| April 29 2002 Notables There are a few pieces of news to report on today. I'll get to them, but first I have to say...Wishbone Ash has done, with their new release, what I wasn't sure could be done and that is to create a CD that has the beating heart of WBA in every track. Good goin', there guys. Scott Staph of Creed was injured in an automobile crash serious enough to cancel their upcoming tour....Sept 1 will have Bob Dylan playing the Aspen Jazz Festival. This oughta be good for those lucky enough to be able to attend this event. Send me word on how it was.....Lisa Lopes of TLC will be buried Thursday, 11a EST, in Atlanta. If you would, say a small one for her on that date and time.....And finally, for a slow news day, word comes from Canada, Vancouver, BC to be exact, from TAP reader, Mark. I'm told that Bruce Cockburn is headlining the Vancouver Island MusicFest. I was unable to catch his show here in OC/LA so I'm extremely jealous. Enjoy his show, Island dwellers. I have a very difficult time taking his 'anything anytime anywhere' Greatest Hits package out of the player. It's just so damn good. Not a bad track on that whole disc.....Max Headroom is making a comeback of sorts. The 80s icon will have all 14 of his episodes rebroadcast on TechTV beginning this Friday. TV is getting to be so much fun.....now back to my WBA disc. Ramblings There are great things that happen and then there are GREAT things that happen. Wanna know something that is greater than the GREAT? Getting the new Wishbone Ash CD 'BonaFide' (which I'm gonna review right quick) via post with an added bonus of a completely autographed copy. I'm in WBA heaven. Andy and the boys...thanx immeasureably. I can die now. I'll be back later with the daily post (apologies to the East Side (East Coast) folks but this tardiness cannot be avoided. Til later on. Back with the closing thought, which is, you people are the best. You have warmed my heart with your letters and I just wanted you all to know, you're special. Final note. Thanks to Rick Chapman of www.musicartscine.net for stopping by and saying such nice things about the site. I want to note that Rick runs quite an interesting site himself. Informative, incredibly laid out, and just plain fun. I actually identify with Rick and his musical tastes quite a bit. In any case, here is the link to his site. I'll be adding a permanent link to it over the next few weeks....mar April 30 2002 Ramblings Hello folks. Is this year progressing or what? It's unreal that it is May tomorrow. Well....I visited the Foghat web site's new BBS Forum and read a lot of interesting posts. Primary among them was a request for a Foghat Boxed Set and, you know, I gotta ask why there ain't one. I know that Foghat revenues should be there as there are plenty of fans to buy one. I've invited the fans to 'create' an imaginary boxed set with track listings, etc. for those who like to think what such a set should contain. I know that Rhino holds licensing rights and could/should release this set although WB/Bearsville should actually do it. I also think that Foghat themselves should be involved in the remix (a must) and selection. We all know that they must possess/have access to tons of unreleased material and outtakes, rare club recordings, gems such as the combo Wishbone Ash/Foghat hybrid known as 'Kneetremblors', and on to infinity with the selections available. This is easily a 4 CD set. So...please??...Oh, and while on the subject of Foghat, I found that my earlier review of 'Road Cases' has somehow, mysteriously, become truncated. In short, most of the review got sucked into a black hole. I'll have to reconstruct it. It shall be done. Also, I have the new Wishbone Ash CD, "Bona Fide" that I will be giving away. I just have to think of a contest to make it fun and interesting. Any ideas, fans? Notables Now, in the 'Don't that beat all' category, the Orlando Police is reporting that the crash in which Creed's Scott Staph was involved and that facilitated the cancellation of Creed's tour, did NOT involve any injuries. I'll leave you to speculate on that one.....2 home tape recordings by John Lennon sold for US $195000 today at an auction. The content of the tapes had Lennon improvising songs and telling stories to his step daughter.....Congratulations to Dick Clark and his 50 year anniversary of American Bandstand. You can bet I watched it lots as a kid. The tribute show airs Friday, 05/03 at 8p on ABC.....Briefly, TLC has opted to not replace Lopes in their lineup....Paul McCartney is taping his present tour for release as a concert DVD....Jethro Tull fans can buy the band's latest release, a 2-CD live greatest hits package with unusual cargo, namely DVD footage. Recorded over the last few years and culled from those live dates, the set features the original 1968 lineup of the band.....The upcoming Rush CD, 'Vapor Trails' is certified keyboard free.....Be on the watch for a planned CD of new material from Steely Dan. New Release data for May 21st is available: Blues Country Folk Jazz Latin Rap Rock World Notables from May 14th releases are Laurie Anderson's 'Live at Town Hall NYC' , Tommy Lee's 'Never a Dull Moment' , 4 Specials reissues, Pete Townshend's 'Scoop', Rush's 'Vapor Trails' and Rhino's expanded reissues of X and 'Ain't Love Grand', 'See How We Are' and 'More Fun in the New World'. All this and a great set of Jazz, Folk and Blues. |
