Here we are, once again. Not only are we at the week's end but we also have The 4th of July at hand, an American Holiday. That means 3 day weekends for a lot of us. We are nearing a completion of the house which will put me much more at ease and a lot more attentive. and while we have held the flag high, we do feel as if our knees have buckled a bit. All that will change after the completion, as it's become known to those of us in it's grip. We have Duane's Pit Stop for the week of July 4 and a few new reviews. There is the promised T3 soundtrack by Dw Dunphy along with my review of Guster. Ok, off to the notes. We've checked in with BMG today and have the following news to report.
We reported several days ago that Wyclef Jean's upcoming Preacher's Son was scheduled for September 9. That date is now penciled in at September 23. V2 Records is expected to release a 2CD Moby set on October 7. The set will contain both CD and bonus DVD. J Records recording artist, Rod Stewart, readies a volume two of his American Songbook album. It's scheduled for release on October 14. Sanctuary's expected DVD of Utopia's Live in Columbus Oh,1980 is now in limbo. Scratch the date and wait for the word. That's it for this week. Be sure to check back on Monday for more. It's also the date for the final week of house work so be sure to check and see if I made it out alive. We're back with a few reviews and some news. And a request. As you can tell, we've made a change here and a change there, but I'm really interested in what you'd like to see. If you have a cool suggestion, pass it onto me. I'm all eyes. You know every cliche you have heard about undertaking a renovation of an older house is absolutely true. I've seen every dark side of not only the house but of Mrs TAP and myself. It's been nightmarish despite the fact that we're almost completed. We're looking at a mild 2-3 weeks maximum until complete. But it can't be here soon enough. Wanna make me feel better? Tell me a tale of one of your projects and maybe I won't feel so bloody bad. It could be like chicken soup to my whatever. Tomorrow's reviews will be for Guster's latest release, Keep It Together, Dw Dunphy's review of the T3 Soundtrack, and another by Brett Rudolph. Rhino has a pretty impressive coupla albums headed your way featuring The Doors. One of them is a 2CD collection, The Absolute Best of The Doors, while the other set, The Complete Studio Recordings, is a humongous 7CD box that brings together all six of the band's originals into one set with a bonus disc of rarities. The set is remastered with each disc being sleeved in cardboard jackets that replicate the original LP. This 7CD box is a repackaging of the original 7CD brick. The 2CD set, The Absolute Best of The Doors, features remastered songs, 34 in all, from their collection. This set contains a previously unissued "Celebration of the Lizard". Both sets release on August 12. DVD-Audio for August 12 are Frank Sinatra's Sinatra at the Sands. The info states the disc features 2 Advanced Resolution versions, 5.1 Surround 96k/24b and a Stereo 192k/24b, and a Dolby Digital for DVD Players. I'm a little leery of the 192k/24b listing as some of the earlier titles quote this but it never seems to materialize. We'll find out soon enough, I guess. Following along is Chicago V with Saturday in the Park and my favourite, Dialogue I & II. This DVD-A features a bonus with a live rendition of Dialogue recorded from 1972 when Chicago was growing in strength. The Advanced Resolution for this set is 96k/24b for the 5.1 Surround and 96k/24b for the Stereo version including the standard Dolby Digital Surround track. Folks wanting to catch Evanescense can do so on July 8 where they'll appear on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. For SACD news, Columbia is releasing Train's latest, My Private Nation, as a Multichannel SACD on August 12. And I'm hoping for some serious stuff here. I don't know...
It's amazingly silent on the release front but we're going to remedy that with expanded information, a thing that we're working on at this time. We want to be able to include imports, LPs, Indies, etc. It's a bit of a climb but as we get there, you'll get the benefits. If anyone would like to review CD releases for today's music, get in touch with me. Additionally, if there are any independent labels that want to get listed on MusicTAP, email me. That goes for any label.
With July 4 just around the corner, our last post for the week will be on Thursday. But we'll get to that later on. The book from The Digital Bits is nearing completion so be sure to get your copy. Just click on the book icon at the bottom left and check it out. If you were a fan of the Glass/Bowie/Eno collaborations, namely the Low Symphony and Heroes, then there is a new 2CD set that contains both works in one package. I don't have a lot of info but I'm willing to bet they're remastered. The set comes from Philips Classical and will be made available on August 12. We have some reviews for you but will post them tomorrow as we have just gotten too busy to put them together. We do have some good ones, including Led Zeppelin's How The West Was Won and one or two from Brett Rudolph. And it's official now. A&M Records is putting out the Peter Frampton classic, Frampton Comes Alive as a 2CD SACD Hybrid. Now that oughta count for something. Although everyone knew it was coming, you can actually pencil in a date on the calendar now. The date? That's on August 26. Waylon Jennings fans get treated to a 2CD set called The Complete MCA Nashville Recordings. You can expect that to street on October 28. RGL/RCA Nashville will release an Alabama, Farewell Tour disc on October 7. Toni Braxton fans will get The Ultimate Toni Braxton scheduled for November 4. Wyclef Jean releases Preacher's Son on September 9 from J Records with an Alicia Keys disc expected on October 28 also from J Records. Some more interesting news for fans are Avril Lavigne with a new album expected for October 7 and a new one from Pink slated for November 11. Both are scheduled works with no title at the moment. More info as they become available. It's finally coming...The new Strokes album is penciled in for an October 21 release date. That's pretty good news for us Strokes fans. And finally, Arista Records is clearing some shelf space for a new Tears For Fears title expected on October 14. I promise to have some reviews for posting tomorrow. Come back and see us then.
