Cream and Rod Stewart Titles Arrive On Vinyl in June

On June 23, there will be a series of releases on vinyl LP that vinyl fans will want to take note of.

Watch for Mercury Records to re-release five Rod Stewart titles on LP. They will include: An Old Raincoat Will Never Let You Down (1969), Gasoline Alley (1970), Every Picture Tells A Story (1971), Never A Dull Moment (1972), and Smiler (1974). For me, these represent the golden years of Rod Stewart.

Rod Stwart Every Picture Tells A Story

In addition to Rod Stewart titles coming to vinyl, there will also be the entire Cream library making its re-entry via Polydor Records, into LP. Those titles include: Fresh Cream (1966), Disraeli Gears (1967), Wheels Of Fire (1968), Goodbye (1969), Live Cream (1970), and Live Cream – Volume II (1972).

Rickie Lee Jones To Release New Album, The Other Side Of Desire, In June

When Rickie Lee Jones The Other Side Of Desire Rickie Lee Jones released her first album, the self-titled Warner release with the cool cover, she immediately gained a following. With her first single, “Chuck E’s In Love”, faring well on Top 40 charts everywhere (at a time when such daring crossovers were common), Rickie Lee Jones was a bohemian gem that we all waited for with every album release. And rarely did she disappoint. Her short affair with Tom Waits bolstered the hipster factor incredibly (as if she needed it).

Following that debut, she released over ten great albums including the debut follow-up, Pirates (1981), and her later years epic, The Sermon On Exposition Boulevard (also released on an SACD Deluxe Edition) from 2007. In addition to those, there were a few Live sets, an EP, and other collectibles for the fan.

On June 23, this cool lady will release The Other Side Of Desire. It’s planned for CD (for now).

Just thought you’d like to know!

New Richard Thompson Album, Still, Set For June

Richard Thompson StillAs a solo performer, Richard Thompson has over 20 studio albums, a few live sets, and a collection of collaborative albums with his one-time wife, Linda Thompson, including the extraordinary Shoot Out The Lights from 1982, in release. On June 23, Richard Thompson will add to his collection with a new album, Still. Still will be issued via Fantasy Records, and will be offered as a standard CD, 2CD Deluxe Edition CD, DD, Deluxe Edition DD, and LP. The new album will deliver all new Richard Thompson songs, seventeen for the Deluxe Edition. See track-list below:

Esoteric Records To Reissue Procol Harum Debut In June

Procol Harum Procol HarumSometimes, in all of our running around, we simply overlook the obvious things that literally stare us in our faces. For me, it was my recent post of the Esoteric reissue of Shine On Brightly. In that post, I forget (even though I knew) that the first Procol Harum album was also planned for reissue as a remastered and expanded set. So here I am to rectify that mistake.

On June 29, the UK market (Esoteric Records) will reissue the 1968 classic debut of Procol Harem with a remastered edition that will include four bonus tracks (“A Whiter Shade Of Pale”, “Lime Street Blues”, “Homburg”, “Good Captain Clack (Single Edit)”). In addition, this new Edition will offer restored artwork, and a new set of line notes and an essay.

I have made amends!

Black Mountain Celebrate 10th Anniversary Of Debut With Deluxe Edition In June

Black Mountain Black Mountain 10th Anniversary Deluxe EditionBlack Mountain, a Vancouver, BC band with a brilliant retro sound not unlike the heavy rock of the late ’60s, early ’70s, formed back in 2004. Formed with Stephen McBean, the excellent vocals of Amber Webber, and admirably rounded out by Matt Camarind, Jeremy Schmidt, and Joshua Wells, Black Mountain gave us an updated stoner rock sound that satisfied the music lover in a lot of us. (In the off times, Stephen McBean records with Pink Mountaintops, while Amber Webber and Joshua Wells create with Lightning Dust.) Their first album was the excellent self-titled Black Mountain album. Before it, the band offered up Druganaut, an EP of four tracks that featured an extended version of the title track, “Druganaut”, a modified version of which is found on the first full-length album.

