Do we have a kicker of a daily post for you today! Not only do we have the June 6 edition of Duane's Pit Stop, we have Scott Watkins' critique of the Lazerwolfs, currently on tour. We also have a review for you from Brett Rudolph. He listens to an advanced copy of the upcoming Yo-Yo Ma disc, Brazil, available on July 29 as both a regular CD release from Sony Classical and as a Multi-Channel SACD title. To cap it all off, we have a little bit of news. That should carry you over into the weekend.
Don't forget to pick up the June 17 release of The Essential Clash DVD. I'm pretty excited about this title and will be picking it up as soon as I can. Here's the cover shot for those who hasn't seen it yet. I've made reference to an upcoming title by Rush several days back. I've had some emails pointing out the previously announced Rush 2DVD live Rounder disc, Live in Rio. This DVD is expected to street on August 26. But that ain't the news I've received and that I reported on. And since all I have is a date and the simple fact that Rush will have a CD title released, it's all I can talk about. I apologize for any confusion. But hang in there. As soon as I receive information, you'll get your hands on it as well. Holy smokes, how slow music release news is right now. Believe me when I say that we're poring over every little bit of detail that we think that you may be interested in. Reader Claus Cheng has alerted us to the fact that Amazon is selling the upcoming Jeff Beck album as Hot Rod Honeymoon. We only see it as Jeff for right now. Hard to say at this point. King Biscuit Flower Hour is issuing 4 more KBFH Records titles for John Entwistle; Pat Benatar; GTR; and Todd Rundgren. We're whipping up a combined review for the last 4 KBFH titles featuring Robin Trower; April Wine; Humble Pie; and Kansas. Watch for those real soon. I wanted to make you aware of an 'almost free' sampler disc from Projekt Records. The disc is only a dollar and is chock full of music best characterized as gothic oriented. However, the music on this label is extremely intriguing and condsidered by myself to be a great source of high quality bands. I regularly listen to music from this label, considered one of the best in the genre. Here is a link to the label's offer page. Additionally you can listen to MP3s from the label's bands by going to MP3.com. As a closer, I'd like to give you the opportunity to preview a stream from the just released RCA title, Lou Reed: NYC Man, a retrospective 2CD set. The link leads to an alternate version of Walk on the Wild Side contained on the album. This link is for Realplayer and this one for Media Player. Let me finish by relaying that on September 23, Warner is reissuing six James Taylor titles, Sweet Baby James; Walking Man; One Man Dog; In The Pocket; Gorilla; and Mud Slide Slim and the Blue Horizon. On the same day, three of the upcoming R.E.M. catalogue destined for DVD-Audio, Green; Monster; and Out of Time is scheduled. Be prepared for delays as these titles have already bumped once. Enjoy your weekend. We'll be back on monday with a bevy of upcoming reviews including my take on The Kinks' Low Budget SACD from Mobile Fidelity. There are also reviews by Brett Rudolph and Dw Dunphy. I may throw another in the mix (bet I do). Marco Passarelli is working on the review for the Duran Duran boxed singles set. We're back with a bit of stuff for you. We even have a review for you. The review is from Dw Dunphy's assessment of Starflyer 59's Old. Watch for the SACD Kinks reissue of Low Budget from Mobile Fidelity. MTap's Scott Watkins, attended a show with the Lazerwolfs. His critique is available here tomorrow. We also have Duane's PitStop as well as more reviews. Now, let's see what's comin' our way.
Now here's where it gets real tasty. RCA/BMG Heritage is scheduling for release on July 22, 4 reissues of Jefferson Airplane titles. The titles are their first four, Jefferson Airplane Takes Off; Surrealistic Pillow; After Bathing at Baxter's; and Crown of Creation. The discs feature remastering from the original masters and bonus tracks from the sessions. The breakdown is as follows for Jefferson Airplane Takes Off:
For Surrealistic Pillow:
For After Bathing at Baxter's:
For Crown of Creation:
These Deluxe Editions will retail for $13.98/mid-line. Justin Timberlake's Justified:The Videos have reappeared on the schedules with no particular date. I'll keep you posted on this. Jeff Beck's expected new release is undergoing a new transformation. The title has changed (temporarily, I'll bet) from Grease Monkey to Jeff. It's not bad but will it stick? The expected date of Jeff Beck's latest is July 22. EMI releases a hits package for Peter Tosh entitled, The Best of Peter Tosh, 1978-1987. This title streets on July 8. Other titles that readers have been anxious about (besides the Neil Young issues...still on for June 24) are the upcoming Don McLean remastered American Pie (we're excited about this title too) and Bob Seger's Against The Wind, all on June 24. Another title of interest that is out on the same date is a remastered Gordon Lightfoot Classic Masters Edition.
