| Waylon Jennings Laid to Rest [06:58p PST February 15, 2002] AP reports that a private graveside service was held attended by family in Mesa, AZ. Mr Jennings widow, Jessi Colter, promises a public service in Nashville. -AP Guenter Wand Dies [07:04p PST February 15, 2002] Famed German conductor, Guenter Wand, dies at the age of 90. Story here. -AP Blade II Soundtrack Near Completion [07:09p PST February 15, 2002] Blade I was a great movie and I see the same for Blade II. Standout was the great soundtrack for Blade I. Blade II soundtrack is being finalized and will be available March 19th. Film releases March 29th. "Oooohhh, I'm exited." Track listing here. -Rolling Stone Iron Maiden's "Eddie" Big Seller As Toy [07:20p PST February 15, 2002] McFarlane's Spawn Toys has a hit on its hands with Eddie, the mascot of heavy metal band, Iron Maiden. I've seen this and it is cool. A collector myself, I think McFarlane's Barker set, Tortured Souls, rocks. As an aside for Maiden fans, they are in the studio Sept hoping for a completed album of material for 2003 along with a summer tour to support. Adrian, congratulations and best wishes. Story here. -Launch Mick Tucker of Sweet Dies [07:41p PST February 15, 2002] Mick Tucker, drummer for Sweet, died in London, Thursday of leukemia. Tucker was 54. Sweet was known for their hits, "Little Willy", "Ballroom Blitz" and "Fox on the Run". Sweet's Brian Connelly, died in 1997. - AP Ozzy Recording Live CD and DVD [08:18p PST February 15, 2002] Ozzy Osbourne, on tour in Japan, will record the show tonight in Budokan, for an eventual release as a live CD and DVD. According to Ozzy's publicist, the Live CD will include performances of B-sides from imported releases. Great news for fans. -SonicNet Stabbing Westward Disbands [03:52p PST February 14, 2002] Industrial band Stabbing Westward puts an end to a career spanning 10 years and 4 albums. The information, found on their web site, calls the split,a "time to part". You can read the words as scribed by the band at their site. Gibson Awards Noms [04:04p PST February 14, 2002] In Los Angeles, February 26th at The Knitting Factory, the winners of the Gibson Awards will be announced. Garth Brooks Invited to Join Colorado Rockies [4:10p PST February 14, 2002] Garth Brooks was offered to attend spring training for the Colorado Rockies but declined citing family commitments. Brooks has, in the past, attended Padres and Mets training in an effort to provide money for his "Touch 'Em All" Charity. Maybe if the White Sox had asked....?! Copy Protected CDs [08:47p PST February 13, 2002] An article by Gwendolyn Mariano, staff writer for C/Net's News.com talks about the arrival of copy protection of CDs via technology created by an Israeli company called Midbar. The protection scheme, called Cactus Data Shield, supposedly prevents people from copying music without lessening the quality of the recorded material. Interesting article. Waylon Jennings Dead at 64 [08:53p PST February 13, 2002] Country great, Waylon Jennings, lost his long and arduous battle with diabetes today at the age of 64. Best known for his work as one of the Highwaymen and a long and noted solo career. He was married to Jessie Colter, known for her "I'm Not Lisa." He will be missed by all. Read more here. Adams to Create 09/11 Piece [09:01p PST February 13, 2002] John Adams, the great minimalist composer, responsible for the opera, Nixon in China, will compose a choral piece remembering the victims of the Sept 11th attack. The 25 minute piece will debut Sept 19th with the New York Philharmonic, Maazel conducting. Fuel tells Toyota to Stop [09:28p PST February 13, 2002] To avoid confusion, Fuel has asked Toyota to cease from using their name in relation to an ad in a magazine. I worked more than 12 hours over the last 48 to create some extra pages and to work the bugs out. When these things are finished, I will only need to concentrate on the updates. Results of Pollstar's Annual Awards [08:45p PST February 11, 2002] PollStar's annual Concert Industry Awards held Saturday, February 9th at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, CA and has posted the winners. Juno Awards Winners [08:52p PST February 11, 2002] The Juno Awards, Canada's top music award similar to US's Grammy has released the list of nominees. The awards ceremonies to be held April 14th, 2002. The big nom takers, Leonard Cohen, Nickleback and Our Lady Peace. I'm particularly excited by Leonard Cohen garnering 4 noms. The Who Plan Tour [01:58p PST February 10, 2002] The Who begin their US trek on June 28th in Las Vegas (Tix on sale 2/17) and ends August 31 in Wantagh, NY. Springsteen Recording Update [02:11p PST February 10, 2002] It appears that Bruce "The Boss" Springsteen is definitely recording new material but still no word if that includes the E Street Band. It's evident that Lofgren is part of the deal since he let the cat out of the bag (some secret). Given the popularity of the Springsteen show in NY, I'd say that a new CD after 18 years would be real cool. Sued for Poor Seats [02:58p PST February 10, 2002] A Launch report states that a woman, Dana Gross, is suing Madison Square Garden and Ticketmaster over being issued tickets for poor seats, being seated behind an obstruction which prevented a good view of the Michael Jackson show. She is suing for 20 million. Now, what I wanna know is how far back does the statute of limitations run for this sort of thing?! I sat in a lot of bad seats. |
