| May 13 2002 New release info for the week of May 28th is now available. It sure is sparse: Blues Folk Jazz Latin Rap Rock World We are doing some rethinks on the site, making it a better, more interesting site, dispensing with the trivialities that we have picked up along the way. Reviews will still be posted and "In The Pipe" will still exist. We'll still give the scoop on upcoming tours, etc. We'll even give a bit of news info if its interesting...and little of it is. For now, we will still give some news content. Talk to you soon. Peter Wolf will be hosting an hour long documentary on the late, and great, promoter, Bill Graham. The show is being broadcast by A&E and will air July 15th. This should be quite an interesting look at a legendary trailblazer. Makes for compelling material. It should probably be made into a DVD with additional materials. Anybody got that kinda pull? Expansion, its what its all about. The show will include interviews with many of the people that worked alongside, or was helped by Graham, bands like Jefferson Airplane, Carlos Santana and Allman Brothers.....Be on the watch for an unauthorized KISS DVd based on a Las Vegas performance. This is a bogus DVD and has been discredited by Gene Simmons. It apparently contains only four songs that were destined for an internet broadcast. You've been warned......The Pretenders are the confirmed first night opener for the Stones in Boston.....Tom Hamilton of Aerosmith lost his home due to a fire. The Cape Cod home was totally destroyed. Interestingly, another fire occurred nearly a mile away and was also destroyed.....And what's up with our Dionne Warwick getting busted with some grass? C'mon Dionne, easy now,..easy!!.....I think I might have heard a new single by ColdPlay today. It was a good song but doesn't have the genuine pop of "Yellow". And while the song was good, it disappointed...but maybe it wasn't ColdPlay after all. ; )..... Sanctuary Records will release a new Henry Rollins Band live set spread across 2 CDs on June 25th. The set will feature 28 songs , all recorded at Chicago's Metro on March 1-2....and if you're a Neil Finn/Crowded House or even Split Enz fan then you'll be pleased to know that Finn will be on a brief tour from the period July 2 - July 20 beginning in San Diego and ending in Boston. The tour is in support of Finn's newest, "One All" released by Nettwerk Records....U.S. fans of Tool will be happy to know that they intend to tour after their stint with OzzFest. ....EMI bought the label, Mute, home to Moby and Depeche Mode, for a few bucks. And I thought they were trying to right themselves after axing a lot of talent.....Mudvayne is expected to hit the studio this July with hopes to have saleable product by late this year ot the beginning of next year. David Bottrill expected to produce....Ozzy is going to have a cameo in the new Austin Powers film, Goldmember. See what fame/popularity gets ya?.....Fans of Rush will be pleased to know that they intend to forgo the traditional opening act and do the entire show with just themselves. They have plans to do a full three hour set. Get ready. Til tomorrow..... May 14 2002 Just when I think I'm caught up. I posted release data for May 28th yesterday and the release data for June 4th is now available. Here you go, CD fans: Blues Country Folk Jazz Latin Rap Rock World I've noticed on MSNBC.com that Napster's CEO has announced that he will resign. This brings up the question if Napster is finished in the market place. Napster ran a file sharing sofware firm that was wildly popular and extremely controversial. Napster had fans and detractors that stated that Napster was effectual. Whether that was effectual in providing music or in killing the music industry was a hotly debated subject. In discussion, friends and myself tossed the entire subject around countless times as to what the real effects were. I'm sure that many of you have as well. Developing......Is anyone else absolutely sick of hearing the new Eminem song, "Without Me"? It is the most egocentric song that I have heard and just kills me when it begins to play on radio. It starts out with a attempt to snare you via the familiar sounding intro like "Real Slim Shady", which I loved. It then goes on to say how music would be boring if he was not involved. He has heard this complaint voiced already, I'm sure, because he has made a comment stating that the song is unlike the rest of the album. Did anyone see him performing on SNL? It looked like he was reading the lyrics off of cues. A largely uninspired performance. No thanks, I'll pass......And here we go again. Aaliyah's parents are suing Virgin Records stating that they were negligent in the plane crashing. Like I was negligent when the last Aerosmith album didn't sell as well as expected or that I could have prevented the last ten deaths in the USA.....I have heard that Weezer's new album, "Maladroit"has a video on the first 600,000 copies. May 15 2002 I will be gone on a small weekend getaway beginning Friday and going through Sunday. There will be no post until Monday. Just to let you know......Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are scheduling a set of shows for the summer that will take place in outside venues beginning June 27th in Grand Rapids, MI. continuing through until the end of July. They will begin an autumn tour that will support their new CD which will be released in October.....There is a campaign going in New Jersey to get The Boss "Springsteen" on the ballot for the US Senate.....U2 have debuted a new song, "Hands that Built America" for a crowd of 15000. The song is destined for Scorsese's "Gangs of New York".....And speaking of Bruce Springsteen. The word is out...Bruce is releasing a new CD and the preview for the lucky few have said that the songs are .."nothing short of amazing..." The disc is expected to arrive this summer. No set date as of yet. But you can bet I'll keep you posted..... OK, off to see the midnight showing of the new Star Wars at our Spectrum 21 theatre. It is a digital presentation and I'm looking forward to it. Talk to you soon. |
