Welcome back to another weekend. Ain't they grand? I know you folks in Europe have got a headstart so I'm hopin' that you're enjoying it. We hope to have the Hi-Rez wishlist finished for Monday. We actually received an email from a label guy (one of the Big 5) who expressed anticipation in seeing it. We're also going to put together some DVD-Audio reviews for a few blasts from the past that Rhino has put out, 2 Alice Cooper titles and two recently released Chicago titles. We'll also have more reviews from the other writers as well. For today though, we have Duane's popular Pit Stop article. We also have our usual look at what's coming out although updated scheduling is sparse this week. We'll see what we see. Here we go... Chrysalis Records has an upcoming title for Jethro Tull called A New Day Yesterday: 1968-1994. It appears that this will be a 'best of'. We'll get more info in a bit on this one for you as time gets closer to release. Also on September 30, Astralwerks will issue a Chemical Brothers singles retrospective titled, Singles: 93-03. This will be sold as a Limited Edition and a CD only set. Enigma and his next album, Voyageur, will hit stores on September 30. And like The Chemical Brothers, will be issued in a Special Limited Edition as well as the standard CD. Reminding folks, on September 16, Capitol releases Steve Miller's Young Hearts: Complete Greatest Hits. This set will feature 22 remastered songs, all hits. Some of these hits have never seen the light of day on a compilation album until now. Definitive single CD collection for Steve Miller Band fans. On October 14, Barbra Streisand fans will be able to purchase her latest from Columbia Records, a special packaging of The Movie Album. Columbia Records is also issuing a Mariah Carey album, The Remixes, on September 30. BritPop's Travis will have their 12 Memories released on October 14 by Epic Records. Finally, as we close the doors for the weekend, fans of Legacy's Essential Series and of Simon & Garfunkel will get an Essential Simon & Garfunkel (Duh!) title on October 14. More info to follow as we receive it. The Telly
See you Monday!! What the hell?! Nothing much here so we'll just accumulate it for tomorrow's big bang post. We have solved the SoBig Worm issue in our system. What a mess. We have 3 reviews for you today even if we don't have anything else for you. Here they are along with the daily Telly. We'll be back in the AM for some more before we run into the weekend. We'll chat then. The Telly
Whoa!! Has anyone else been inundated with email caused by a rampant worm? Oh man, I know folks like us but to the tune of 450+ emails yesterday alone? That's a mess to get through. Yikes!! Checking in with Universal and their SACD/DVD-A catalog, I'm informed that Def Jam's hi-rez October 7 release of Ludacris's Chicken and Beer will be an SACD Hybrid. Good news for Ludacris fans. Otherwise, from the Universal camp is news of a blink-182 disc arriving in stores from Geffen on November 18. The title is still to be determined and will come in 2 flavours, Parental Advisory and Edited. While not yet announced, don't be surprised to see a Limited Edition issue. Seems to be the cool thing to do. Geffen will also release a Steve Forbert issue, Rock While I Can Rock: The Geffen Recordings. This title consists of every track from Streets in This Town and The American in Me. In addition, this set will include a rare British B-Side, "The Only Normal People". This set is digitally remastered from the original masters and will release on October 28. The label, RoadRunner, will issue a DVD-Audio with their Murderdolls on October 21. The title of the disc will be Beyond The Valley of the Murderdolls. Another RoadRunner title destined for DVD-Audio is 2002's Stone Sour's self-titled, Stone Sour Reminding you that Rounder Records will issue the Rush DVD, Live in Rio, that will come in either a standard amaray casing or jewel case. This 2DVD set will release on October 21. Interscope Records will release Something Corporate's North on October 21. More DVD-Audio news with the upcoming releases of Andrea Bocelli's Arias; Anne-Sophie Mutter's Four Seasons; Diana Krall's When I Look In Your Eyes; and Cecilia Bartoli's The Vivaldi Album. All of these DVD-As street on October 7. October 7 also finds a Primus release, Animals Should Not Try To Act Like People, coming to store shelves as a CD/DVD set. Nelly Furtado's upcoming, Fresh Off The Boat, from Dreamworks will begin life as an album with a bonus DVD. However, this bonus situation is short-lived and represents the initial release only. Future runs will be without the bonus disc. This title ships on November 25. George Benson's next, Six Play, will see the light of day on November 4. The album will release from Verve Records. More holiday stuff! This time Hilary Duff is the artist with the album, Santa Claus Lane, releasing on October 14 from Buena Vista Records. But how's this for Christmas fun? Varese Sarabande will issue The Jethro Tull Christmas Album on September 30.