We have a Rush title TBA scheduled for August 26. Also on that date is a hits album from Seals and Crofts and a Volume 2 - Greatest Hits for Rod Stewart. Come back tomorrow for the weekend edition and I'll have a few more bits for you including some new dates for the REM DVD-Audios. And maybe some more reviews. The quick note for today is that Metallica's latest, St Anger, has been stepped up to June 5 because of unauthorized copies that are leaking around the internet.
I've heard that Neil Young is preparing to piece out his latest material, Greendale, via his website, neilyoung. But I also know that Neil has something in the works for release in the 3rd Qtr of 2003. 'Nuff Said...for now. I deeply apologize for the quick post today. We'll be back tomorrow with more. We have some interesting release news for you. Check back. We have a few good items of interest for you today so dig in and enjoy the news. I received an email yesterday from someone asking for a particular concerning the Black Sabbath issue coming from Warner. Given the wealth of lack I'm experiencing today, I've decided to let that cat out of the bag despite its far reaching release date. As a matter of fairness to you folks, I try to steer away from dates too far down the road in case something gets dropped off the schedule. Rather than get you all excited about something and then having it disappear, I like to see how sure it is unless I'm fairly positive otherwise. The Black Sabbath hint early on in one of my dailies is this: In October and with a title still unknown, Warner has scheduled a 9CD box set. What that entails is still unknown at this time but rest assured that when the info becomes available, you'll know all about it. Here's a few more tidbits for you to roll around on. Warner is prepping up a new 2CD title from 10,000 Maniacs, Campfire Songs. There is no info at this time as to what this entails but it just might be a retrospective. That's expected August 26. Also on that date is Rod Stewart's Greatest Hits Vol 2. It's expected that Pantera fans will get a Greatest Hits package in September at some time. The upcoming Alien Ant Farm is now titled. The name of the album will be TruAnt and is expected August 19. On August 5 from Interscope comes Get The Picture from Smashmouth. Some really good info for Sonic Youth fans is that Geffen is revving up Sonic Youth's Goo for a 2CD Deluxe Edition. If it's as essential as their Dirty release was, fans will be able to beef up their libraries with more quality Sonic Youth discs. That arrives on September 23. For DVD, A&M Records will release Interpretations by The Carpenters. It releases on July 29, the same day as the Carpenters Perform Carpenters CD. Geffen is hard at work on a box set for Joni Mitchell. The set, Passion Play: The Complete Geffen Recordings is expected to street on September 9. A&M is putting together their box set of Joan Baez recordings, Complete A&M Recordings and is expected to be released on September 9 as well. These sets represent an excellent way to complete a collection for those who have only partials or none at all. We've received a few discs for review. Several of them have streams available. I'm going to point the way here for Dave Gahan (Depeche Mode) and his solo album, intriguing Rob Dougan's Furious Angel, and the upcoming Steely Dan disc. Enjoy them. And with that, we'll sign off. Check back tomorrow with your fingers crossed. Hopefully we'll have a few other features up for you. I get a feeling that this week may be light on release news. I expressed a little concern last week about this but we'll see as the week progresses. We're near finished with the DIY aspects of the house. All of the drywall is installed, the tape and compound is being sanded down and the primer getting ready to be slathered on. Painting is the next order,. followed by flooring installations and then, done!! Here's the long awaited review of Byrd Parts Vol 2 from Raven Records as written by Mega Byrds Fan, Bob Olsen. We also have a nice cool review for an old favourite band of mine since Alarma days. Dw Dunphy has checked out DA's Mr Buechner's Dream. A bit of a retro review that but DA is really worth checking out. That makes four TAP writers old fans of the band. Shout! Factory is releasing a Robert Johnson DVD called The Life and Music of Robert Johnson: Can't You Hear The Wind Howl. This DVD releases on July 22. That sounds like a must pick-up for blues fans everywhere.
On July 29, Epic is continuing DVD releases, this next one a DVD EP from Audioslave. The title is Cochise/Like a Stone/Show Me How to Live. It's joined on the same day by another Epic release from Genuwine, The Videos. Jeff Beck's upcoming Grease Monkey is now scheduled for July 22. Watch for upcoming info concerning this anticipated album. Legacy releases a 'Best of' for Lee Ritenour on July 1. Legacy is also readying a disc for Neil Diamond called Stages. This disc comes out on August 5. Matador Records is expanding their catalogue with an upcoming disc by Pretty Girls Make Graves, The New Romance on September 19 while Guided by Voices' disc, Earthquake Glue gets released on August 19.
We'll be back tomorrow with more reviews and more news. Hopefully, we'll have some surprises in store. Copyright © 2002 - 2003 Matthew Rowe. All rights reserved. Site is designed for 1024x768 resolution. 212 Frech |
