It's birthday time in TAPLand. Shari, my daughter, is celebrating her birthday today. We're off to take her to Medieval Times as we have a tradition of taking the birthday person to a place to eat of their choosing. It should be fun. We received a slew of emails concerning the SACD II issues. Whether it's something that will happen or is so much smoke, I believe that all discs are headed to this hi resolution future. Here's an article from one of our 'brothers' on the 'Net. Well..we have this week's Duane's Pit Stop for you. We have a few other things for you and then it's off into the weekend. Here's a look at upcoming titles in Universal's Millennium Collection-20th Century Masters:
Rounder Records is prepping 3 more Bruce Cockburn titles for reissue on September 30. The titles are Humans; Stealing Fire; and High Winds, White Sky. Fans of Grease (the movie) will be getting a Deluxe Edition from Polydor on September 23. Oh, that's greased lightnin'. I've saved the best news for last. You'll remember that quite some time back, we let you know that Universal was going to be very agressive and go the route of both hi-res formats. Of course, we were wonderin' when some titles would show up but we have a few of them now for you. The following titles will be released as DVD-Audio format:
This should send you into the weekend well armed with a bit of info as to what's coming out. We'll work on a good Monday morning post for you. Have a great weekend!! We'll see you on Monday. The big news today comes from HighFidelityReview (I don't link 'em because they don't like it) and is about an unconfirmed format change for SACDs and will be referred to as SACD II. The change brings visual content into the play as a seeming strike against the DVD-Audio camp. Since visual displays are a unique thing for DVD-Audio, the SACD camp wants to change that. The secondary reasoning is enhanced copy protection. All in all, the format is to be phased in completely by 2007 thus gradually eliminating current SACD. The big question is backward compatibility and the assumed inadequacy of current SACD players to display the visual content. Continuing... A word concerning the upcoming Rush title, Live in Rio, is that it is now bumped to September 23. Hang tight, fans and consider the plight of Neil Young fans. Sanctuary Records have an Allman Brothers live 2DVD set upcoming for September 23. The set is titled The Allman Brothers Band at the Beacon. Sanctuary will also release a 2DVD set for Sammy Hagar called The Long Road to Cabo. It's expected to street on September 23 as well. Jive Records has a solo outing upcoming by NSync vocalist JC Chasez. This album is expected out on October 28. Sarah's already in line. We hinted some time back about an upcoming and still untitled Dave Matthews Band disc. The scheduled release date is now set at November 4. We'll supply more info as we go along in the coming weeks. J Records' Wyclef Jean's next effort, Preacher's Son, gets relocated to October 14. Sanctuary Records have KMFDM's next album, WWWIII, on the calendar for September 23. Also scheduled for September 23 is Living Colour with their upcoming, Collideoscope. Lynyrd Skynyrd's last title, Vicious Cycle, gets revamped as a Special Edition with a bonus DVD, also on September 23. Arista/LaFace Records issues Still Sexy, Always Sexy, Forever Cool...The Hits, in short, a 'best of' package that is expected on shelves on October 24. It's been awful quiet this week. You can expect Duane's Pit Stop tomorrow so watch for that and any other news we can dig up for you. See you then... Welcome to mid-week. It's where we're almost there or it's almost over. We have a few items of interest for you today. It's not much but that happens now and again. Nevertheless, we always try to have something for you and today is no exception. The redesigned Doors 7CD Box, The Complete Studio Recordings, is now scheduled for movement on September 9 as well as the Tom Petty Live at the Olympic: The Last DJ and More; DVD with CD in both jewel box or DVD packaging. On the 30th of September, The Deftones' Adrenaline gets released in LP format. On October 14, a date change for Ben Jelen and his Give It All Away as well as Kid Rock's as yet untitled album. 10,000 Maniacs releases on October 28 their upcoming 2CD Campfire Songs: The Popular, Obscure, and Unknown Recordings of 10,000 Maniacs. Also on October 28 is Peak Show's self titled effort. Fleetwood Mac's Fleetwood Mac (Buckingham/Nicks) gets the DVD-Audio treatment on November 11. That should keep a lot of you awake for awhile. On November 18, there will be a Michelle Branch DVD to anticipate. The Flaming Lips' EP/CD, Ego Tripping at the Gates of Hell gets placed into TBS limbo. We'll keep you posted on when it makes it back. There's a whisper of an Alanis Morrisette album and a Red Hot Chili Peppers DVD. Of course, these are rumours but heard ne'er theless. Watch TAP for more details as they become available. Finally, on September 23, the folks from Island Records will issue a 2CD Deluxe Edition of Melissa Etheridge by ...Melissa Etheridge. The details will soon follow as they become known to me.