Fans of Ace ("How Long?") will find a 'best of' set in stores on October 7. The album is titled The Best of Ace (Featuring Paul Carrack). On September 23, MCA will issue BB King's Live by Request DVD featuring Jeff Beck, in both amaray casing and jewel casing. Hello all. I hope that it isn't too hot where you're at. It's been a bear here where the heat is concerned. And I don't sleep that way. At least I don't like sleeping that way. Remember to run out today and pick up your favourite NYoung disc...or all of 'em if you like 'em. Not only am I looking forward to his 4 but I'm anxious to hear Greendale. We'll get reviews up posthaste once when we get 'em. As for reviews, we have a few for you today. As a matter of fact, we have so many that we have to apportion them out over the next few weeks. So lets get started in that direction at least. We have The Kovenant's S.E.T.I. review by John P Dunphy, Dandy Warhols' Welcome to the Monkey House by Dw Dunphy, Marco Passarelli's review of Metallica's St Anger. We also have a review of Mest and their self titled disc, Mest by Scott Watkins. Busy, huh?! We have a string of upcoming music for you beginning with RCA and their just penciled DVD release of a Kelly Clarkson DVD. The title is TBD (To Be Determined). There isn't a set date but at least you know that it's on somebody's mind. V2 Records has a few on the slate. For January 13, '04, they have Crystal Method's upcoming album, Legion of Boom. Additionally, they have a Moby B-Sides collection in the works for November 4. This collection, 18 B Sides, will have a bonus DVD included in the package. For the holidays, Arista is pushing a Whitney Houston Christmas disc, Holiday Album. You can expect this to arrive on October 21. Other Arista output include a new Sarah McLachlan, Fallen. That title will be issued as a Limited Edition w/ Bonus DVD as well as the standard CD release. Fallen is expected on November 4. Also, Pink's upcoming album, title TBD, will hit shelves on November 11 as both a Limited Edition w/ Bonus DVD and a standard CD issue. Columbia has announced a holiday SACD title for Barry Manilow. The album, A Christmas Gift of Love, originally released in 2002, will be an SACD MultiChannel/Stereo disc. This album is expected on September 16. Those are also the dates for the slew of Dylan SACDs. It's plastic time, folks. The before delayed The Essential Dr Hook and The Medicine Show from Legacy is now expected for September 30. September 30 is also the date for Columbia/Legacy's issue of The Essential Toto. On October 7, Columbia will deliver to stores a 'best of' for Wyclef Jean. The album, Wyclef Jean: Greatest Hits, will be issued the same date as his upcoming Preacher's Son from J Records. We'll stop for here for today. We'll be back tomorrow. The Telly
Well...the requests are STILL being tallied for hi rez wishes. Once I started putting this list together I realized what a job I had on my hands. Many of you wrote multiple wishes. But we're tallying them and prepping them for a useable and readable style. Continuing... We trust that you had a great weekend. It sure was nice here in good ole Southern California although a bit on the hot side, not my favourite temps. I'm a cold weather person. We have a few reviews for tomorrow, one by a new staffer. With that, let me introduce to you John P Dunphy. That's right, folks. He is the brother of Dw Dunphy. He'll be writing reviews and other things with his specialty in the metal market, particularly independent metal BUT that shouldn't limit him. He joins Duane, Brett, DDubya, Grey, Marco, Dan, Greg, and myself so enjoy the output. We'll also have a time to time review from Joe Poropatich with help from Noelle. They'll provide an exploratory look at the pop market. They have a review of Michelle Branch's Hotel Paper in the wings and are presently listening to Jewel's latest. Tomorrow, expect reviews from John with his take on Kovenant's S.E.T.I.; Marco's review of Metallica's St Anger, and Scott Watkins' review of Mest with their self titled release from Maverick Records. And we have a helluva lot of reviews in the stash from myself, Brett, John, Scott, Dw (Dandy Warhols) and more. In addition, we also have some info for you, release style. So let's get into that... Tomorrow is Neil Young Day in musicland. Everyone that has waited an eternity for these four discs will be rewarded with what I'm told spectacular sounding discs. And we'll get DVD-Audio of those titles on October 14. So...stuff to wait for. We've talked about the upcoming Television reissues coming from Rhino. We have a bit more info on those discs expected on September 23. Marquee Moon will contain the original album remastered of course along with five bonus cuts. Those cuts will alternates of "See No Evil", "Friction", "Marquee Moon", and an untitled instrumental. Also included is "Little Johnny Jewel (Pt 1 & 2)" for the first time in its entirety. For the second disc, Adventure, there will be 3 bonus songs, "Adventure", "Ain't That Nothin'" (Single Version), and "Glory" (Early Version). A special surprise will be a hidden bonus song, a run-through of "Ain't That Nothin'". These albums will be contained in deluxe digipak. Even better, the band is expected to do a string of Fall dates. Use the Pollstar utility at the bottom of this page to find them in your area. As an aside, Rhino will be releasing a 70s Punk Box Set not too much later and Television will have songs on it. Anxious? September 23 is also the date for the CD/DVD-Audio of The Flaming Lips' excellent, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots. It's an interesting hybrid all its own. It will contain the CD version and the entire album again in DVD-Audio 5.1 Surround. There are special audio bonuses as well as video features. Makes for a great package. With that we'll give it up for another day. But we'll be back tomorrow with more more more... | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