Since the release of that first album, Black Mountain has gained a sizable fanbase. Their debut was followed up by the even more memorable, In The Future, in 2008, and book-ended by their equally memorable Wilderness Heart, issued in 2010. With 2015 well under way, I’d say that we’re anxiously awaiting a new Black Mountain album. However…

In our wait, it has been announced that their label, Jagjaguwar Records, will reissue the Black Mountain debut as a 10th Anniversary Deluxe Edition. Planned for June 23, this 10th Anniversary Deluxe Edition will come lavishly expanded with eight bonus tracks from the original sessions. That efficiently reels me in!

Planned is the inclusion of the Druganaut EP with three of its original tracks, a UK Radio Edit of “No Satisfaction”, and four previously unreleased tunes that include “Behind The Fall”, “It Wasn’t Arson”, and two demo tracks, “Set Us Free”, and “Black Mountain” (see complete track list below).

In its release, Black Mountain – 10th Anniversary Deluxe Edition will be issued on 2CD, DD, and a Limited Edition 2LP set with standard black vinyl, and a limited edition grey vinyl. The gatefold jacket of the 2LP will contain foil printing, as will the 2CD set.

Spanish Version of Eat ‘Em And Smile by David Lee Roth (Sonrisa Salveje) Reissued In June

David Lee Roth Sonrisa SalvejeDavid Lee Roth, widely known as one of the more crazier examples of excess in the Rock and Roll lifestyle, was larger than life. During his years with the emerging Van Halen, he elevated the position of frontman to a much higher level. With an overwhelming sense of swagger and more bravado than needed, Diamond Dave soon became a kind of textbook example for the hair bands of the ’80s. After his departure from Van Halen, he enjoyed a short-lived solo career, maybe as popular as the time with Van Halen. That started with the release of his 4-song EP, Crazy From The Heat, where he launched two big hits, “California Girls”, and “Just A Gigolo/Ain’t Got Nobody”. From there, he released two best-selling platinum albums, Eat ‘Em And Smile (1986), and Skyscraper (1988). He released A Little Ain’t Enough in 1991 to lesser success. Since, there has been three other albums.

On June 23, Friday Music will revisit a rarity, the long out of print Spanish version of Eat ‘Em And Smile, titled Sonrisa Salvaje. In this album, David Lee Roth re-recorded the vocals in Spanish in the hopes that the prime Spanish market would be ecstatic.  Sonrisa Salvaje will be reissued in a newly remastered set by house favorite, Joe Reagoso. The Edition will be limited so if you’re wanting one, be ready to buy.

The album’s original artwork will be included. There will not be any extra tracks outside the album’s original ten songs.

Also to be expected will be a CD issue of A Little Ain’t Enough. It is scheduled to reissue on the same date as Sonrisa Salveje. It, too, will feature brand new remastering (Joe Reagoso), and will issue as a Limited Edition set.

[UPDATE] New Graham Parker & The Rumour Album, Mystery Glue, Planned For May

Graham Parker Mystery GlueWe don’t always see new music from Graham Parker with his most successful affiliation, The Rumour. But, when I see those two names joined together, I get excited, despite their musical admonition not to.

On May 18 (UK), May 19 (US), Graham Parker & The Rumour will be releasing a brand new album, Mystery Glue. What’s extra special about Mystery Glue is the fact that it is musically powered by the original bandmates of The Rumour, who includes Brinsley Schwarz, Bob Andrews, Martin Belmont, Stephen Goulding, and Andrew Bodnar. Their last together, Three Chords Good, which was released in 2012, was an excellent add to the catalog. The timeless magic is still there.

Mystery Glue will contain twelve songs (track-list below).

Mystery Glue will be released via Universal on CD, and vinyl LP. The first 100 to pre-order either the CD or the LP via web-site, will be treated to a signed copy. Additionally, a pre-order will enter you into a contest that could award five fans (you?) with an exclusive acoustic performance by Graham Parker.