Soon, we'll look at the Millennium Collection since that's a series we haven't looked at for a long time. Tomorrow... BTW, Reader Mark Lavallee has emailed us with the following link concerning Pink Floyd's long awaited Live at Pompeii DVD. The link shows box art, menu shots, and other things so enjoy the link. Thanks again, Mark. I'd like to take a moment to say hello to Christopher Thomas of Silver Platters who uses MusicTAP as a resource to keep up so that customers can be informed. Chris..thanks for the email. It's great to hear the various ways that TAP becomes useful to readers. Projekt Records is updating their catalog with some new releases expected throughout early 2004. There will be the new Android Lust disc, The Dividing, expected on July 29. In late 2003, Projekt will release two maxi CDs for Voltaire, Banned on Vulcan and Then and Again. Also expect a new compilation disc, The New Face of Goth. In early 2004, expect albums from Mira, Audra, and Black Tape for a Blue Girl. We have upcoming reviews of the latest releases from Projekt, Unto Ashes' Empty Into White and Faith and Disease's passport to kunming. Expect those shortly. United States Distribution LTD is releasing a pair of Eno titles on August 12. The first will be Brian Eno's Music for Films Vol 3 with Roger Eno's magnificent Between Tides residing in the next shelf. Also available from the label will be Asia's Dragon Attack. Martin Stephenson's Boat to Bolivia also comes out on that date and will have bonus tracks included and Rick Wakeman's Oscar Concert releases as well. Here are some Rough Trade releases. For September 9, expect a disc from British Sea Power called The Decline of British Sea Power. Also Belle & Sebastian with Step Into My Office, Baby. This title will be released in both CD and LP formats. Finally, Rough Trade issues Adam Green's Jessica, same date. From Sanctuary, Welcome to Poppy's from Fun Lovin' Criminals comes out on October 7 along with Sleep/Holiday by Gorky's Zygotic Mynci. For those waiting for Alan Jackson's DVD, Greatest Hits Volume 2, pull out the stubby pencil and write in the date of September 9 as it's updated release date. From V2 Records and Rickie Lee Jones (Chuckie's in Love) comes her next, Evening of My Best Day on October 7. Also from V2, a Toots and the Maytals disc, Toots and Friends (working title) is pencilled in with no release date scheduled. Those recently cancelled Platinum & Gold titles may be making a comeback. Rick Springfield, one of the casualties is now put back onto the schedule with the new release date of September 9. The rest show no signs of a pulse yet. The delayed Justin Timberlake DVD, Justified:The Videos, enters back to the release schedule with a new date of September 23. The title also gets a VHS release, same date. And speaking of DVDs, The Who's documentary, The Kids Are Alright, will be released on September 30. The Pioneer Entertainment title will feature remastering, a 5.1 re-mix with both Dolby Digital and DTS. There will be a single disc Deluxe Edition with commentary and notes as well as a 2DVD Special Edition with interviews and other things. Yep! No reviews this evening but we'll work on rectifying that. In the meantime, stay out of the heat and enjoy life. Enjoy life because 'we may never pass this way again'. Love. With July cookin' along and August already on the back burner of the stove we call summer, we're busy here at TAP to evolve this site into a more useable reference point for upcoming music. We know it's coming because we see our usefulness for fans of music who are always on the lookout for something new. We want to be your absolute source. We're working on expansions here. Although it's been spotty in places, our goal is to provide an overview of what makes your music enjoyment important. From radio to LPs, to SACD/DVD-Audios, concerts and up and coming bands. We're still finding our place in this whole thing so we're hoping that you're patient with us as we grow...and learn. Keep sending us those emails because its the only way that we can learn. Thanks to reader Fred Tepper for this tip on the newly assembled, semi formal SACD forum in order to push the format as the de facto standard. It's an interesting note and one that we'll be paying attention to. It's fairtime in most of America. And with fairs, besides the excess of food and stuff are bands from the past as well as new bands where the fairs are sizeable. We have the Orange County Fair here in Orange County, CA. We've watched many of the bands scheduled. Bill Hunt and myself watched Blue Oyster Cult put on a fairly respectable show despite the time constraints. I have my calendar scribbled for Roxy Music as well as Doobie Brothers. There have been sold out shows for Duran Duran, 311, and more. So, get out to see a show at your local fair if you have them available. If not, just go out and have a nice time regardless. I'm interested to hear about any music you've heard at fairs. But what's on the release calendars? Epic Records has an upcoming AC/DC album box reissue, Bonfire, scheduled for September 9. On September 16, Columbia releases a 4CD Bob Dylan retro titled Greatest Hits Volumes 1,2, and 3. Here's the track listing (again) for this title: Rainy Day Women #12 & 35 Album Version David Bowie is readying his second, Reality, for Columbia Records with simultaneous release in both CD and SACD Multichannel/Stereo. This title is expected to hit stores on September 16. We'll keep you posted when we hear anything more. But if it's anything like his last, Heathen, then I'd say it's has to be pretty good. While I'm giving out track listing, I'd thought I'd go out on a limb, my own, and list the expected track lisiting for the upcoming Legacy Edition of Jeff Buckley/Live at Sin-e' expected on September 2. Be Your Husband Remember, on September 30, Columbia releases a CD/DVD set for Neil Diamond, Stages. It appears to be an ambitious live album with a DVD included to make the experience a great one. Legacy's upcoming Byrds project, Sweetheart of The Rodeo, is expected for September 2. We've spoken of this one before so consider this a reminder. But don't worry, we'll remind you again. Finally for today, zebrahead's upcoming disc, MFZB, is pencilled in for a September 9 release. We also have a few new SACD releases for your calendars:
