Before I go a step further, I'm alerting you folks to the fact that today's post will represent the end of the week for us at MusicTAP. We'll be out tomorrow and will be unable to update you. But we'll be back on Monday. Soo.... We have a brilliant post today with some cool titles coming available at a store near you. Let's start with this bit 'o info from Sanctuary Records. But first let me report (again) that Foghat's Decades Live is an album without a date. We'll just have to keep watching to be sure to alert everyone for when this hits the calendars again...again. The other bad news is the expected Sammy Hagar 2DVD of The Long Road to Cabo which has just been deep sixed. Hopefully it will reappear down the road. Otherwise, Sanctuary has a reissue of Anthrax's Volume 8 - The Threat is Real. This release provides some extras not found on the original - and quite collectible disc, if you can find one - The first is an unreleased track, "Giving The Horns", and is accompanied by three cover tunes. Radiohead's "The Bends" and DRI's "I'd Rather Be Sleeping" and "Snaps" are the covers. The album will also contain a video of a live performance of the band's popular "Inside Out". I'm throwing in here an extra bonus in the cover shot. This album comes out on September 23.
On October 7, Sanctuary hits the shelves with a 2CD Anthology for The Guess Who. This set will be considered a definitive collection with 38 available songs, 13 of them Top 40. I've seen this set's tracklisting and...well...it's good. All the songs you remember and more. For the die hard Beatles fans, Sanctuary has 4 sets coming out. These sets are 3CDs each and will contain a spoken word biography of each of our beloved boys, John, Paul, George, and Ringo. These sets are written by Alan Clayson and read by Mike Read. These AudioBooks will release on September 30.
October 7 brings a Sanctuary release of an INXS DVD title, Live Baby Live. This set will feature the band at their height from a 1991 show. This set will feature 5.1 and Stereo mixes, band interviews, backstage footage, "Talk Baby Talk" EPK, Photo Gallery, Commentary Audio option and a wealth of songs with 21 tunes. In addition to the INXS DVD, Sanctuary will also release a Jane's Addiction documentary DVD, Three Days. Three Days will contain the documentary of their 1997 tour and will reveal truths concerning the tour and the band. It streets September 23. Want more DVDs? How about a Bob Marley and The Wailers one. The Sanctuary release expected on October 7, The Legend Live, will contain a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix and a Stereo mix as well as a 54 minute documentary. Meat Loaf is back with a new disc in the vein of Bat Out of Hell and Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell. Sanctuary Records has his newest, Couldn't Have Said It Better, arriving on September 23. It's filled with 11 new songs and bonus videos for "Couldn't Have Said It Better" and "Did I Say That?" Watch for it.
Motorhead arrives with a 5CD Box issue called Stone Deaf Forever! This set covers the career of Motorhead with a comprehensive look at their entire career beginning from 1975 extending through 2002. The set was put together with the complete cooperation of Lemmy and the boys and includes a 60 page booklet, a tour poster, a button, 99 songs with 19 of them previously unreleased. Now that's a set. And it comes out on October 7. For those that care, Sanctuary Records is reissuing (remember that spat?) Kelly Osbourne's debut, Shut Up, on September 23. And it will contain bonuses. The bonuses are 4 live tracks as well as the duet with daddy, "Changes". Arista's expected upcoming latest from Tears for Fears has been bumped to 'whenever land'. Whenever it's ready. Sanctuary adds another Undertones title to their batch, this time a new title. Get What You Need is their first in many years. Unfortunately, this Irish group is without Fergal Sharkey but hope to score it again regardless.
Now here's an exciting issue coming in DVD for Paul Weller. This DVD is Live at Braehead and is a very nicely done set with mixes for DTS, Dolby Digital 5.1, and Stereo. The big bonus here is that its presented in 16:9 anamorphic. This 30 song, 2 hour plus disc will explore non-acoustic songs from The Jam, including "Town Called Malice"; songs from Style Council, and from his solo material. Watch for this on September 30. RCA is readying a Bruce Hornsby 'best of' called Greatest Radio Hits and will be his first hits collection. The set will contain 15 songs, 3 of them unreleased tunes (2 live and one original). Expect this one on October 7. We'll be back on Monday with a full post. More releases. Reviews. Fun. We also have a new staff writer that we'll introduce to you on Monday. See you then. Ohh...and have a fine weekend. If we filled this column pretty good yesterday, we won't be able to today. But I'm sure that tomorrow will bring another good sized post for your reading pleasure. We might even throw in a review or two for you. There are a few more hi rez discs officially placed on the calendar from Universal. The discs are:
Shout! Factory has a Harold Budd disc on tap for October 7, so pencil that one in if you are a fan of Harold Budd or ambience/neo classical. Don't know Harold Budd? Think Eno. The Roxy Music Avalon release is rapidly being reported as an SACD. I haven't acquired confirmation of this but have no reason to not pay any attention to the fans who are aware of this. And I've heard from folks of the Euro release that it absolutely is unbelievable. We cannot wait. That's all for today. I apologize for the shortness. We'll attempt to make it up tomorrow. We'll see you then. I've been updated myself by the Bowie clan as well as several readers who have sharp eyes. My roving reporters, so to speak. In any case, the news is excellent. The three Bowie titles I've mentioned being released will be,in fact, SACD issues. The scoop is this - The first two titles, Scary Monsters and Lets Dance will be Stereo Hybrid SACD while Ziggy Stardust will get the 5.1 MultiChannel treatment. For Scary Monsters and Lets Dance, The hybrid will feature a 2003 remaster on the DSD layer and the 1999 remaster on the PCM layer. The remasters for Ziggy Stardust's 5.1 SACD will be the 2002 remaster for both layers. In addition, there will be an updated Sound + Vision box with an additional disc. This will effectively update the material through 1993. In the future, there will be additional releases such as Black Tie/White Noise expansions. More as details come in. Well, I've blown the deadline for the Dandy Warhols review imposed by myself. But we'll get it to you, don't worry. We do have a review from Dw Dunphy today, however. It's from Ten Benson and the album is Benson Burner. We have a batch of discs coming from Wounded Bird. The titles will get some of you excited. For September 2, you can expect the following reissues:
For October 14, from Wounded Bird are the following titles:
RCA is releasing a Dave Matthews Band album on November 4. They are also releasing a DVD on December 2. They will also release the title TBD in what looks to be DVD-Audio but I'm trying to make sure this is the case. That will release simultaneously with the CD album. The Foo Fighters may follow suit with a TBD. While this paragraph has some definites in it, some of it is unconfirmed (DVD-Audio). I'll find out. R Kelly's Parental Advisory of R. in R&B Collection, Volume One has been cancelled for whatever reason. Perhaps PR? Regardless, the 2CD regular set is still a go for September 23. Alicia Keys' upcoming album, title TBD, is newly scheduled for November 18 with a DVD expected just a bit earlier on November 4. J Records has an Annie Lennox DVD expected for November 4, title TBD. This same date has a Rod Stewart DVD scheduled as well. Well, we ended up not so abbreviated after all, eh? See you tomorrow. Hello again, friends. This year has sure advanced, no doubt about it. But the pickins' have been pretty good. There's just so much music out there, it just feels like a trickle. I'd love to spotlite the independent labels that reissue older material. And I'd love to announce great independent music, like Spock's Beard. So...if you're a label that fits this criteria, contact me. We'll announce your releases and keep you in the public eye. It's what we do. We've a few reviews for you today. Bet you were wondering. Yep, a few of us got off our duffs and..well, you got reviews. We have a Brett Rudolph review of Willem Jeths' Bella Figura, an SACD from Northwest Classics. We also have a listen to Android Lust, The Dividing. We also have a review of Victory Records' upcoming Glasseater title, Everything is Beautiful When You Don't Look Down. This review comes from Scott Watkins. This disc is expected for release on August 26. Tomorrow, we'll have one from DwDunphy, an independent spinner from Ten Benson, Benson Burner. We'll also add a review of The Dandy Warhols' newest, Welcome to the Monkey House. We have more definites in the wings to be sure. We are preparing a listing of all the wishes concerning hi-rez discs. It will be an interesting one. I've been alerted to a great website that provides a very comprehensive listing of bands that are airing on the telly. I'll continue to provide a nudge but if you want the entire day at a glance, this is the place to get it from. I've lost the email of the individual who alerted me and thus cannot give credit where it's due. But thanks to you. I've received a ton of email from our Euro and Aussie friends who have been lucky enough to acquire the NYoung disc releases already!! And they all tell me that they're nothing short of spectacular sound. All I have to say is ...we got next!! Thanks to Townshend's EelPie for alerting us to his upcoming Pete Townshend Live: BAM 1993. This release will only be available on the internet at EelPie. This release becomes available today. We've talked not too far back about the release of more King Biscuit Flower Hour concert series CDs. There are some date changes for this particular batch, Blackfoot, Iggy Pop, Renaissance Pt 2, and Pat Travers. The new date is September 16. If you like these discs as much as we do here at MusicTAP, you'll have them on your calendar. Capitol is set to release the following titles on September 30: a DVD from Snoop Dogg and a CD/DVD from Pat Benatar. Virgin has three David Bowie titles on the horizon for October 7. Some of these titles will thrill you, some will perplex you. Of course, I have no info other than they are on the calendar so hold the emails until I get clearer info. The titles are:
And, if you're a Culture Club fan, there are three titles being reissued, also for October 7:
Those titles are joined by some more excellent titles for the same date. You can expect a Box set by Glen Campbell; a collection by Nat King Cole, Nat King Cole: The Singles Collection. Sharing that date is a reissue for Roxy Music with their popular Avalon. October 7 sees the issue of a 'best of' for Dion, Dion's Greatest Hits. Van Morrison's anticipated release, What's Wrong With This Picture is bumped to October 24. The interesting list here is for Coldplay which has a title TBD on November 4. This will probably be a DVD but there is, right now, no other info on this listing. But here's a bit more to whet your interest even further. Again, I just have a schedule listing but on November 18, Capitol has a Beatles title (get this - TBD). More info to follow as it becomes available. Capitol also has a Bob Segar 'best of', Greatest Hits, Volume 2 which is pencilled in for a November 18 release. Sarah Brightman's moved around DVD, Harem, is now scheduled for January 13, 2004. Added to that date will also be a 'best of' for Bobby Darin, The Legendary Bobby Darin. We're jumping pretty far ahead here so remember, the likelihood of these dates changing or the title falling into oblivion is ultra high. Planned for January 27, 2004 is the newest from Starsailor, Silence is Easy plus an Anthology for Tavares. Pushing out a little further are a stack of titles for Al Green, Full of Fire; Al Green Explores Your Mind; Call Me; and Al Green is Love. These projected Al Green titles are expected to street on May 4, 2004. Wow...we dug a little...well, we dug a lot. But you deserve it and so there you have the Monday post with some reviews thrown on top. The posts will be very sparse the rest of this week as we have some things that need to be attended to. But we won't desert you. Enjoy and we'll see you back here tomorrow. Copyright © 2002 - 2003 Matthew Rowe. All rights reserved. Site is designed for 1024x768 resolution. 212 Frech |
