVD-Audio version. Keep watching here for the cover shot.

On April 22, Warner Bros releases Madonna's "American Life" in CD, Amended CD (whatever that means), and Special Limited Edition CD + DVD.

There are a faction of people that apparently are not anxious to acquire The Who's "Who's Next - Deluxe Edition". Too bad. But that's OK, since the disc wasn't created for them in mind anyway. The disc is created for those who love The Who and want to acquire the best that technology can deliver of their favourites. Any favourite of mine has my dollars if the most recent upgrade provide what the deluxe edition provides for "Who's Next". To me, it's all about the love. Love your money? Don't part with it. Love The Who? The Deluxe Editon rocks. 'Nuff said!

For Zombies fans, Varese Sarabande is prepping up a release of the Zombies' debut album. And let's face it, if you remember The Zombies, you were always impressed with their songs. I know that I I was. This disc features the original Mono release of the songs because it contains unique track mixes not available on any stereo versions of the songs. This set has never been released in the US on CD before. And it includes six additional 'bonus' tracks that presents two US single versions, "Leave Me Be" and "I Must Move". Even today, I could listen to "The Time of the Season" over and over. And have been. I have been listening to the amazing Steve Hoffman remaster of The Zombies Greatest Hits. It rocks. While I had promised a Zombies SACD review, it's delayed until tomorrow. As it stands, it may be the only thing I post due to such low news turnout. I need to work on stuff anyway. This release is scheduled for March 25.

I'm feelin' like a shill. Greg, aintcha feelin' a tad like a shill today? Does it pay good, being a shill? Whoops, I said shrill when I shoulda said shill. Do they get better pay? Thanks to John for the correction.

Also scheduled for March 25, Dave Mason's "Very Best of Dave Mason" from Universal. The collection provides 10 songs at a low price. But don't be mislead as some of these songs are live performances rather than the original recording. If you need to round out on Mason, this is a good set. Personally, I 'd like a retrospective encompassing even his Columbia years. Not unheard of in this time.

Also on March 25, from Polydor Records is Cream - "The BBC Sessions". This set consists of 22 live BBC performances, 20 of them unreleased tracks along with 4 short interview segments. Recorded late '66 through early '68, these live tracks provide interesting recordings of songs that were being showcased or were already released. The set also includes photos and an essay.

Keep an eye out for a John Mayall release providing 8 tracks, also on March 25 and from Fuel2000 Records.

Verve is readying a release of Louis Armstrong's "For Lovers" slated for an August 19 release.

Awww...see what a lack of quality news will make you go and do----

March 4, 2003

We've raved a bit about The Raveonettes, and deservedly so. Now here's your chance to see why. They make an appearance on Late Night w/ Conan O'Brien for the March 7 broadcast. Next week, The Music will make an appearance on The David Letterman show on March 18. Everclear makes an appearance on The Tonight Show w/ Jay Leno on Monday, March 10.

Today, we have the review for The Music's debut disc, "The Music". We will have the review for an SACD, Audio Fidelity's "The Zombies Greatest Hits" tomorrow. The fidelity on this disc is nothing short of amazing. It's so great to hear "She's Not There", "Time of the Season", and "Tell Her No" in the way that it was meant to be heard. For Steve Hoffman fans, this is a disc that he compiled and remastered specifically for the SACD format.

We've been told that the Ramones' "Around The World" DVD has been delayed until...sittin' down? Sept 9, waaay down from April 8. That's the new date. Pull those worn erasers out and re-pencil.

We have some more artwork for you. Some of these replace the funky scans that I posted earlier for those Essential titles that a lot of you were interested in.

Celine Deon new disc, "One Heart", is released on March 25.

The reissued and remastered "Nantucket Sleighride" by Mountain is released on April 8. We've already talked about these upcoming Mountain titles in depth. We'll revisit them as we get closer to the date. Here's a cover shot for you.

We've got a few more titles to show you before we close the shop doors. There is a new Heart DVD up and coming around April 1. The title is "The Road Home".

There is a brand new Stanley Clarke disc making it's way to your player on April 15. The title is "1, 2, To The Bass", from Epic Records. And from Capitol on March 25 is the latest from Roseanne Cash, "Rules of Travel". That's also the same day as the Pink Floyd SACD. Excited?

See you tomorrow, hopefully with more than the meager fare that is being meted out this week.

March 3, 2003

Wow. This week looks to be poor for lots of news from the Big 5 where releases are concerned. It's as if the labels decided to take a good weekend here. Regardless, what we find, we'll talk about.

Hopefully everyone has had a great weekend. Maybe you caught a movie or bought some new music. And yes, I'm going to bring this up...again. The Music's debut was released on February 25. So I decided to review the disc since I'm always drooling over the band. That will post tomorrow. The great news is that this title is available at Best Buy for only $6.99. $6.99!! It won't last long at this price. Normally, ignition artists get a good price to break them into the market. This feature generally lasts only a month. I'm telling you people, if you like good rock n roll, this band of UK guys crank 10 tracks of excellent rock. Thus far, they are my pick of the year.

We've mentioned the George Clinton's Parliament reissues earlier. We now have some cover shots and a look at the bonus tracks for the titles that are getting the rework.

This set is the first round of remastered Parliament discs. These titles obsolete their previous release and deletes them from the catalogue. The reissues come in all original packaging/artwork and will street on April 8. I'm anxious for some of the later issues. Get funkin'!!

Chocolate City contains 3 unreleased tracks:

  • If It Don't Fit, Don't Force It - Alternate Take
  • I Misjudged You - Alternate Take
  • Common-Law Wife

Mothership Connection provides the radio promo edit of "Star Child (Mothership Connection)" as it's bonus track.

Up For The Down Stroke issues 3 bonus tracks:

  • Up For The Down Stroke - Alternate Mix
  • Testify - Alternate Mix
  • Singing Another Song - Unreleased Song

In a strange twist and after being so veiled, it looks as if the SACD of Peter Gabriel's "Up" will street on April 15 and will be an SACD Hybrid. This baby will arrive several weeks ahead of its sisters, which are expected April 29 and are NOT Hybrid.

In other SACD news, Universal/Verve will issue Aaron Neville's upcoming "Nature Boy" in the format on July 1. This disc gets a simultaneous release with it's CD counterpart.

The new Ashanti with title tba is scheduled for a July 1 release.

Bryan Adams fans get a DVD on April 29, "Live at Budokan". No details as of yet.

And if you are a .38 Special fan, there is a "Very Best of The A&M Years" soon to arrive on April 15. Since we're looking back, there is a Cat Stevens 'best of' collection scheduled for June 24. Entitled, "Footsteps in the Dark - Greatest Hits 2", the package features remastering. No word on content as of yet.

We'll check back with you tomorrow.
